This paper presents the results of a field study designed to determine how enterprise models are used. The paper begins with an introduction to enterprise models then provides an overview of the survey method used. No known empirical studies have been conducted to determine how enterprise models actually are used by industry. The research is designed to answer this question. A screening sample and complete web-based survey of 72 enterprise modelers was conducted. The primary research question of this survey was on the use of enterprise models, with particular focus on the three dimensions of living models: scope, enactment, and dynamicity. Half the respondents claim that their enterprise models were of their entire division, multiple divisions, and even multiple enterprises. It is encouraging to see that enterprise models are used on such a wide scope. The enactment of the enterprise models was not as large as was expected. Of the respondents, 75% claimed that their models did not receive information from the enterprise more frequently than quarterly. The same was true for how often the models provided information to the enterprise. Seventy-five percent did not update their models more than five times (although, 32% did update the model three to five times). Finally, additional areas of research are proposed.  相似文献

As utilized technical products, durable wood furniture plays an important role in a future circular economy (CE). However, contemporary CE literature predominantly focuses on wood's biochemical properties and its potential as a consumable material within the bio-cycle. This perspective prevents meaningful consideration of CE strategies for the wood products sector, particularly for value-retention processes (VRPs), including reuse, repair, and refurbishment. We adapt and apply the VRP model introduced by the UN International Resource Panel (IRP) to wood furniture products to quantify select environmental benefits made possible through cascading-use, via VRPs (vs. new manufacturing). Unlike traditional life cycle assessment (LCA), this model accounts for impacts incurred and avoided through product life-extension and VRPs, relative to conventional systems of new manufacturing, disposal, and replacement. Three case studies of wood-based chairs are conducted to demonstrate this new application of the VRP model to compare the relative environmental impacts associated with wood furniture that is diverted to cascading-use, prior to recycling. In collaboration with industry partners, new material requirements (kg/unit), energy requirements (kWh/unit), emissions (kg CO2-e./unit), and waste generation (kg/unit) were calculated for newly manufactured chairs (OEM new) and subsequent cascading-use via reuse, repair, and refurbishment. The differing degrees of environmental impact avoidance and material efficiency are presented for each case study product and VRP, to provoke discussion and future research regarding the effective and optimal utilization of technical, durable wooden furniture within a CE.  相似文献

The determination of the relationship between a pair of individuals is a fundamental application of genetics. Previously, we and others have demonstrated that identity-by-descent (IBD) information generated from high-density single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data can greatly improve the power and accuracy of genetic relationship detection. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) marks the final step in increasing genetic marker density by assaying all single-nucleotide variants (SNVs), and thus has the potential to further improve relationship detection by enabling more accurate detection of IBD segments and more precise resolution of IBD segment boundaries. However, WGS introduces new complexities that must be addressed in order to achieve these improvements in relationship detection. To evaluate these complexities, we estimated genetic relationships from WGS data for 1490 known pairwise relationships among 258 individuals in 30 families along with 46 population samples as controls. We identified several genomic regions with excess pairwise IBD in both the pedigree and control datasets using three established IBD methods: GERMLINE, fastIBD, and ISCA. These spurious IBD segments produced a 10-fold increase in the rate of detected false-positive relationships among controls compared to high-density microarray datasets. To address this issue, we developed a new method to identify and mask genomic regions with excess IBD. This method, implemented in ERSA 2.0, fully resolved the inflated cryptic relationship detection rates while improving relationship estimation accuracy. ERSA 2.0 detected all 1st through 6th degree relationships, and 55% of 9th through 11th degree relationships in the 30 families. We estimate that WGS data provides a 5% to 15% increase in relationship detection power relative to high-density microarray data for distant relationships. Our results identify regions of the genome that are highly problematic for IBD mapping and introduce new software to accurately detect 1st through 9th degree relationships from whole-genome sequence data.  相似文献

Hydrogels that mimic the natural extracellular matrix (ECM) are used in three-dimensional cell culture, cell therapy, and tissue engineering. A semi-synthetic ECM based on cross-linked hyaluronana offers experimental control of both composition and gel stiffness. The mechanical properties of the ECM in part determine the ultimate cell phenotype. We now describe a rheological study of synthetic ECM hydrogels with storage shear moduli that span three orders of magnitude, from 11 to 3 500 Pa, a range important for engineering of soft tissues. The concentration of the chemically modified HA and the cross-linking density were the main determinants of gel stiffness. Increase in the ratio of thiol-modified gelatin reduced gel stiffness by diluting the effective concentration of the HA component.  相似文献

During neonatal development, adrenergic control of hepatic glucose metabolism undergoes a transition from beta-receptor to alpha 1-receptor-mediated dominance coincident with the onset of function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenocortical axis at the conclusion of the third to fourth week postpartum. To determine whether glucocorticoids contribute to this switch, neonatal rats were given 1 mg/kg of dexamethasone on postnatal days 13, 14 and 15 and the adrenergic receptor population examined by radioligand binding techniques. Dexamethasone accelerated the maturational replacement of beta-receptors with the alpha 1-subtype; the loss of beta-receptors was not reversible upon discontinuing treatment. When the glucocorticoid was given earlier, on days 7, 8 and 9, similar effects were obtained, but the suppression of the beta-subtype was only temporary; treatment before parturition (gestational days 17, 18 and 19) failed to suppress beta-receptor binding. These results suggest that, during a critical period, adrenocorticosteroids provide an important signal for the transition of adrenergic control of hepatic function.  相似文献
