Bulkiness, longevity and solidity of the body in woody plants enable the successive development of accessory shoots and adventitious roots in (1) both proximal and distal positions on organs, (2) both the above-ground and below-ground space, (3) both the aerial and soil environments. In monocotyledons, woody rhizomes play an essential role in the basic growth habit and architectural models. In dicotyledonous and a few gymnospermous trees, attached and successively disconnected ramets play a multilateral role in the pertinent life strategies. The majority of sprouts, coppice shoots and root suckers behave as opportunistic organs (a) serving as means of vegetative reproduction, (b) securing colonization of unoccupied ground, (c) increasing competitive power of the species within the community, (d) increasing survival rate of the stressed/disturbed genet in marginal habitats, (e) forming replacement for ageing or damaged organs, and (f) enabling reiteration of the genet's entire architectural model.  相似文献

Sonodynamic therapy, a promising new approach to cancer treatment, is based on synergistic cell killing by combination of certain drugs (sonosensitizers) and ultrasound. Although the mechanism of sonodynamic action is not understood, the role of free radicals produced from sonosensitizers by ultrasound is implicated. In this work, we studied formation of free radicals during the decomposition of several water-soluble azo compounds by 50 kHz ultrasound in aqueous solutions. Using the spin trap 3, 5-dibromo-4-nitrosobenzene sulfonate (DBNBS) tertiary carbon-centered radicals from 2, 2'-azobis (N,N'-dimethyl-eneisobutyramidine) dihydrochloride (VA-044), 2-(carbamoylazo)-isobutyronitrile (V-30), and 2, 2'-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) and CH3 radicals from 1, 1'-azobis (N,N'-dimethylformamide) (ADMF) were detected in argonsaturated solutions and the corresponding oxygen-centered radicals (alkoxyl and peroxyl) from VA-044, V-30, and AAPH were identified using the spin trap 5, 5'-dimethyl-l-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) in aerated sonicated solutions. No free radicals from 4, 4'-dihydroxyazobenzene-3, 3'-dicarboxylic acid, disodium salt (DHAB) could be found in either system. While VA-044 and AAPH could also be readily decomposed by heat (42.5°C and 80°C), V-30 decomposition only occurred in the ultrasound-exposed solutions. The most likely mechanism of decomposition of azo compounds by ultrasound is their thermolysis in the heated shell of the liquid surrounding ca vita ting bubbles driven by ultrasound and/or by pyrolysis inside these bubbles. Experiments using scavengers of ·OH and ·H, which are produced by sonolysis in aqueous solutions, demonstrated that these radicals are not involved in the ultrasound-mediated radical production from the azo compounds. Due to the known cytotoxic potential of free radicals produced from azo compounds, the use of these compounds as ultrasound sensitizers appears to be a promising approach for sonodynamic cell killing.  相似文献

Insoluble glycogen is an enzymatically modified form of naturally occurring soluble glycogen with a great adsorbing capacity. It can be metabolized by phagocytes to glucose. In this study we used insoluble glycogen intravenously in the experimental endotoxin shock of rats. Wistar male rats were sensitized to endotoxin by Pb acetate. The survival of rats were compared in groups of animals endotoxin shock treated and non-treated with insoluble glycogen. Furthermore, we have determined in vitro the binding capacity of insoluble glycogen for endotoxin, tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1 and secretable phospholipase A2. Use of 10 mg/kg dose of insoluble glycogen could completely prevent the lethality of shock induced by LD50 quantity of endotoxin in rats. All animals treated survived. Insoluble glycogen is a form of 'metabolizable internal adsorbents'. It can potentially be used for treatment of septic shock.  相似文献

Mouse hybridoma cells cultured on the verge of starvation-induced apoptosis, i.e. in a medium diluted with saline, proved to serve as a sensitive screening system for apoptosis-suppressing activity of nutrient medium components. Conventional amino acid mixtures were found to suppress the starvation-induced apoptosis, whereas a vitamin mixture was ineffective. (Frank F (1995) Biotechnol. Bioeng. 45: 86–90). Recent experiments showed that suppression of apoptosis, and concurrent resumption of growth, could be achieved by addition of single substances at millimolar concentrations. The set of active substances included certain coded L-amino acids (glycine, alanine, serine, threonine, proline, asparagine, glutamine, histidine), non-coded amino acids (-alanine, taurine, 4-aminobutyric acid), and a non-metabolizable analogue (2-aminoisobutyric acid). This finding shows that some amino acids do not act solely as nutrients, but also as specific signal molecules. The specificity of the effect points to the involvement of adaptively regulated amino acid transport systems A and N in maintaining the balance between triggering and suppression of starvation-induced apoptosis.  相似文献

Far-UV CD, 1H-NMR, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy are three of the most commonly used methods for the determination of protein secondary structure composition. These methods are compared and evaluated as a means of establishing isostructural metal substitution in metalloproteins, using the crystallographically defined rubredoxin from Desulfovibrio gigas and its well-characterized cadmium derivative as a model system. It is concluded that analysis of the FTIR spectrum of the protein amide I resonance represents the most facile and generally applicable method of determining whether the overall structure of a metalloprotein has been altered upon metal reconstitution. This technique requires relatively little biological material (ca. 300 micrograms total protein) and, unlike either CD or 1H-NMR spectroscopy, is unaffected by the presence of different metal ions, thus allowing the direct comparison of FTIR spectra before and after metal substitution.  相似文献

The effect of somatostatin and its two tetrapeptide fragments was investigated on turning activity induced by unilateral substantia nigra lesion in rats. Somatostatin in a dose of 0.6 nM had no action on the turning behavior, while a dose of 6 nM increased slightly while a dose of 12 nM significantly the contralateral turning. Cys-Lys-Asn-Phe and Phe-Trp-Lys-Thr had no action in low or high doses on the turning activity of the animals. The results suggest that somatostatin has a direct postsynaptic dopamine receptor stimulating effect. It seems that for dopamine receptor stimulating action the complete somatostatin molecule is needed.  相似文献

The gastric cytoprotective effects of vitamin A, De-Nol and sucralfate were compared with the effectiveness of pirenzepine in healing ulcer in patients with chronic gastric ulcer. A total of 100 patients was randomized into different groups: the patients were treated with antacids, vitamin A (3 X 50.000 IU), De-Nol liquid (4 X 5 ml), sucralfate (4 X 1 g) or pirenzepine (3 X 50 mg). The treatment was continued for 4 weeks. At the beginning, 2 and 4 weeks after starting treatment the patients were subjected to endoscopy and the size of the ulcer was measured planimetrically. The ulcer-healing effect of De-Nol liquid was significantly better than that of the antacids (p less than 0.01). Ulcer size was reduced significantly in all groups (p less than 0.01), however, at the end of the study the gastric ulcers were smallest in the De-Nol treated group (p less than 0.001). The dynamics of ulcer healing in the second week was most favourable in the patients receiving vitamin A (p less than 0.01). The present data point to the cytoprotective effects of De-Nol liquid, vitamin A and sucralfate and to their ability of healing chronic gastric ulcers.  相似文献

The fruit pitting symptoms on cherries, plums and prunes were investigated from the standpoint of their etiology. Tomato bushy stunt virus (TBSV) was isolated from pitted fruits of these plants and from their leaves and identified by means of biological and serological methods. Both isolates reacted with antisera againstPetunia and artichoke strain of this virus. In addition, the etiology of pseudopox disease of plum and that of cherry detrimental canker is discussed.  相似文献
