Tomato and pepper are two Solanaceous fruit crops that display an enormous diversity in fruit morphology. In this review, we will present an overview of the history of tomato and pepper and discuss key plant traits that were specifically selected during domestication of the two species. The traits discussed are fruit weight, shape, colour, ripening, pungency and plant architecture. We will review these characteristics as well as the genetic loci or genes that control these features, questioning whether mutations at orthologous loci occurred independently in these two species or whether unique plant and fruit features resulted in selection at different genes. 相似文献

We investigated the long-term effects of divorce and early separation from one parent on HPA axis reactivity, in young adults without psychopathology. Participants were 44 young subjects, 22 whose parents divorced before they reached age 10, and 22 controls. Psychiatric symptomatology was measured with the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), family perceived stress by the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), and bonding by the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI). Assessment of HPA axis function included baseline morning cortisol and ACTH and cortisol response to a CRH stimulation test. No baseline or stimulated group differences were observed for ACTH. Cortisol levels were consistently but insignificantly lower in the divorce group throughout the CRH stimulation reaching statistical significance only at 5 min (p<0.03). Group by time effect reached a trend level (p<0.06). A correlation was found between psychiatric symptomatology and PBI scores; however, both parameters did not correlate with HPA axis activity. A significant correlation was found between DAS scores and ACTH. A regression model revealed a contributing effect for both family stress and child-parent bonding to stimulated ACTH levels. These preliminary findings suggest that even in the absence of adult psychopathology, a history of childhood separation from one parent due to divorce may lead to detectable, albeit mild, long-term alterations in HPA axis activity. Furthermore, they suggest that level of stress at home and parental bonding are important determinants of this effect. It is likely that divorce has significant and sustained effects on children's HPA axis only in the context of a traumatic separation. 相似文献

A series of reboxetine analogs was synthesized and evaluated for in vitro binding as racemic mixtures. The best candidate (INER) was synthesized as the optically pure (S,S) enantiomer, labeled with iodine-123 and its in vivo binding determined by SPECT imaging in baboons. In Drosophila, the body axes are specified during oogenesis through interactions between the germline and the overlying somatic follicle cells [1-5]. A Gurken/TGF-alpha signal from the oocyte to the adjacent follicle cells assigns them a posterior identity [6, 7]. These posterior cells then signal back to the oocyte, thereby inducing the repolarization of the microtubule cytoskeleton, the migration of the oocyte nucleus, and the localization of the axis specifying mRNAs [8-10]. However, little is known about the signaling pathways within or from the follicle cells responsible for these patterning events. We show that the Salvador Warts Hippo (SWH) tumor-suppressor pathway is required in the follicle cells in order to induce their Gurken- and Notch-dependent differentiation and to limit their proliferation. The SWH pathway is also required in the follicle cells to induce axis specification in the oocyte, by inducing the migration of the oocyte nucleus, the reorganization of the cytoskeleton, and the localization of the mRNAs that specify the anterior-posterior and dorsal-ventral axes of the embryo. This work highlights a novel connection between cell proliferation, cell growth, and axis specification in egg chambers. 相似文献

Allozyme variation of a rare relict plant, birthwort Aristolochia manshuriensis Kom., was examined. The main parameters of genetic variation in natural populations of A. manshuriensis from the Anan’evka, Nezhinka, and Malaya Borisovka river basins (Primorskii Krai) were inferred from analysis of nine enzyme systems, presumably encoded by 18 loci. At 99% polymorphism criterion, 24.4% of A. manshuriensis loci were shown to be polymorphic. It was recently discovered that subthreshold membrane potential fluctuations of cortical neurons can precisely repeat during spontaneous activity, seconds to minutes apart, both in brain slices and in anesthetized animals. These repeats, also called cortical motifs, were suggested to reflect a replay of sequential neuronal firing patterns. We searched for motifs in spontaneous activity, recorded from the rat barrel cortex and from the cat striate cortex of anesthetized animals, and found numerous repeating patterns of high similarity and repetition rates. To test their significance, various statistics were compared between physiological data and three different types of stochastic surrogate data that preserve dynamical characteristics of the recorded data. We found no evidence for the existence of deterministically generated cortical motifs. Rather, the stochastic properties of cortical motifs suggest that they appear by chance, as a result of the constraints imposed by the coarse dynamics of subthreshold ongoing activity. 相似文献

with cyanobacteria, are unknown. In the present study we analyzed gene expression in a common Mediterranean sponge (Petrosia ficiformis) in relation to its symbiotic (with cyanobacteria) or aposymbiotic status. A screening approach was applied to identify genes
expressed differentially in symbiotic specimens growing in the light and aposymbiotic specimens growing in a dark cave at
a short distance from the illuminated specimens. Out of the various differentially expressed sequences, we isolated two novel
genes (here named PfSym1 and PfSym2) that were up-regulated when cyanobacterial symbionts were harbored inside the sponge cells. The sequence of one of these
genes (PfSym2) was found to contain a conserved domain: the scavenger receptor cysteine rich (SRCR) domain. This is the first report on
the expression of sponge genes in relation to symbiosis and, according to the presence of an SRCR domain, we suggest possible
