Brassicaceae plants are one of the most popular vegetables consumed all over the world and considered to be a good source of bioactive phytochemicals. Additionally, Brassica species and varieties are increasingly becoming a research model in plant science, as a consequence of the importance of their primary and secondary metabolites. Plant interaction with environmental stress factors including animals and insects herbivory, pathogens, metal ions, light, among others, is known to lead to the activation of various defense mechanisms resulting in a qualitative and/or quantitative change in plant metabolite production. Pre-harvest and/or post-harvest conditions are also known to affect this, since plants produce signaling molecules (e.g. salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, etc.) that cause a direct or indirect activation of metabolic pathways. That ultimately affects the production of phytochemicals, such as carbohydrates (sucrose and glucose), amino acids, phenolics (phenylpropanoids and flavonoids) and glucosinolates. These phytochemicals have diverse applications due to their antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties, but on the other hand these compounds or their breakdown products can act as anti-nutritional factors in diet. Replacement of the N-butyl side-chain of lead 5-HT4 receptor antagonist 2 with propanesulfonylpiperidinyl, morpholinyl, and piperazinyl groups led to higher affinity analogs 4-6. In vitro drug metabolism screens and cassette pharmacokinetic studies in the dog led to identification of the N-methylpiperazinyl analog (6b), which displayed pharmacokinetic, selectivity, and safety parameters sufficient for advancement to the clinic for the treatment of urinary incontinence. 相似文献

A single dose of CCl4 (1 ml/kg body weight, po in corn oil) increased the levels of SGOT (serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase), SGPT (serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase), LDH (lactate dehydrogenase), glutathione-S-transferase and depletion in reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase. It also caused enhancement in the levels of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and DNA synthesis. There was also pathological deterioration of hepatic tissue as evident from multivacuolated hepatocytes containing fat globules around central vein. The pretreatment of E. officinalis for 7 consecutive days showed a profound pathological protection to liver cell as depicted by univacuolated hepatocytes. Pretreatment with E. officinalis at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight, prior to CCl4 intoxication showed significant reduction in the levels of SGOT, SGPT, LDH, glutathione-S-transferase, LPO and DNA synthesis. There was also increase in reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase. The results suggest that E. officinalis inhibits hepatic toxicity in Wistar rats. 相似文献

The contribution of benthic microalgal production has been compared both within and outside a coastal eelgrass (Zostera marina L.) meadow. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios of suspended particulate organic matter (POM), epiphytic and epilithic organic matter (EOM), leaves of Z. marina (inside the meadow only) and two secondary consumer species (small crustaceans and fish) were measured inside and outside a meadow in Mitsukuchi Bay, Northwest Seto Inland Sea, Japan. Inside the meadow, primary producers (epiphyton) and consumers showed higher δ13C signatures than outside. Primary and secondary consumers inside the meadow were mainly dependent on epiphyton on the leaves of Z. marina, while consumer species outside the meadow were basically dependent on epilithon. 相似文献

Salmonella enterica in cattle production systems may be associated with important human and animal disease issues. However, tremendous diversity
exists among Salmonella recovered, and more information is needed about strains of greatest potential health concern, particularly those that are
multidrug resistant (MDR). By characterizing Salmonella isolates from commercial feedlot pens, this study aimed to evaluate the strain diversity and prevalence of MDR Salmonella from different types of composite pen samples. Antimicrobial susceptibility profiles, serotype, and presence or absence of
the integron-encoded intI1 gene were determined for 530 Salmonella isolates recovered using composite rope (n = 335), feces (n = 59), and water (n = 136) samples from 21 pens in 3 feedlots. The study investigated only pens with available isolates from multiple sample
types. Most isolates (83.0%) of the 19 Salmonella serotypes identified were susceptible or intermediately susceptible to all the antimicrobials evaluated. Resistance to sulfisoxazole
(14.9%), streptomycin (3.8%), and tetracycline (3.6%) were the most common. None of the isolates tested positive for a class
1 integron, and only 2.5% were resistant to multiple antimicrobials. All the MDR isolates, namely, serotypes Uganda (n = 9), Typhimurium (n = 2), and Give (n = 2), were resistant to at least five antimicrobials. Most MDR isolates (n = 11) were from two pens during 1 week within one feedlot. Overall, many Salmonella isolates collected within a pen were similar in terms of serotype and antimicrobial susceptibility regardless of sample type.
However, MDR Salmonella and rare serotypes were not recovered frequently enough to suggest a general strategy for appropriate composite sampling
of feedlot cattle populations for Salmonella detection and monitoring. 相似文献

Objective To investigate the impact of zinc supplementation in children with cholera.Design Double blind, randomised, placebo controlled trial.Setting Dhaka Hospital, Bangladesh.Participants 179 children aged 3-14 years with watery diarrhoea and stool dark field examination positive for Vibrio cholerae and confirmed by stool culture.Intervention Children were randomised to receive 30 mg elemental zinc per day (n=90) or placebo (n=89) until recovery. All children received erythromycin suspension orally in a dose of 12.5 mg/kg every six hours for three days.Main outcome measures Duration of diarrhoea and stool output.Results 82 children in each group completed the study. More patients in the zinc group than in the control group recovered by two days (49% v 32%, P=0.032) and by three days (81% v 68%, P=0.03). Zinc supplemented patients had 12% shorter duration of diarrhoea than control patients (64.1 v 72.8 h, P=0.028) and 11% less stool output (1.6 v 1.8 kg/day, P=0.039).Conclusion Zinc supplementation significantly reduced the duration of diarrhoea and stool output in children with cholera. Children with cholera should be supplemented with zinc to reduce its duration and severity.Trial registration Clinical trials . NCT00226616相似文献
