Cloud computing serves as a platform for remote users to utilize the heterogeneous resources in data-centers to compute High-Performance Computing jobs. The physical resources are virtualized in Cloud to entertain user services employing Virtual Machines (VMs). Job scheduling is deemed as a quintessential part of Cloud and efficient utilization of VMs by Cloud Service Providers demands an optimal job scheduling heuristic. An ideal scheduling heuristic should be efficient, fair, and starvation-free to produce a reduced makespan with improved resource utilization. However, static heuristics often lead to inefficient and poor resource utilization in the Cloud. An idle and underutilized host machine in Cloud still consumes up to 70% of the energy required by an active machine (Ray, in Indian J Comput Sci Eng 1(4):333–339, 2012). Consequently, it demands a load-balanced distribution of workload to achieve optimal resource utilization in Cloud. Existing Cloud scheduling heuristics such as Min–Min, Max–Min, and Sufferage distribute workloads among VMs based on minimum job completion time that ultimately causes a load imbalance. In this paper, a novel Resource-Aware Load Balancing Algorithm (RALBA) is presented to ensure a balanced distribution of workload based on computation capabilities of VMs. The RABLA framework comprises of two phases: (1) scheduling based on computing capabilities of VMs, and (2) the VM with earliest finish time is selected for jobs mapping. The outcomes of the RALBA have revealed that it provides substantial improvement against traditional heuristics regarding makespan, resource utilization, and throughput.  相似文献

X-Ray data collected at 87 K showed crystals of sodium α-l-guluronate dihydrate (C6H9O7Na · 2 H2O) to be orthorhombic, P212121 with a = 7.591(2), b = 18.884(5), c = 6.842(2) Å, and Z = 4. The structure was solved by direct methods, and full-matrix least-squares refinement based on 1587 Fo yielded R = 0.043 and Rw = 0.033. The structure analysis indicates partial anomeric disorder with α:β ~90:10. The guluronate ring has the 1C4(l) conformation. Sodium binds two translation-equivalent guluronate units and one water molecule in a primary five-fold coordination. The complexing oxygen functions, which include all axial hydroxyl groups and one carboxylate oxygen atom in the guluronate ring, describe a distorted trigonal bipyramid. A prominent feature of the crystal structure is the stacks of sodium atoms and guluronate residues in alternating sequence along the c axis. The stacks are held together by an intricate system of hydrogen bonds involving all oxygen atoms in the structure. The water molecules play an important role in this system both as hydrogen donors and acceptors.  相似文献

Background and aims Cress-seed (Lepidium sativum) exudate exerts an allelochemical effect, promoting excessive hypocotyl elongation and inhibiting root growth in neighbouring Amaranthus caudatus seedlings. We investigated acidic disaccharides present in cress-seed exudate, testing the proposal that the allelochemical is an oligosaccharin—lepidimoic acid (LMA; 4-deoxy-β-l-threo-hex-4-enopyranuronosyl-(1→2)-l-rhamnose).Methods Cress-seed exudate was variously treated [heating, ethanolic precipitation, solvent partitioning, high-voltage paper electrophoresis and gel-permeation chromatography (GPC)], and the products were bioassayed for effects on dark-grown Amaranthus seedlings. Two acidic disaccharides, including LMA, were isolated and characterized by electrophoresis, thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and then bioassayed.Key Results Cress-seed exudate contained low-Mr, hydrophilic, heat-stable material that strongly promoted Amaranthus hypocotyl elongation and inhibited root growth, but that separated from LMA on electrophoresis and GPC. Cress-seed exudate contained ∼250 µm LMA, whose TLC and electrophoretic mobilities, susceptibility to mild acid hydrolysis and NMR spectra are reported. A second acidic disaccharide, present at ∼120 µm, was similarly characterized, and shown to be β-d-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-d-galacturonic acid (Xyl→GalA), a repeat unit of xylogalacturonan. Purified LMA and Xyl→GalA when applied at 360 and 740 µm, respectively, only slightly promoted Amaranthus hypocotyl growth, but equally promoted root growth and thus had no effect on the hypocotyl:root ratio, unlike total cress-seed exudate.Conclusions LMA is present in cress seeds, probably formed by rhamnogalacturonan lyase action on rhamnogalacturonan-I during seed development. Our results contradict the hypothesis that LMA is a cress allelochemical that appreciably perturbs the growth of potentially competing seedlings. Since LMA and Xyl→GalA slightly promoted both hypocotyl and root elongation, their effect could be nutritional. We conclude that rhamnogalacturonan-I and xylogalacturonan (pectin domains) are not sources of oligosaccharins with allelochemical activity, and the biological roles (if any) of the disaccharides derived from them are unknown. The main allelochemical principle in cress-seed exudate remains to be identified.  相似文献

