To determine the main benefits of clonal expansion of Miscanthus sinensis patches (monoclones), we observed the annual pattern of the areal expansion of a number of M. sinensis patches and examined how the quantity of rhizomes in such patches is related to changes in their basal area. To forage for nutriments, a patch must continuously widen its habitat. Patches annually expanded centrifugally by sympodial branching of short rhizomes, which originated in tillering that occurred more than once a year. However, the basal area of the patches approached a ceiling as the patches aged. Both the number and the weight of rhizomes in the patches continued to increase as long as the basal area expanded. The mean weight of rhizomes in patches also initially increased quickly, but then reached a ceiling as the clones expanded. Similarly, the amount of reserve substance per shoot in the patches increased asymptotically along with the clonal expansion, depending on the rhizome mass allotted to each shoot. These results suggest that, in the clonal growth of M. sinensis patches, the accumulation of reserve matter in the rhizomes is more important than foraging in new areas.  相似文献

We investigated the contribution of tetrodotoxin (TTX)-resistant sodium channels to the augmented exercise pressor reflex observed in decerebrated rats with femoral artery ligation. The pressor responses to static contraction, to tendon stretch, and to electrical stimulation of the tibial nerve were compared before and after blocking TTX-sensitive sodium channels on the L3-L6 dorsal roots of rats whose hindlimbs were freely perfused and rats whose femoral arteries were ligated 72 h before the start of the experiment. In the freely perfused group (n=9), pressor (Δ22±4 mmHg) and cardioaccelerator (Δ32±6 beats/min) responses to contraction were attenuated by 1 μM TTX (Δ4±1 mmHg, P<0.05 and Δ17±4 beats/min, P<0.05, respectively). In the 72 h ligated group (n=9), the augmented pressor response to contraction (32±4 mmHg) was also attenuated by 1 μM TTX (Δ8±2 mmHg, P<0.05). The cardioaccelerator response to contraction was not significantly attenuated in these rats. In addition, TTX suppressed the pressor response to tendon stretch in both groups of rats. Electrical stimulation of the tibial nerve evoked similar pressor responses between the two groups (freely perfused: Δ74±9 mmHg and 72 h ligated: Δ78±5 mmHg). TTX attenuated the pressor response to the tibial nerve stimulation by about one-half in both groups. Application of the TTX-resistant sodium channel blocker A-803467 (1 μM) with TTX (1 μM) did not block the pressor response to tibial nerve stimulation to any greater extent than did application of TTX (1 μM) alone. Although the contribution of TTX-resistant sodium channels to the augmented exercise pressor reflex may be slightly increased in rats with chronic femoral artery ligation, TTX-resistant sodium channels on dorsal roots do not play a major role in the augmented exercise pressor reflex.  相似文献

An attempt was made to isolate the hypotensive substances from a hot water extract of kinkan. Eight flavonoid glycosides were isolated by repeated chromatography and by gel filtration after extracting with n-butanol and treating with lead subacetate. Their structures were established to be 6,8-di-C-glucosylapigenin (1), 3,6-di-C-glucosylacacetin (2), 2″-O-α-l-rhamnosyl-4′-O-methyl-vitexin (3), 2″-O-α-l-rhamnosyl-4′-O-methylisovitexin (4), 2″-O-α-l-rhamnosylvitexin (5), 2″-O-α-l-rhamnosylorientin (6), 2″-O-α-l-rhamnosyl-4′-O-methylorientin (7) and ponicilin (8) by UV. MS, 1-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy, and by sugar analysis. Each component was intravenously injected in SHR-SP (0.5 ~ 1.0 mg/100 g of body weight), 1, 2, 5 and 6 were found to lower the rat blood pressure.

Among these compounds, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 were new flavone glycosides.  相似文献

Mineral (phosphorus, sulfur, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese) concentrations were measured in plasma, and several tissues from female Wistar rats (young: 3-wk-old; mature: 6-mo-old) were fed on a dietary regimen designed to study the combined or singular effects of age and dietary protein on mineral status. Three diets, respectively, contained 5, 15, and 20% of bovine milk casein. Nephrocalcinosis chemically diagnosed by increased calcium and phosphorus in kidney was prevented in rats fed a 5% protein diet. Renal calcium and phosphorus were more accumulated in young rats than mature rats. A 5% protein diet decreased hemoglobin and blood iron. The hepatic and splenic iron was increased by a 5% protein diet in mature rats but was not altered in young rats. Mature rats had higher iron in brain, lung, heart, liver, spleen, kidney, muscle, and tibia than young rats. A 5% protein diet decreased zinc in plasma and liver. Zinc in tibia was increased with dietary protein level in young rats but was not changed in mature rats. A 5% protein diet decreased copper concentration in plasma of young rats but not in mature rats. Mature rats had higher copper in plasma, blood, brain, lung, heart, liver, spleen, and kidney than young rats. With age, manganese concentration was increased in brain but decreased in lung, heart, liver, kidney, and muscle. These results suggest that the response to dietary protein regarding mineral status varies with age.  相似文献

To study the change of gene expression in the brain tissues of schizophrenia, we used the gene expression monitoring technology and compared two sets of pools each containing four RNA samples of frontal cortex that were randomly selected from the control or schizophrenia group. We found that the expression of two genes were commonly altered in four pairwise comparisons; the expression of DEAD-box protein p72 (p72) gene was increased and neuropeptide Y (NPY) gene expression was decreased in the schizophrenia group compared with the control group. To substantiate these results, we estimated their mRNA levels by the real time TaqMan method in the 15 samples of each frontal or temporal cortex of four matched groups of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and normal controls. A statistically significant decrease was observed for NPY in the frontal, but not in the temporal cortex, in the schizophrenia group (P=0.003). A decrease was also observed in the frontal cortex of the bipolar disorder group (P=0.031). In contrast, p72 gene expression showed no significant difference among the four groups. In conclusion, by novel technology of DNA array and TaqMan PCR analyses, we found that neuropeptide Y mRNA levels were significantly reduced in the frontal cortex in both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.  相似文献

The cellular basis of the length-dependent increases in contractile force in the beating heart has remained unclear. Our aim was to investigate whether length-dependent mediated increases in contractile force are correlated with myosin head proximity to actin filaments, and presumably the number of cross-bridges activated during a contraction. We therefore employed x-ray diffraction analyses of beat-to-beat contractions in spontaneously beating rat hearts under open-chest conditions simultaneous with recordings of left ventricle (LV) pressure-volume. Regional x-ray diffraction patterns were recorded from the anterior LV free wall under steady-state contractions and during acute volume loading (intravenous lactate Ringers infusion at 60 ml/h, <5 min duration) to determine the change in intensity ratio (I1,0/I1,1) and myosin interfilament spacing (d1,0). We found no significant change in end-diastolic (ED) intensity ratio, indicating that the proportion of myosin heads in proximity to actin was unchanged by fiber stretching. Intensity ratio decreased significantly more during the isovolumetric contraction phase during volume loading than under baseline contractions. A significant systolic increase in myosin head proximity to actin filaments correlated with the maximum rate of pressure increase. Hence, a reduction in interfilament spacing at end-diastole (∼0.5 nm) during stretch increased the proportion of cross-bridges activated. Furthermore, our recordings suggest that d1,0 expansion was inversely related to LV volume but was restricted during contraction and sarcomere shortening to values smaller than the maximum during isovolumetric relaxation. Since ventricular volume, and presumably sarcomere length, was found to be directly related to interfilament spacing, these findings support a role for interfilament spacing in modulating cross-bridge formation and force developed before shortening.  相似文献
