Products of laser photolysis of thymine and their transformation in chemical hydrolysis of polynucleotides to the bases

Some main products of laser photolysis and gamma-radiolysis of thymine were shown to undergo subsequent transformations during DNA hydrolysis by formic acid to the bases. The method has been developed for the quantitative determination of the character and the degree of thymine transformations under the effect of laser- and gamma-radiations with a reference to the end-products of the irradiated thymine hydrolysis.     

Effect of peritol on the activity of the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system

A study was made of the activity of the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system under the effect of peritol (ciprohepatadin), an antagonist of serotonin receptors. Experiments were carried ot on male rats in which the blood content of corticosterone, aldosterone and ACTH was determined 3, 6 hours and 14, 20 and 30 days after peritol administration (twice a day). Pronounced inhibitory effect on the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system was found to be attainable on a more frequent exposure (every 3 hours) to peritol with a purpose of maintaining the optimal drug concentration in various body tissues. The latter circumstance gives rise to peritol effect which is realized through both the central mechanisms (ACTH content) and as a result of direct action on steroid output.     

Comparative study of the circulation of semisynthetic cephalosporins in the blood of rabbits]

Circulation of 4 semisynthetic cephalosporins, such as cephaloridin, cephalotin, cephradin and cephacetryl in the blood of rabbits after their intramuscular administration in single doses of 5 or 20 mg/kg was studied. The above antibiotics were satisfactorily absorbed into the blood reaching the maximum level within 15 to 30 minutes. The blood levels of cephalotin were the lowest and the rate of its elimination from the blood was higher than that of the other drugs. A four-fold increase in the doses of cephalosporins was not accompanied by a proportional increase in their levels in the rabbit blood, the time of the antibiotic circulation in the blood being not significantly changed.     

Macrolide antibiotics for oral intake in the treatment and prevention of suppurative surgical infection]

The authors studied the clinical efficacy of antibiotics of the macrolides group--erythromycin, oleandomycin, triacetylalleandomycin and leukomycin--in complex treatment of 280 patients with suppurative surgical infection caused by a gram-positive, mainly staphylococcal, microbial flora. Various medicinal forms were used: tablets, capsules, granules, syrup. Efficacy of treatment comprised 70-78 per cent. Tolerance of antibiotics was good in the majority of patients.
