The soft-tissue chin may become ptotic following surgery in this area. The mentalis muscles which are responsible for proper central lip motion and chin point position may be affected. The mentalis muscle origin may require resuspension at a proper level. This reattachment may be performed by means of an intraoral approach. Non-absorbable sutures are used to hold the soft-tissue chin upward. The exact method involves placing drill holes through the alveolar bone, into which sutures are passed. These sutures are then placed through the lower mentalis muscles and tightened. Chin and lip position may be corrected in certain cases. Ancillary procedures are required to correct vestibular scarring and submental scars.  相似文献

The use of tissue expansion in breast reconstruction is a recognized alternative surgical approach. The second generation of tissue-expanding prostheses is the permanent reverse double-lumen expander. In a series of 100 breast reconstructions using a permanent tissue expander, the clinical benefits of producing a moderate degree of mound ptosis along with observed reduction in pain during expansion are discussed. Additional advantages to the use of the device are the cost savings realized, elimination of a second procedure and a second anesthetic exposure, and a high degree of patient acceptance and satisfaction. This study includes breast reconstruction following mastectomies for malignant and premalignant disease, as demonstrated in 75 delayed and 25 immediate reconstructions, with the longest follow-up being 3 years. Complications of infection (3 percent), significant capsular contracture (4 percent), and implant failure (3 percent) are the most frequent and major complications observed yet. In no instance was breast reconstruction rendered unachievable in the face of these complications. The demonstrated results achieved with permanent tissue-expanding prosthesis, complemented by the obvious benefits and a low rate of significant complications, endorse this method as a viable alternative approach in reconstructive breast surgery.  相似文献

The results of multidrug therapy of 44 male patients with non-seminomatous testicular tumours are discussed. The diagnosed tumours were of all stages of the clinical advances and were treated with combined chemotherapy (surgery and PVP regimen). Thirty two patients (73%) are followed up between 7 and 103 months and survived, complete remission is noted in 29 patients (66%) including 6 patients who survived over 5 years. Symptoms of the tumour are found in 3 patients. Twelve patients (27%) died. The treatment did not produce life-threatening complications. The obtained results have been compared with those reported by other authors.  相似文献

Summary Two methods have been developed in order to discriminate between lateral roots, nodules and root-derived structures which exhibit both root and nodule histological features and which can develop on legumes inoculated with certainRhizobium mutants. The first method, known as the clearing method, allows the observation by light microscopy of cleared undissected root-structures. The second, known as the slicing method, is a complementary technique which provides a greater degree of structural information concerning such structures. The two methods have proved invaluable in defining unequivocally the nature of the interaction between a rhizobial strain and a legume host.  相似文献

An exteriorized loop of mouse intestine was exposed to 147Pm low-energy electrons, where the dose rate decreased by a factor of 5 from the base of the crypt to the top of the proliferative zone. A crypt survival curve was obtained, expressed in terms of exposure time. The shape of the curve was interpreted in terms of survival parameters for colony-forming cells (clonogens) derived using 137Cs gamma rays and the depth-dose curve measured for 147Pm electrons. It is concluded that the shape of the crypt survival curve using 147Pm electrons is inconsistent with the notion of either the presence of a large number of clonogens or a small number near the top of the proliferative zone. A computer fitting procedure showed that the best agreement between predicted and observed curves was achieved with 2.7 +/- 0.5 clonogens at cell position 5.6 +/- 0.6, in the putative stem-cell zone.  相似文献

The RIF-1 tumor cell line contains a small number of cells (1-20 per 10(6) cells) that are resistant to various single antineoplastic drugs, including 5-fluorouracil (5FU), methotrexate (MTX), and adriamycin (ADR). For 5FU the frequency of drug resistance is lower for tumor-derived cells than for cells from cell culture; for MTX the reverse is true, and for ADR there is no difference. In vitro irradiation at 5 Gy significantly increased the frequency of drug-resistant cells for 5FU, MTX, and ADR. In vivo irradiation at 3 Gy significantly increased the frequency of drug-resistant cells for 5FU and MTX, but not for ADR. The absolute risk for in vitro induction of MTX, 5FU, and ADR resistance, and for in vivo induction of 5FU resistance, was 1-3 per 10(6) cells per Gy; but the absolute risk for in vivo induction of MTX resistance was 54 per 10(6) cells per Gy. The frequency of drug-resistant cells among individual untreated tumors was highly variable; among individual irradiated tumors the frequency of drug-resistant cells was significantly less variable. These studies provide supporting data for models of the development of tumor drug resistance, and imply that some of the drug resistance seen when chemotherapy follows radiotherapy may be due to radiation-induced drug resistance.  相似文献

Formic acid solutions of 1, 10, 100, and 1000 mM have been irradiated with 4He ions of 5 to 25 MeV, and the production of OH radicals has been determined by measuring the yield of CO2. The differential OH radical yields were obtained from the observed energy dependencies; with 25 MeV 4He ions they range from 1.91 to 3.48 molecules/100 eV for formic acid concentrations of 1 to 1000 mM, respectively. The OH radical yields decrease with decreasing particle energy, and at the maximum LET (230 eV/nm) they range from 0.30 at 1 mM to 0.82 molecules/100 eV at 1000 mM. These values are only 15 to 20% of that found with fast electrons. The OH radical yields are relatively more dependent on formic acid concentration at higher 4He ion energies. The average time dependencies of the OH radical from 7.7 ns to 7.7 microseconds were estimated from the formic acid concentration dependencies at various 4He energies. In terms of absolute yields, there is a considerable variation in the yields of OH radicals with time at the highest energies, but at the maximum LET the OH radical yields are nearly invariant with time after about 10 ns.  相似文献

Accumulation and regulation of elastin in the rat uterus   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The relative levels of elastin-specific mRNA were used as a measure of tropoelastin expression in uteri from pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats. The levels of elastin-specific mRNA were also correlated with values for net tropoelastin production and net deposition of mature, crosslinked elastin. The total content of uterine elastin increased throughout gestation, reaching maximal levels at Day 19 of gestation, which were three times those of nongravid tissue. Following involution, the elastin content decreased rapidly to near baseline values by 5 days postpartum. The content of soluble elastin, estimated using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, paralleled in part the increase in elastin deposition and elastin mRNA levels. Uterine elastin metabolism appears to be unlike that in other elastic tissues, e.g., lung and large blood vessels. In most elastin containing tissues, the protein is synthesized during discrete developmental periods and is not readily degraded. However, uterine elastin is continuously expressed, and appears to be in a continual cycle of degradation and replacement.  相似文献

Sexual contact keys a profound series of acute and chronic changes in males that, presumably, are orchestrated by acute pulsatile release of hormones. An experimental paradigm is reported in which male rats were paired periodically with either the same or different estrous females to receive identical amounts of copulatory experiences. Results confirmed the hypothesis that exposure to an unfamiliar female would induce a different endocrine response which would be reflected in various androgen-sensitive systems. The "successively polygynous" males showed more sexual behavior than "monogamous" males, and their respective females solicited the males differently, as well. Circulating levels of testosterone were higher immediately after sexual contact with an unfamiliar than with a familiar female partner. There were no differences in testosterone titers among the groups when the animals were killed at either 2 or 7 weeks after the final copulatory experiences. Yet, necropsies at 2 weeks postcopulation revealed that primary and secondary sex structures from polygynous males clearly were larger. Differences between the two experimental groups were reduced after 7 weeks of sexual rest, yet, polygnous males continued to show a different structural profile than the other groups. Conclusions were that males may experience greater activation of androgen-sensitive behavior and physiology following qualitatively different sexual contacts.  相似文献
