Herpes zoster, an acute specific viral infection, occurs more commonly than is generally supposed. It should be differentiated from other diseases involving the ear and skin; it must be considered as a possible etiologic agent in some palsies of the facial, glossopharyngeal or vagal nerves.The type of cephalic herpes zoster should be carefully differentiated; cases involving the “geniculate zone” may be other than “Ramsay Hunt''s syndrome.” This syndrome is now defined as a herpes zoster eruption of the external ear at the “geniculate zone” with involvement of the seventh or seventh and eighth nerves.The “topognostic” method is the best for determining the level at which the facial nerve has been affected.It is questioned whether there is a single outstanding therapeutic agent for this disease. Cortisone had no apparent therapeutic effect in a case reported herein.  相似文献

Horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase (HLADH) has been non‐covalently immobilized on an immobilized artificial membrane (IAM) high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) stationary phase. The resulting IAM‐HLADH retained the reductive activity of native HLADH as well as the enzyme's enantioselectivity and enantiospecificity. HLADH was also immobilized in an IAM HPLC stationary phase prepacked in a 13 × 4.1 mm ID column to create an immobilized enzyme reactor (HLADH‐IMER). The reactor was connected through a switching valve to a column containing a chiral stationary phase (CSP) based upon p‐methylphenylcarbamate derivatized cellulose (Chiralcel OJR‐CSP). The results from the combined HLADH‐IMER/CSP and chromatographic system demonstrate that the enzyme retained its activity and stereoselectivity after immobilization in the column and that the substrate and products from the enzymatic reduction could be transferred to a second column for analytical or preparative separation. The combined HLADH‐IMER/CSP system is a prototype for the preparative on‐line use of cofactor‐dependent enzymes in large‐scale chiral syntheses. Oil spills may considerably damage sensitive coastal wetlands. In this study, the tolerance limits of a dominant coastal salt marsh plant, Juncus roemerianus, to diesel oil and its phytoremediation effectiveness in wetland environments were investigated in the greenhouse. J. roemerianus was transplanted into salt marsh sediment contaminated with diesel fuel at concentrations of 0, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320, and 640 mg diesel g?1 dry sediment. Plant stem density, shoot height, aboveground biomass and belowground biomass were detrimentally impacted at high oil dosages even 1 year after transplantation. Tolerance limits were estimated between 160 and 320 mg g?1 based on various plant variables. Importantly, J. roemerianus enhanced oil degradation; at the 40 mg/g diesel dosage, concentrations of residual total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in the sediment planted with J. roemerianus were significantly lower than those of unplanted sediments 1 year after treatment initiation. Furthermore, concentrations of total targeted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and n-alkanes in the J. roemerianus planted treatment were, respectively, about 3% and 15% of the unplanted treatment. Concentration reduction in all categories of hydrocarbons suggested that J. roemerianus effectively phytoremediated the diesel-contaminated wetlands.  相似文献
