Larval densities ofProdiamesa olivacea were examined in the Laan stream for one year and matched against stream discharge and coarse organic detritus (COD) content of the sediments. The sediment grain size partitioning for the 12 monthly sampling dates was also assessed. The substrate was mainly composed of fine sand (high discharge periods) or silt (low discharge periods) and a never absent COD component which fluctuated seasonally within a narrow range. The discharge fluctuations showed some negative impact on densities of early instarP. olivacea. The absolute and relative densities ofP. olivacea were high throughout most of the study period and showed emergence periods in April–May and September–October.  相似文献

Broad genome‐wide testing is increasingly finding its way to the public through the online direct‐to‐consumer marketing of so‐called personal genome tests. Personal genome tests estimate genetic susceptibilities to multiple diseases and other phenotypic traits simultaneously. Providers commonly make use of Terms of Service agreements rather than informed consent procedures. However, to protect consumers from the potential physical, psychological and social harms associated with personal genome testing and to promote autonomous decision‐making with regard to the testing offer, we argue that current practices of information provision are insufficient and that there is a place – and a need – for informed consent in personal genome testing, also when it is offered commercially. The increasing quantity, complexity and diversity of most testing offers, however, pose challenges for information provision and informed consent. Both specific and generic models for informed consent fail to meet its moral aims when applied to personal genome testing. Consumers should be enabled to know the limitations, risks and implications of personal genome testing and should be given control over the genetic information they do or do not wish to obtain. We present the outline of a new model for informed consent which can meet both the norm of providing sufficient information and the norm of providing understandable information. The model can be used for personal genome testing, but will also be applicable to other, future forms of broad genetic testing or screening in commercial and clinical settings.  相似文献

Somatostatin and the interdigestive migrating motor complex in man   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The relationship between somatostatin and the interdigestive migrating motility complex (MMC) was determined in human volunteers. Motor activity was monitored manometrically by means of seven perfused catheters: four in the stomach, one in the duodenum, two in the jejunum. Blood samples were drawn every 10 min and radioimmunoassayed for motilin, pancreatic polypeptide and somatostatin. In four volunteers two activity fronts (AF) were recorded and somatostatin levels correlated to the manometric data. The start of an AF in the upper duodenum was accompanied by somatostatin peaks. Peak values, taken as the mean of the levels in the sample obtained after the start of an AF, the preceding sample and the next one, averaged 32 +/- 4 pM compared to 12 +/- 2 pM in the remaining period. In four volunteers somatostatin was infused in doses of 1.2, 2.4 and 4.8 pM/kg per min over three consecutive periods of 90 min, causing dose-dependent increments in plasma somatostatin levels of 7, 32 and 76 pM. In all volunteers and for all doses all gastric activity was completely inhibited. In the intestine phase 2 was abolished but phase 3 stimulated: during somatostatin infusion phase 3 occurred with an interval of 39 +/- 6 min. Motilin and PP levels were decreased. As the two lowest infusion doses caused increases in somatostatin levels that might be considered as physiological, somatostatin seems to have a physiological role in the regulation of the migrating motor complex. We propose that it facilitates the progressing of the activity front into the small intestine.  相似文献

Background and AimsFloral diversity as a result of plant–pollinator interactions can evolve by two distinct processes: shifts between pollination systems or divergent use of the same pollinator. Although both are pollinator driven, the mode, relative importance and interdependence of these different processes are rarely studied simultaneously. Here we apply a phylogenetic approach using the Balsaminaceae (including the species-rich genus Impatiens) to simultaneously quantify shifts in pollination syndromes (as inferred from the shape and colour of the perianth), as well as divergent use of the same pollinator (inferred from corolla symmetry).MethodsFor 282 species we coded pollination syndromes based on associations between floral traits and known pollination systems, and assessed corolla symmetry. The evolution of these traits was reconstructed using parsimony- and model-based approaches, using phylogenetic trees derived from phylogenetic analyses of nuclear ribosomal and plastid DNA sequence data.Key ResultsA total of 71 % of studied species have a bee pollination syndrome, 22 % a bimodal syndrome (Lepidoptera and bees), 3 % a bird pollination syndrome and 5 % a syndrome of autogamy, while 19 % of species have an asymmetrical corolla. Although floral symmetry and pollination syndromes are both evolutionarily labile, the latter shifts more frequently. Shifts in floral symmetry occurred mainly in the direction towards asymmetry, but there was considerable uncertainty in the pattern of shift direction for pollination syndrome. Shifts towards asymmetrical flowers were associated with a bee pollination syndrome.ConclusionFloral evolution in Impatiens has occurred through both pollination syndrome shifts and divergent use of the same pollinator. Although the former appears more frequent, the latter is likely to be underestimated. Shifts in floral symmetry and pollination syndromes depend on each other but also partly on the region in which these shifts take place, suggesting that the occurrence of pollinator-driven evolution may be determined by the availability of pollinator species at large geographical scales.  相似文献

We report here modifications of human β-globin PAC clones by homologous recombination in Escherichia coli DH10B, utilising a plasmid temperature sensitive for replication, the recA gene and a wild-type copy of the rpsL gene which allows for an efficient selection for plasmid loss in this host. High frequencies of recombination are observed even with very small lengths of homology and the method has general utility for introducing insertions, deletions and point mutations. No rearrangements were detected with the exception of one highly repetitive genomic sequence when either the E.coli RecA- or the lambdoid phage encoded RecT and RecE-dependent recombination systems were used.  相似文献

The role of motilin in the generation of the gastric component of phase 3 of the migrating myoelectric complex (MMC) was studied in human volunteers. Interdigestive motor activity was recorded manometrically in five normal subjects after a fast of at least 15 h. Intraluminal pressures were measured in the gastric antrum at 4 levels 3 cm apart and in the upper small bowel at 3 levels 25 cm apart. Blood samples were drawn every 10 min for radioimmunoassay of motilin and PP. After 2 spontaneously occurring activity fronts (AF) had been recorded, bovine PP was infused intravenously at a rate of 50 μg/h. Following the third AF a combination of PP (50 μg/h) and 13-norleucine-motilin (30 μg/h) was infused until after the next AF. It was found that 90% of the spontaneous AFs originated in the stomach. They were preceded by a motilin peak. During the PP infusion, plasma PP levels increased from 29 to 256 pmol/l, motilin decreased from 42 to 15 pmol/l, and all AFs originated in the small bowel. During the combined PP and motilin infusion, plasma motilin increased to 330 pmol/l, and all AFs again originated in the stomach. It is concluded that motilin has an important role in the regulation of the MMC activity front in the stomach, but not in the small intestine. Postprandial rises in plasma PP might be involved in lowering motilin levels after a meal, and indirectly, in the disruption of gastric MMCs during digestion.  相似文献

Global greening, characterized by an increase in leaf area index (LAI), implies an increase in foliar carbon (C). Whether this increase in foliar C under climate change is due to higher photosynthesis or to higher allocation of C to leaves remains unknown. Here, we explored the trends in foliar C accumulation and allocation during leaf green-up from 2000 to 2017 using satellite-derived LAI and solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) across the Northern Hemisphere. The accumulation of foliar C accelerated in the early green-up period due to both increased photosynthesis and higher foliar C allocation driven by climate change. In the late stage of green-up, however, we detected decreasing trends in foliar C accumulation and foliar C allocation. Such stage-dependent trends in the accumulation and allocation of foliar C are not represented in current terrestrial biosphere models. Our results highlight that a better representation of C allocation should be incorporated into models.  相似文献
