Spinal cord stimulation in peripheral vascular pain

Results in 12 patients suffering from pain due to peripheral vascular pathology and treated with spinal neurostimulation are reported. The best results were obtained in stage III of vascular disease; however, our results indicate that regression of the pain symptom and healing of trophic lesions do not always correspond to any variation in blood flow.     

Inhibition by α-amanitin of ribonucleic acid polymerase solubilized from rat liver nuclei

1. alpha-Amanitin inhibits in vitro the RNA polymerase solubilized from isolated rat liver nuclei. 2. In contrast with previous observations with whole nuclei, the inhibition occurs approximately to the same extent in the presence and in the absence of ammonium sulphate. 3. Evidence is presented that the toxin acts by interacting with the enzyme itself and not with DNA or other components.     

Ribonucleic Acid Polymerase Induced by Vaccinia Virus: Lack of Inhibition by Rifampicin and α-Amanitin

The RNA polymerase activity present in the cytoplasm of BHK cells infected with vaccinia virus is not affected by rifampicin or by alpha-amanitin.     

Microviscosity of mouse splenocyte cytoplasmic membrane modified by some antibiotics

This study has assessed the changes in the polarization fluorescence of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene in the splenic membrane of mice treated with clindamycin, penicillin, cefoxitin, cefamandole, cephaloridine, tetracycline, and erythromycin. The data show that most of the antibiotics tested modified membrane activity, as was shown by the changes in membrane microviscosity parameters.     

Cellular injury and carcinogenesis. Inhibition of metabolism of dimethylnitrosamine by aminoacetonitrile

1. Aminoacetonitrile, a lathyrogenic agent known to decrease the hepatotoxic action of dimethylnitrosamine, inhibited the metabolism of this compound by rats in vivo and by rat liver slices in vitro. 2. Methylation of nucleic acids in rat liver and kidney by dimethylnitrosamine in vivo was inhibited by treatment of the animals with aminoacetonitrile. 3. These findings are discussed in relation to the hypothesis that dimethylnitrosamine requires metabolism to exert its hepatotoxic and carcinogenic action.
