Two separate surveys of root diseases of cereals in the Western Australian (WA) cereal belt were conducted: the first conducted annually for wheat and barley during 1976–1982 and the second for wheat during 2005–2007. For the 1976–1982 survey, the cereal belt was divided into 15 zones based on the location and rainfall. Sampling was representative of the actual cropping area, with both wheat and barley sampling sites selected by zone as a percentage of total sites. Over 31 000 plants were assessed from a total of 996 fields. Average take‐all incidence ranged from 3% in the northern low rainfall zone to 57% in the southern high rainfall zone. Other root diseases assessed included rhizoctonia root rot, fusarium crown rot and subcrown internode discolouration. During the 2005–2007 survey, around 20 000 plants from a total of 210 fields being intensively cropped with cereals were surveyed for take‐all, rhizoctonia root rot, fusarium crown rot, common root rot, root lesion nematode and cereal cyst nematode. The 2005–2007 survey results indicated that root and crown diseases prevailed in paddocks frequently cropped with cereals and occurred at damaging levels across all WA cropping districts surveyed. The more recent root disease survey identified that the fungal diseases rhizoctonia root rot and fusarium crown rot and the root lesion nematode were the most serious impediments to intensive cereal production, particularly in the southern region of WA. Comparing the 2005–2007 results with the previous survey of 1976–1982, the relative importance of take‐all appears to have declined over the past 30 years. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to observe the intracellular heat shock protein 72 (HSP72) and heme oxygenase-1 (HSP32) response to prolonged interval cycling following the ingestion of carbohydrates (CHO) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Six recreationally active males (mean ± SD; age 23.2 ± 2.9 years, height 179.5 ± 5.5 cm, body mass 76.5 ± 6.8 kg, and peak power output 315 ± 36 W) volunteered to complete a 90 min interval cycling exercise on four occasions. The trials were completed in a random and blinded manner following ingestion of either: placebo and an artificial sweetener (P–P), NaHCO3 and sweetener (B–P), placebo and CHO (P–CHO), and NaHCO3 and CHO (B–CHO). Both HSP72 and HSP32 were significantly increased in monocytes and lymphocytes from 45 min post-exercise (p ≤ 0.039), with strong relationships between both cell types (HSP72, r = 0.83; HSP32, r = 0.89). Exogenous CHO had no influence on either HSP72 or HSP32, but the ingestion of NaHCO3 significantly attenuated HSP32 in monocytes and lymphocytes (p ≤ 0.042). In conclusion, the intracellular stress protein response to 90 min interval exercise is closely related in monocytes and lymphocytes, and HSP32 appears to be attenuated with a pre-exercise alkalosis. 相似文献

There is evidence that copepods undertake vertical migrations in shallow waters off the north coast of Java. They aggregate at the surface of the sea at dawn and dusk but sink to deeper levels in the middle of the day. Chaetognaths feed on copepods and tend to occur in areas which are rich in their prey. The thermophilic marine bacterium Rhodothermus marinus produces a modular family 10 xylanase (Xyn10A). It consists of two N-terminal family 4 carbohydrate binding modules (CBMs) followed by a domain of unknown function (D3), and a catalytic module (CM) flanked by a small fifth domain (D5) at its C-terminus. Several truncated mutants of the enzyme have been produced and characterised with respect to biochemical properties and stability. Multiple calcium binding sites are shown to be present in the two N-terminal CBMs and recent evidence suggests that the third domain of the enzyme also has the ability to bind the same metal ligand. The specific binding of Ca2+ was demonstrated to have a pronounced effect on thermostability as shown by differential scanning calorimetry and thermal inactivation studies. Furthermore, deletion mutants of the enzyme were less stable than the full-length enzyme suggesting that module interactions contributed to the stability of the enzyme. Finally, recent evidence indicates that the fifth domain of Xyn10A is a novel type of module mediating cell-attachment. 相似文献

Abstract A numerical model of the coupled motion of a flexing surface in a high Reynolds number flow is presented for the simulation of flexible polyurethane heart valves in the aortic position. This is achieved by matching a Lagrangian dynamic leaflet model with a panel method based flow solver. The two models are coupled via the time-dependent pressure field using the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Incorporation of sub-cycling in the dynamic model equations and fast pre conditioning techniques in the panel method solver yields efficient convergence and near real-time simulations of valve motion. The generality of dynamic model allows different material properties and/or geometries to be studied easily and interactively. This interactivity is realized by embedding the models within a design environment created using the software IRIS Explorer TM. Two flow domains are developed, an infinite domain and an internal domain using conformal mapping theory. The maximum velocity of shortening of a muscle is an important parameter in musculoskeletal models. The most commonly used values are derived from animal studies; however, these values are well above the values that have been reported for human muscle. The purpose of this study was to examine the sensitivity of simulations of maximum vertical jumping performance to the parameters describing the force–velocity properties of muscle. Simulations performed with parameters derived from animal studies were similar to measured jump heights from previous experimental studies. While simulations performed with parameters derived from human muscle were much lower than previously measured jump heights. If current measurements of maximum shortening velocity in human muscle are correct, a compensating error must exist. Of the possible compensating errors that could produce this discrepancy, it was concluded that reduced muscle fibre excursion is the most likely candidate. 相似文献

The electrical activity of the heart may be modeled with a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) known as the bidomain model. Computer simulations based on these equations may become a helpful tool to understand the relationship between changes in the electrical field and various heart diseases. Because of the rapid variations in the electrical field, sufficiently accurate simulations require a fine-scale discretization of the equations. For realistic geometries this leads to a large number of grid points and consequently large linear systems to be solved for each time step. In this paper, we present a fully coupled discretization of the bidomain model, leading to a block structured linear system. We take advantage of the block structure to construct an efficient preconditioner for the linear system, by combining multigrid with an operator splitting technique. 相似文献

Marker obstruction during human movement analyses requires interpolation to reconstruct missing kinematic data. This investigation quantifies errors associated with three interpolation techniques and varying interpolated durations. Right ulnar styloid kinematics from 13 participants performing manual wheelchair ramp ascent were reconstructed using linear, cubic spline and local coordinate system (LCS) interpolation from 11–90% of one propulsive cycle. Elbow angles (flexion/extension and pronation/supination) were calculated using real and reconstructed kinematics. Reconstructed kinematics produced maximum elbow flexion/extension errors of 37.1 (linear), 23.4 (spline) and 9.3 (LCS) degrees. Reconstruction errors are unavoidable [minimum errors of 6.7 mm (LCS); 0.29 mm (spline); 0.42 mm (linear)], emphasising careful motion capture system setup must be performed to minimise data interpolation. For the observed movement, LCS-based interpolation (average error of 14.3 mm; correlation of 0.976 for elbow flexion/extension) was most suitable for reconstructing durations longer than 200 ms.
