Lindernia kinmenensis Y. S. Liang, C. H. Chen, & C. L. Tasi sp. nov. from Kinmen (Taiwan) is described. The new species belongs to section Torenioides and is most similar to L. crustacea. It differs from the latter by the following characters: calyx pubescent between the ridges (vs pubescent on ridges), with (2)3(4) bristles on the ridge near the apex of the calyx‐lobes (vs without such bristles), corolla shorter, 6–8 mm long (vs 7–11 mm long) and pale purple (vs purple or blue), posterior theca with obtuse (vs acute) apex. This species is usually found in sandy wetlands. A line drawing, colour photos and SEM micrographs of pollen and seed as aids for identification are provided.  相似文献

Drosophila Spitz is a homolog of transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-alpha) and is an activating ligand for the EGF receptor (Egfr). It has been shown that Star is required for Spitz activity. Here we show that Star is quantitatively limiting for Spitz production during eye development. We also show that Star and Spitz proteins colocalize in Spitz sending cells and that this association is not coincident with the site of translation--consistent with a function for Star in Spitz processing or transmission. Finally, we have defined minimal sequences within both Spitz and Star that mediate a direct interaction and show that this binding can occur in vivo.  相似文献

The primary pathway of TTP synthesis in the heart requires thymidine salvage by mitochondrial thymidine kinase 2 (TK2). However, the compartmentalization of this pathway and the transport of thymidine nucleotides are not well understood. We investigated the metabolism of [3H]thymidine or [3H]TMP as precursors of [3H]TTP in isolated intact or broken mitochondria from the rat heart. The results demonstrated that [3H]thymidine was readily metabolized by the mitochondrial salvage enzymes to TTP in intact mitochondria. The equivalent addition of [3H]TMP produced far less [3H]TTP than the amount observed with [3H]thymidine as the precursor. Using zidovudine to inhibit TK2, the synthesis of [3H]TTP from [3H]TMP was effectively blocked, demonstrating that synthesis of [3H]TTP from [3H]TMP arose solely from the dephosphorysynthase pathway that includes deoxyuridine triphosphatelation of [3H]TMP to [3H]thymidine. To determine the role of the membrane in TMP metabolism, mitochondrial membranes were disrupted by freezing and thawing. In broken mitochondria, [3H]thymidine was readily converted to [3H]TMP, but further phosphorylation was prevented even though the energy charge was well maintained by addition of oligomycin A, phosphocreatine, and creatine phosphokinase. The failure to synthesize TTP in broken mitochondria was not related to a loss of membrane potential or inhibition of the electron transport chain, as confirmed by addition of carbonyl cyanide 4-(trifluoromethoxy) phenylhydrazone and potassium cyanide, respectively, in intact mitochondria. In summary, these data, taken together, suggest that the thymidine salvage pathway is compartmentalized so that TMP kinase prefers TMP synthesized by TK2 over medium TMP and that this is disrupted in broken mitochondria.  相似文献

Severity of peanut rust caused by Puccinia arachidis was reduced by 15 edible oils tested. Flaxseed oil was the best suppressing the disease completely. Peanut oil, wheat germ oil, brown rice oil, aloe oil, olive oil and corn germ oil also caused more than 75% reduction in disease incidence. Flaxseed oil reduced the rust to a negligible level in the greenhouse and was nearly as effective as the fungicide chlorothalonil in peanut field trials. The control of peanut rust by flaxseed oil did not result from activation of the host defence mechanisms. Flaxseed oil did not affect urediniospore germination, but reduced the germ tube length and completely suppressed appressorium formation which is essential for the pathogen to form an infection peg to pass through the stomatal aperture and infect the host tissue. Although the pathogen had penetrated, flaxseed oil still exerted some inhibitory effect against the growth of the pathogen. The advantages of using flaxseed oil to control peanut rust are that it is relatively inexpensive, easy to prepare, and friendly to the environment and human health.  相似文献

Cross validation (CV) was used to analyze the effects of different environments and different genotypic samples on estimates of the proportion of genotypic variance explained by QTL (p). Testcrosses of 344 F(3) maize lines grown in four environments were evaluated for a number of agronomic traits. In each of 200 replicated CV runs, this data set was subdivided into an estimation set (ES) and various test sets (TS). ES were used to map QTL and estimate p for each run (p(ES)) and its median (p(ES)) across all runs. The bias of these estimates was assessed by comparison with the median (p(TS.ES)) obtained from TS. We also used two independent validation samples derived from the same cross for further comparison. The median p(ES) showed a large upward bias compared to p(TS.ES). Environmental sampling generally had a smaller effect on the bias of p(ES) than genotypic sampling or both factors simultaneously. In independent validation, p(TS.ES) was on average only 50% of p(ES). A wide range among p(ES) reflected a large sampling error of these estimates. QTL frequency distributions and comparison of estimated QTL effects indicated a low precision of QTL localization and an upward bias in the absolute values of estimated QTL effects from ES. CV with data from three QTL studies reported in the literature yielded similar results as those obtained with maize testcrosses. We therefore recommend CV for obtaining asymptotically unbiased estimates of p and consequently a realistic assessment of the prospects of MAS.  相似文献

本实验观察了Ⅰ型和Ⅱ型单纯疱疹病毒(简称HSV-1和HSV-2)的空斑特征和对温度的敏感性。病毒接种豚鼠胚细胞3天后,HSV-2形成的空斑较HSV-1的大,边缘也较整齐。两者对热(37℃水浴)灭活无明显差别,但HSV-2对低温(-70℃)的耐受性比HSV-1弱。HSV-1 DNA经EcoRI消化后,在我们的实验条件下,凝胶电泳可分辨出5条清晰的DNA带,而在此分子量范围内,HSV-2仅有两条带;用Hpa Ⅰ消化后,HSV-1有8条以上分辨清晰的带,HSV-2仅有一条可分辨的带。 本研究为HSV-1和HSV-2的分型鉴定、保藏提供了简便、准确的检测手段和实验依据。  相似文献

Genome-scale metabolic network reconstruction can be used for simulating cellular behaviors by simultaneously monitoring thousands of biochemical reactions, and is therefore important for systems biology studies in microbes. However, the labor-intensive and time-consuming reconstruction process has hindered the progress of this important field. Here we present a web server, MrBac (Metabolic network Reconstructions for Bacteria), to streamline the network reconstruction process for draft genome-scale metabolic networks and to provide annotation information from multiple databases for further curation of the draft reconstructions. MrBac integrates comparative genomics, retrieval of genome annotations, and generation of standard systems biology file format ready for network analyses. We also used MrBac to automatically generate a draft metabolic model of Salmonella enteric serovar Typhimurium LT2. The high similarity between this automatic model and the experimentally validated models further supports the usefulness and accuracy of MrBac. The high efficiency and accuracy of MrBac may accelerate the advances of systems biology studies on microbiology. MrBac is freely available at http://sb.nhri.org.tw/MrBac.  相似文献
