Same-different, duo-trio and triangle discrimination methods were compared using vanilla flavored yogurt with and without added sugar as the medium. Two experiments were performed, one in controlled laboratory conditions and the other in conditions approximating more to consumer testing. A modification of the same-different test had greater power than the duo-trio of triangle tests. At higher sugar concentrations, d'values for the three methods were equivalent. Yet, at lower sugar concentrations, the same-different d'tended to be higher. The results are discussed in terms of Sequential Sensitivity Analysis, memory effects and changes between β and criteria.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Trypanosoma cruzi in tissue cultures was studied with the electron microscope after double fixation in glutaraldehyde and osmium tetroxide, and embedding in Epon. Previous findings on its fine structure were confirmed, and some new structures were found in the flagellum and kinetoplast-chondriome. In the flagellum, an intraflagellar body was found, similar to that observed in other trypanosomes, beginning at the base of the flagellum and running along the axial fibre bundle thruout its length. The axial fibre bundle is formed by interconnecting tubules, the outer ones apparently smooth, the inner ones with a helical substructure. Lateral extensions from the outer tubules in the flagellar bundle seem to enter the intraflagellar body. The kinetopiast in the leishmania bodies has the same electrondense structure described before. In the trypanosome form it has assumed a large spherical shape, in which the formerly short, compressed fibres have grown in length, are more dispersed and have an irregular shape. They are oriented in the direction of the body's length in parallel array. The whole formation is continuous with a long mitochondrion which begins in the region of the nucleus and extends up almost to the tip of the trypanosome. The matrix of the kinetoplast in these forms is electron-transparent; the matrix of the mitochondria is rather dense. In a few extracellular trypanosomes, a special structure was found in which the kinetoplast is composed of electron-transparent formations, arranged in orderly horizontal lines quite similar to the mitochondrial cristae of the parasite. The significance of this structure is uncertain.  相似文献

Cold‐adapted species are thought to have had their largest distribution ranges in central Europe during the glacial periods. Postglacial warming caused severe range shifts of such taxa into higher latitudes and altitudes. We selected the boreomontane butterfly Lycaena helle (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) as an example to demonstrate the genetic effects of range changes, and to document the recent status of highly fragmented remnant populations. We analysed five polymorphic microsatellite loci in 1059 individuals sampled at 50 different localities scattered over the European distribution area of the species. Genetic differentiation was strong among the mountain ranges of western Europe, but we did not detect similarly distinct genetic groups following a geographical pattern in the more eastern areas. The Fennoscandian populations form a separate genetic group, and provide evidence for a colonization from southern Finland via northern Scandinavia to south‐central Sweden. Species distribution modelling suggests a large extension of the spatial distribution during the last glacial maximum, but highlights strong retractions to a few mountain areas under current conditions. These findings, combined with our genetic data, suggest a more or less continuous distribution of L. helle throughout central Europe at the end of the last ice age. As a consequence of postglacial warming, the species retreated northwards to Fennoscandia and escaped increasing temperatures through altitudinal shifts. Therefore, the species is today restricted to population remnants located at the mountain tops of western Europe, genetically isolated from each other, and evolved into genetically unique entities. Rising temperatures and advancing habitat destruction threaten this wealth of biodiversity. © 2010 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2010, 101 , 155–168.  相似文献

The Seychelles harbour an endemic frog family, the Sooglossidae, currently containing two genera: Sooglossus , with three species, and Nesomantis , with one species. These unique frogs are generally considered to be basal neobatrachians, although their relationships to other neobatrachian taxa, except the Nasikabatrachidae, remain unresolved. Our molecular phylogeny based on a dataset consisting of fragments of the nuclear rag-1 and rag-2 genes, as well as mitochondrial 16S rRNA in representatives of the major neobatrachian lineages, confirmed the previously postulated Sooglossidae + Nasikabatrachidae clade and the placement of the South American Caudiverbera with the Australian Myobatrachidae, but did not further resolve the position of sooglossids. Our results do, however, unambiguously show sooglossids to be monophyletic but the genus Sooglossus to be paraphyletic, with the type species Sooglossus sechellensis being more closely related to Nesomantis thomasseti than to Sooglossus gardineri and Sooglossus pipilodryas , in agreement with morphological, karyological, and bioacoustic data. As a taxonomic consequence, we propose to consider the genus name Nesomantis as junior synonym of Sooglossus , and to transfer the species thomasseti to Sooglossus . For the clade composed of the species gardineri and pipilodryas , here, we propose the new generic name Leptosooglossus . A significant genetic differentiation of 3% was found between specimens of Sooglossus thomasseti from the Mahé and Silhouette Islands, highlighting the need for further studies on their possible taxonomic distinctness.   © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 91 , 347–359.  相似文献