Various concentrations of salt (NaCI) were shown to have an influence on the differentiation of tissues in the root and stem ofBacopa monniera (L) Wettst. Higher concentrations induced drastic changes in roots grown on salt-supplemented media; epidermal and cortical cells experienced changes in shape, size, and orientation and/or were got disintegrated. A low concentration of salt induced a profuse development of root hairs which gradually disappeared at higher concentrations. Air spaces in the stem cortex were enlarged and xylem cell walls in the vascular ring were thickened.  相似文献

The open sharing of genomic data provides an incredibly rich resource for the study of bacterial evolution and function and even anthropogenic activities such as the widespread use of antimicrobials. However, these data consist of genomes assembled with different tools and levels of quality checking, and of large volumes of completely unprocessed raw sequence data. In both cases, considerable computational effort is required before biological questions can be addressed. Here, we assembled and characterised 661,405 bacterial genomes retrieved from the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) in November of 2018 using a uniform standardised approach. Of these, 311,006 did not previously have an assembly. We produced a searchable COmpact Bit-sliced Signature (COBS) index, facilitating the easy interrogation of the entire dataset for a specific sequence (e.g., gene, mutation, or plasmid). Additional MinHash and pp-sketch indices support genome-wide comparisons and estimations of genomic distance. Combined, this resource will allow data to be easily subset and searched, phylogenetic relationships between genomes to be quickly elucidated, and hypotheses rapidly generated and tested. We believe that this combination of uniform processing and variety of search/filter functionalities will make this a resource of very wide utility. In terms of diversity within the data, a breakdown of the 639,981 high-quality genomes emphasised the uneven species composition of the ENA/public databases, with just 20 of the total 2,336 species making up 90% of the genomes. The overrepresented species tend to be acute/common human pathogens, aligning with research priorities at different levels from individual interests to funding bodies and national and global public health agencies.

This study presents the first uniformly assembled, comprehensively described and searchable dataset of 661,405 bacterial genomes; this resource will empower more scientists to harness the multitude of data in public sequencing archives, but also reveals the biased composition of these archives, with 90% of the data originating from just 20 species.  相似文献

In contrast to common belief, recent studies have confirmed that intrusive growth of fusiform cambial initials has a significant role in the rearrangement of the initials, but does not contribute to the cambial circumference increment. We observed a rapid rearrangement of cambial initials on a long series of transverse sections of the vascular cambium and the wood of a 50-year-old pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) tree. A comparison of cell arrangement in consecutive sections, as well as a critical analysis of tangential reconstructions, has confirmed that changes in cell locations in a group of cells on the tangential surface caused no change in the total tangential width of the whole group. Models illustrating changes in locations of the initials have been proposed, assuming that intrusive growth, which makes the growing initials intrude between the neighbouring initials and their immediate derivatives, is localized on the longitudinal edges of cells. We infer that intrusive growth of the cambial initials in P. sylvestris is not involved in the cambial circumference increment, but plays a significant role in the rearrangement of the initials, probably allowing for a relaxation of shearing strains generated during radial growth. The relationship of intrusive growth with the elimination of initials has been discussed with reference to the frequency of anticlinal divisions. It has been proposed that the occurrence of anticlinal divisions in excess over the actual requirement for increase in the cambial circumference could be due to internal shearing strains.  相似文献

Readily available chemical fertilizers have resulted in a decline in the use of organic manure (e.g., green manures), a traditionally sustainable source of nutrients. Based on this, we applied urea at the rate of 270 kg ha−1 with and without green manure in order to assess nitrogen (N) productivity in a double rice cropping system in 2017. In particular, treatment combinations were as follows: winter fallow rice-rice (WF-R-R), milk vetch rice-rice (MV-R-R), oil-seed rape rice-rice (R-R-R) and potato crop rice-rice (P-R-R). Results revealed that green manure significantly (p ≤ 0.05) improved the soil chemical properties and net soil organic carbon content increased by an average 117.47%, total nitrogen (N) by 28.41%, available N by 26.64%, total phosphorus (P) by 37.77%, available P by 20.48% and available potassium (K) by 33.10% than WF-R-R, however pH was reduced by 3.30% across the seasons. Similarly, net dry matter accumulation rate enhanced in green manure applied treatments and ranked in order: P-R-R > R-R-R > MV-R-R > WF-R-R. Furthermore, the total leaf dry matter transport (t ha−1 ) for the P-R-R in both seasons was significantly higher by an average 11.2%, 7.2% and 36 % than MV-R-R, R-R-R, and WF-R-R, respectively. In addition, net total nitrogen accumulation (kg ha−1 ) was found higher in green manure applied plots compared to the control. Yield and yield attributed traits were observed maximum in green manure applied plots, with treatments ranking as follows: P-R-R > R-R-R > MV-R-R > WF-R-R. Thus, results obtained highlight ability of green manure to sustainably improve soil quality and rice yield.  相似文献
