The neuronal mechanisms of general anesthesia are still poorly understood. Besides several characteristic features of anesthesia observed in experiments, a prominent effect is the bi-phasic change of power in the observed electroencephalogram (EEG), i.e. the initial increase and subsequent decrease of the EEG-power in several frequency bands while increasing the concentration of the anaesthetic agent. The present work aims to derive analytical conditions for this bi-phasic spectral behavior by the study of a neural population model. This model describes mathematically the effective membrane potential and involves excitatory and inhibitory synapses, excitatory and inhibitory cells, nonlocal spatial interactions and a finite axonal conduction speed. The work derives conditions for synaptic time constants based on experimental results and gives conditions on the resting state stability. Further the power spectrum of Local Field Potentials and EEG generated by the neural activity is derived analytically and allow for the detailed study of bi-spectral power changes. We find bi-phasic power changes both in monostable and bistable system regime, affirming the omnipresence of bi-spectral power changes in anesthesia. Further the work gives conditions for the strong increase of power in the δ-frequency band for large propofol concentrations as observed in experiments.  相似文献

A mathematical model is proposed which systematically investigates complex calcium oscillations in pancreatic acinar cells. This model is based on calcium-induced calcium release via inositol trisphosphate receptors (IPR) and ryanodine receptors (RyR) and includes calcium modulation of inositol (1,4,5) trisphosphate (IP3) levels through feedback regulation of degradation and production. In our model, the apical and the basal regions are separated by a region containing mitochondria, which is capable of restricting Ca2+ responses to the apical region. We were able to reproduce the observed oscillatory patterns, from baseline spikes to sinusoidal oscillations. The model predicts that calcium-dependent production and degradation of IP3 is a key mechanism for complex calcium oscillations in pancreatic acinar cells. A partial bifurcation analysis is performed which explores the dynamic behaviour of the model in both apical and basal regions.  相似文献

Regeneration and reestablishment of synaptic connections is an important topic in neurobiological research. In the present study, the regeneration of auditory afferents and the accompanying effects in the central nervous system are investigated in nymphs and adults of the bush cricket Tettigonia viridissima L. (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae). In all animals in which the tympanal nerve is crushed, neuronal tracing shows a regrowth of the afferents into the prothoracic ganglion. This regeneration is seen in both adult and nymphal stages and starts 10–15 days after nerve crushing. Physiological recordings from the leg nerve indicate a recovery of tympanal fibres and a formation of functional connections to interneurones in the same time range. Electrophysiological recordings from the neck connective suggest additional contralateral sprouting of interneurones and the formation of aberrant connections. The regeneration processes of the tympanal nerve in nymphal stages and adults appear to be similar.  相似文献

Characteristic resonance Raman spectra are observed on ionization of the phenolic groups in adriamycin. On the basis of these results, vibrational assignments for the Raman bands of adriamycin are reported. Distinct Raman spectra are observed for Cu(II)-adriamycin complexes at pH approximately 5 and pH approximately 13. The data indicate that at lower pH a bis complex of Cu(II) is formed, which transforms to a polymeric Cu(II) chelate at higher pH. Upon interaction of the metal-drug complex with calf thymus DNA at pH approximately 5, a ternary complex is formed in which the Cu(II)-complexed adriamycin is intercalated into DNA.  相似文献

Study I: Choice reaction times were measured in 12 normally menstruating women using a numerals-keys serial response task with three set sizes (two, four, and eight). Testing was carried out at four successive phases of the menstrual cycle corresponding with different states of neuroendocrine activity. They were, respectively: (i) 2nd day of flow; (ii) 4th day after cessation of flow (preovulation); (iii) 12th day after flow (postovulation); and (iv) 3rd day before next (estimated) flow. No consistent relationship between performance and phase of the cycle could be demonstrated. The only significant effect was an increase in reaction time with increasing set size. The study provides no support for the theory that variations in estrogen and progesterone levels may cause behaviorally relevant changes in central nervous system functioning. Study II: Four women suffering from premenstrual tension were examined thrice weekly on the same task for 4 consecutive weeks. Three hours prior to testing, a blood sample was drawn and assayed for estrogen, progesterone, and gonadotropin (LH). Performance on the serial choice response task bore no consistent relationship to blood levels of any of the three hormones. Performance before ovulation (as determined by peak LH level) did not differ significantly from that after ovulation. These results concur with those of Study I: there was no reliable relationship between hormonal status and performance.  相似文献
