Seasonality is known to influence ant activity in many tropical rain forests in the world such as South America and Africa. We surveyed ant fauna in the leaf litter in the locality of Minko'o. The work aimed to evaluate the effect of seasonal variation on the diversity and composition of litter ants. Ants were sampled from November 2015 to June 2017, using four sampling methods: visual capture, bait, pitfall trap and extraction. Species richness, Shannon diversity index and analysis of similarities were used to characterise diversity of ant communities between seasons. We collected 306 ant species, shared out between 56 genera and 11 subfamilies. Subfamilies Myrmicinae, Ponerinae, Dolichoderinae, Formicinae, Dorylinae, Cerapachyinae and Pseudomyrmecinae occurred in all the seasons. Species richness was highest in major dry season with 243 species followed by minor rainy season with 188, major rainy season with 177 species and finally minor dry season that recorded the lowest with 155 species. Kruskal–Wallis test showed that ant species richness did not differ between seasons (p > 0.05). Species diversity index indicated that diversity was the highest during minor dry season (H′ = 4.24), followed by the major dry season (H′ = 4.23), minor rainy season (H′ = 4.21) and lowest during major rainy season (H′ = 4.06). Eight most frequents ants have been recorded: Axinidris sp.1, Camponotus flavomarginatus, Monomorium guineense, Myrmicaria opaciventris, Odontomachus troglodytes, Carebara perpusilla, Paltothyreus tarsatus and Pheidole megacephala. Assessment of the seasonal effect on diversity reveals that dry season is richer and more diverse than rainy season and the season significantly influence the diversity of litter ants. 相似文献

In Cupriavidus metallidurans CH34, the proteins CnrX, CnrY, and CnrH regulate the expression of the cnrCBA operon that codes for a cation-efflux pump involved in cobalt and nickel resistance. The periplasmic part of CnrX can be defined as the metal sensor in the signal transduction complex composed of the membrane-bound anti-sigma factor CnrY and the extra-cytoplasmic function sigma factor CnrH. A soluble form of CnrX was overproduced and purified. This protein behaves as a dimer in solution as judged from gel filtration, sedimentation velocity experiments, and NMR. Native crystals diffracting to 2.3 A using synchrotron radiation were obtained using the hanging-drop vapor-diffusion method. They belong to the primitive monoclinic space group P2(1), with unit cell parameters a = 31.87, b = 74.80, c = 93.67 A, beta = 90.107 degrees. NMR data and secondary structure prediction suggest that this protein is essentially formed by helices. 相似文献

Mouse and human cDNA clones encoding the T-cell and mast cell growth factor P40, now designated IL-9, were used to identify DNA restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) in sets of somatic cell hybrids and between inbred strains of mice and interspecific backcross progeny. Segregation of mouse and human chromosomes among somatic cell hybrids indicated a location on mouse chromosome 13 and human chromosome 5. RFLPs were identified among inbred strains of mice. Analysis of chromosome 13 alleles for Tcrg, Dhfr, and Il-9 in an interspecific cross between Mus musculus and NFS/N or C58/J mice indicates that IL-9 is distal to Tcrg and Proximal to Dhfr. 相似文献

Objectives
Several studies have investigated potential functional signals in the trabecular structure of the primate proximal humerus but with varied success. Here, we apply for the first time a “whole‐epiphyses” approach to analysing trabecular bone in the humeral head with the aim of providing a more holistic interpretation of trabecular variation in relation to habitual locomotor or manipulative behaviors in several extant primates and Australopithecus africanus.Materials and methods
We use a “whole‐epiphysis” methodology in comparison to the traditional volume of interest (VOI) approach to investigate variation in trabecular structure and joint loading in the proximal humerus of extant hominoids, Ateles and A. africanus (StW 328).Results
There are important differences in the quantification of trabecular parameters using a “whole‐epiphysis” versus a VOI‐based approach. Variation in trabecular structure across knuckle‐walking African apes, suspensory taxa, and modern humans was generally consistent with predictions of load magnitude and inferred joint posture during habitual behaviors. Higher relative trabecular bone volume and more isotropic trabeculae in StW 328 suggest A. africanus may have still used its forelimbs for arboreal locomotion.Discussion
A whole‐epiphysis approach to analysing trabecular structure of the proximal humerus can help distinguish functional signals of joint loading across extant primates and can provide novel insight into habitual behaviors of fossil hominins.136.

(1,1′-13C)α,α-Trehalose was obtained in 37% yield from the Pavia condensation of 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-d-(1-13C)glucopyranose, in dichloromethane in the presence of trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride, followed by the usual deprotection techniques. The hydrolysis of this substrate by cockchafer trehalase was monitored at 37° by using 13C-n.m.r. spectroscopy with short recording times. Equimolecular amounts of α- and β-d-glucopyranose are released simultaneously by the action of the enzyme. This result is consistent with a bimolecular substitution mechanism, taking into account previous results involving C-2 asymmetric participation in the catalytic step of hydrolysis of α,α-trehalose. For comparative evaluation of its accuracy, the usual polarimetric technique was also used for the determination of the anomeric configuration of the d-glucose released by the action of the enzyme on α,α-trehalose. 相似文献

Abstract. The native flora of tropical oceanic islands is known to be particularly susceptible both to displacement and extinction, following the invasion of alien organisms. Miconia calvescens DC. (Melastomataceae), first introduced to Tahiti (French Polynesia, South Pacific Ocean) in 1937 as an ornamental plant, now covers over two-thirds of the Island. As it forms dense monotypic stands which have progressively overwhelmed the native forests, this plant pest is a direct threat to the rich Tahitian indigenous flora. Between 40 and 50 species of the 107 species endemic to Tahiti are thought to be on the verge of extinction. M. calvescens was finally declared a'noxious species in French Polynesia'in 1990. Without efficient control efforts and effective endangered plant conservation and protection legislation, M. calvescens could cause Tahiti and all the high islands of French Polynesia to become ecological deserts. 相似文献

Conifer‐feeding budworms emerge from overwintering sites as small larvae in early spring, several days before budburst, and mine old needles. These early‐emerging larvae suffer considerable mortality during this foraging period as they disperse in search of available, current‐year buds. Once buds flush, surviving budworms construct feeding shelters and must complete maturation before fresh host foliage senesces and lignifies later in the summer. Late‐developing larvae suffer greater mortality and survivors have lower fecundity when feeding on older foliage. Thus, there is a seasonal trade‐off in fitness associated with host synchrony: early‐emerging budworms have a greater risk of mortality during spring dispersal but gain better access to the most nutritious foliage, while, on the other hand, late‐emerging larvae incur a lower risk during the initial foraging period but must contend with rapidly diminishing resource quality at the end of the feeding period. We investigate the balance that results from these early‐season and late‐season synchrony fitness trade‐offs using the concept of the phenological window. Parameters associated with the variation in the phenological window are used to estimate generational fitness as a function of host‐plant synchrony. Because defoliation modifies these relationships, it is also included in the analysis. We show that fitness trade‐offs characterizing the phenological window result in a robust synchrony relationship between budworm and host plant over a wide geographic range in southern British Columbia, Canada. 相似文献
