Consequences of head size following trauma to the human head. 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The objective of the present study was to evaluate whether variation of human head size results in different outcome regarding intracranial responses following a direct impact. Finite Element models representing different head sizes and with various element mesh densities were created. Frontal impacts towards padded surfaces as well as inertial loads were analyzed. The variation in intracranial stresses and intracranial pressures for different sizes of the geometry and for various element meshes were investigated. A significant correlation was found between experiment and simulation with regard to intracranial pressure characteristics. The maximal effective stresses in the brain increased more than a fourfold, from 3.6kPa for the smallest head size to 16.3kPa for the largest head size using the same acceleration impulse. When simulating a frontal impact towards a padding, the head injury criterion (HIC) value varies from the highest level of 2433 at a head mass of 2.34kg to the lowest level of 1376 at a head mass of 5.98kg, contradicting the increase in maximal intracranial stresses with head size. The conclusion is that the size dependence of the intracranial stresses associated with injury, is not predicted by the HIC. It is suggested that variations in head size should be considered when developing new head injury criteria. 相似文献

We tested the truncated 7-37 glucagon-like peptide 1 (TGLP-1), a naturally occurring porcine intestinal peptide, and other members of the glucagon family, including pancreatic glucagon (G-29), GLP-1 and GLP-2 for their ability to activate the cAMP generating system in rat gastric glands and HGT-1 human gastric cancer cells. In rat fundic glands, TGLP-1 was about 100 times more potent (EC50 = 2.8 X 10(-9) M) than GLP-1 of G-29, and 10 times more potent than G-29 in the HGT-1 cell line. BackgroundAppendiceal goblet cell carcinoids (GCCs) exhibit neuroendocrine and adenocarcinoma features.ResultsMedian age for f/m was 59/58 years, respectively, and similar for localized and disseminated disease. At diagnosis 54 patients had localized appendiceal disease (f/m: 29/25). According to TNM 24% had Stage I, 70% had Stage II and 6% had Stage III. Twenty-nine patients had disseminated disease (f/m: 27/2). Chromogranin A, synaptophysin and p53 were positive in >90%. Serotonin was positive in 70%. Median Ki67 index was 32% (6-75%) and higher in Tang group C (50%) compared to group A (30%; p<0.0001), and group B (30%; p<0.004). All patients had surgery. Sixty-three (76%) had radical resections including all patients with localized disease. Median OS was 83 months. The 1-, 5- and 10-year survival rates were 90%, 58%, and 38%, respectively. For localized disease OS was 164 months and 1-, 5- and 10-year survival rates were 100%, 80%, and 55%, respectively. For disseminated disease OS was 19 months and 1-, 5- and 10-year survival rates were 73%, 18% and 6%, respectively. The 1-, 5- and 10 year-survival rates for f/m were 87%/96%, 49%/76% and 31%/57%, respectively (p = 0.02). According to the Tang classification group A, B, and C OS was 118, 83 and 20 months, respectively (p = 0.0002).ConclusionThe Tang classification was found to be a significant prognostic factor, while the Ki67 index was not. Localized GCCs occurred equally in males and females, while disseminated GCCs were mostly seen in females. Median age of patients with localized disease and disseminated disease was identical. Objectives
We evaluate the potential of paired isotopic analysis of bone carbonate and collagen to examine the diet of post-medieval human and animal populations from England (17th–19th c.), including, for the first time, manufacturing towns in northern England. The potential for identifying C4 crop consumption is explored alongside regional and local patterning in diet by sex and socioeconomic status.Materials and Methods
Humans (n = 216) and animals (n = 168) were analyzed from sites in London and northern England for both carbon and nitrogen isotopes of bone collagen (𝛿13Ccoll, 𝛿15Ncoll). Isotopic analysis of bone carbonates (𝛿13Ccarb, 𝛿18Ocarb) was carried out on all humans and 27 animals, using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy–attenuated total reflectance to assess diagenesis.Results
Variations in diet were observed between and within different populations by geographical location and socioeconomic status. Three pigs and one cow consumed C4 resources, indicating the availability of C4-fed animal protein. Londoners consumed more animal and marine protein and C4 resources. Middle- and upper-class populations from both London and northern populations also had greater access to these foods compared to those of lower status in the same regions.Discussion
This substantial multi-isotope dataset deriving from bone carbonate and collagen combined from diverse post-medieval urban communities enabled, for the first time, the biomolecular identification of the dynamics of C4 consumption (cane sugar/maize) in England, providing insight into the dynamics of food globalization during this period. We also add substantially to the animal dataset for post-medieval England, providing further insight into animal management during a key moment of agricultural change.118.
