Our previous investigation of the naturally occurring indolecompounds in barley and tomato shoots suggested that the biosynthesisof indol-3yl-acetic acid (IAA) from tryptophan might proceedvia either the indol-3yl-pyruvic acid or tryptamine pathwaysin both species. The results further indicated that the indol-3yl-lacticacid pathway for IAA formation might also be operative in tomato.In the present study, tryptophan-3-14C and tryptamine-2-14Cwere fed to excised shoots of both barley and tomato, and indol-3yl-lacticacid-3-14C was also fed to shoots of tomato. All three compoundswere found to give rise to radioactive IAA with little dilutionin specific activity. Feeding tryptophan-3-14C also resultedin the labelling of indol-3yl-pyruvic acid, indol-3yl-acetaldehyde,and tryptamine, which were isolated and chemically identifiedfrom both species, and radioactive indol-3yl-lactic acid andtryptophol were also produced in tomato. Indol-3yl-acetaldehydewas found to be labelled in both species after administrationof tryptamine-2-14C, while the principal metabolite of indol-3yl-lacticacid-3-14C was radioactive tryptophan. These findings, alongwith the results from a quantitative study of the radioactivemetabolites, indicate that both the indol-3yl-pyruvic acid andtryptamine pathways can operate in both species, while the formationof IAA from indol-3yl-lactic acid in tomato probably occursindirectly, via tryptophan. These conclusions were supportedby the demonstration of the enzymes, L-tryptophan transaminase,L-trypto-phan decarboxylase, and indol-3yl-acetaldehyde dehydrogenasein cell-free extracts of both tissues, and of indol-3yl-pyruvicacid decarboxylase in the tomato extract. Comparative phylogeography and the history of endemic vertebrates in the Wet Tropics rainforests of Australia 总被引:8,自引:2,他引:6
We examine the effects of historical climate change on vertebrate differentiation in tropical rainforest by comparing phylogeographic patterns in six species of widespread rainforest-restricted herpetofauna from throughout the Wet Tropics of Australia. Qualitative and quantitative comparisons of phylogeographic structure reveal strikingly similar patterns of pre-Pleistocene vicariant population differentiation on either side of a previously identified biogeographic break (variously referred to as the Black Mountain Barrier or Corridor; BMC). While divergence across the BMC antedates the Pleistocene, the impact of Quaternary climate change is apparent in populations on either side of the BMC. Consistent with palaeoclimatological reconstructions for the region, the distribution and degree of mtDNA diversity suggests that populations were fragmented and reduced to multiple refugia during Pleistocene glacial periods, with expansion following Holocene rainforest recovery. This pattern is repeated on both sides of the BMC, but substantial differences in the amount and distribution of mtDNA diversity within species indicate the importance of species-specific ecological characteristics. The historical processes of extinction and (re)colonization revealed by the comparative phylogeographic analysis of mtDNA sequences substantiate earlier suggestions that current regional patterns of species distribution and diversity in the Wet Tropics are largely determined by local extinctions and subsequent recolonization driven by Quaternary climate changes. 相似文献

Here we presented 10 polymorphic microsatellite loci obtained from scarlet ibis through an enriched genomic library. The analysis of 45 individuals from three Brazilian natural populations showed allelic diversity ranged from three to 17 alleles, observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.03 to 0.92, and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.06 to 0.92. These highly variable microsatellite loci can provide means for assessing overall genetic variation in its remnant natural populations, which may help the development of effective conservation programs. 相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Chloroplast development is inhibited in Euglena gracilis strain Z, when greened in a medium containing glucose. This inhibition is reflected not only in the pattern of chlorophyll accumulation but also in the chloroplast ultrastructure and activities of the 2 light reactions of photosynthesis. Chloroplasts of cells greening in the presence of glucose are delayed in déveloping certain structures. Photosystem I activity develops at about the same rate as that of the controls during the first 48 h of greening, after which it develops at a slower rate. The rate of development of photosystem II activity in cells greening in a glucose medium lags considerably behind that of the controls until the later hours of greening. There are similarities between glucose inhibition and chloramphenicol inhibition of chloroplast development. Glucose may inhibit a step in chloroplast development ultimately controlled by the chloroplast genome. 相似文献
