Pure carbon nanotube (CNT) oscillators are compared to the corresponding CNT oscillators encapsulating copper nanowires (Cu@CNTs) by molecular dynamics simulations. The classical oscillation theory provides a fairly good estimate of the mass dependence of the operating frequency when the CNT surface is not deformed by the Cu nanowire. The structural deformations of the CNT induced by the encapsulated copper nanowire have a greater effect on the oscillation frequency than the mass of the copper nanowire. The excess forces of the Cu@CNT oscillator are slightly higher than those of the CNT oscillator and the excess van der Waals forces induced by the inter-wall interactions are 17 times higher than the excess forces induced by the Cu nanowire–CNT interactions. 相似文献

Background and aims
Exotic species, nitrogen (N) deposition, and grazing are major drivers of change in grasslands. However little is known about the interactive effects of these factors on below-ground microbial communities.Methods
We simulated realistic N deposition increases with low-level fertilization and manipulated grazing with fencing in a split-plot experiment in California’s largest serpentine grassland. We also monitored grazing intensity using camera traps and measured total available N to assess grazing and nutrient enrichment effects on microbial extracellular enzyme activity (EEA), microbial N mineralization, and respiration rates in soil.Results
Continuous measures of grazing intensity and N availability showed that increased grazing and N were correlated with increased microbial activity and were stronger predictors than the categorical grazing and fertilization measures. Exotic cover was also generally correlated with increased microbial activity resulting from exotic-driven nutrient cycling alterations. Seasonal effects, on abiotic factors and plant phenology, were also an important factor in EEA with lower activity occurring at peak plant biomass.Conclusions
In combination with previous studies from this serpentine grassland, our results suggest that grazing intensity and soil N availability may affect the soil microbial community indirectly via effects on exotic cover and associated changes in nutrient cycling while grazing directly impacts soil community function. 相似文献65.

Bovine lactoferricin (LfcinB) is a multi‐functional peptide derived from proteolytic cleavage of bovine lactoferrin. LfcinB was found to antagonize the biological effects mediated by angiogenic growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF‐2) in endothelial cells. However, the effect of LfcinB on human articular cartilage remained unknown. Here, our findings demonstrate that LfcinB restored the proteoglycan loss promoted by catabolic factors (interleukin‐1β) IL‐1β and FGF‐2 in vitro and ex vivo. Mechanistically, LfcinB attenuated the effects of IL‐1β and FGF‐2 on the expression of cartilage‐degrading enzymes (MMP‐1, MMP‐3, and MMP‐13), destructive cytokines (IL‐1β and IL‐6), and inflammatory mediators (iNOS and TLR2). LfcinB induced protective cytokine expression (IL‐4 and IL‐10), and downregulated aggrecanase basal expression. LfcinB specifically activated ERK MAPK and Akt signaling pathways, which may account for its anti‐inflammatory activity. We also revealed that LfcinB exerted similar protective effects on human synovial fibroblasts challenged by IL‐1β, with minimal cytotoxicity. Collectively, our results suggest that LfcinB possesses potent anti‐catabolic and anti‐inflammatory bioactivities in human articular tissues, and may be utilized for the prevention and/or treatment of OA in the future. Carbonic anhydrase is an enzyme that reversibly catalyzes the hydration of carbon dioxide (CO2). It has been suggested recently that this remarkably fast enzyme can be used for sequestration of CO2, a major greenhouse gas, making this a promising alternative for chemical CO2 mitigation. To promote the economical use of enzymes, we engineered the carbonic anhydrase from Neisseria gonorrhoeae (ngCA) in the periplasm of Escherichia coli, thereby creating a bacterial whole-cell catalyst. We then investigated the application of this system to CO2 sequestration by mineral carbonation, a process with the potential to store large quantities of CO2. ngCA was highly expressed in the periplasm of E. coli in a soluble form, and the recombinant bacterial cell displayed the distinct ability to hydrate CO2 compared with its cytoplasmic ngCA counterpart and previously reported whole-cell CA systems. The expression of ngCA in the periplasm of E. coli greatly accelerated the rate of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) formation and exerted a striking impact on the maximal amount of CaCO3 produced under conditions of relatively low pH. It was also shown that the thermal stability of the periplasmic enzyme was significantly improved. These results demonstrate that the engineered bacterial cell with periplasmic ngCA can successfully serve as an efficient biocatalyst for CO2 sequestration. 相似文献

The Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3), a receptor tyrosine kinase, is involved in the proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of hematopoietic cells. FLT3 is highly overexpressed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) of the majority of patients. Screening for flavonoids including flavones, flavanones, flavonols, and flavanonols disclosed that luteolin was potent FLT3 enzyme inhibitor. Four new lanostane triterpenes, butyl lucidenate P (1), butyl lucidenate D2 (2), butyl lucidenate E2 (3) and butyl lucidenate Q (4) along with 11 known compounds (5–15) were isolated from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum. Their chemical structures were established mainly by 1D and 2D NMR techniques and mass spectrometry. Their anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated against LPS-induced NO production in macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. Compounds 1, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 15 showed inhibitory potency with IC50 values of 7.4, 6.4, 4.3, 9.4, 9.2 and 4.5 μM, respectively. Compounds 1, 3 and 15 dose-dependently reduced the LPS-induced iNOS expressions. Preincubation of cell with 1, 3 and 15 significantly suppressed LPS-induced expression of COX-2 protein. 相似文献
