Strain Hiromi 1, a sulfur-oxidizing gammaproteobacterium was isolated from a hydrothermal vent chimney in the Okinawa Trough and represents a novel genus that may include a phylogenetic group found as endosymbionts of deep-sea gastropods. The SSU rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain Hiromi 1 and the gastropod endosymbionts was approximately 97%. The strain was shown to grow both chemolithoautotrophically and chemolithoheterotrophically with an energy metabolism of sulfur oxidation and O2 or nitrate reduction. Under chemolithoheterotrophic growth conditions, the strain utilized organic acids and proteinaceous compounds as the carbon and/or nitrogen sources but not the energy source. Various sugars did not support growth as a sole carbon source. The observation of chemolithoheterotrophy in this strain is in line with metagenomic analyses of endosymbionts suggesting the occurrence of chemolithoheterotrophy in gammaproteobacterial symbionts. Chemolithoheterotrophy and the presence of homologous genes for virulence- and quorum sensing-related functions suggest that the sulfur-oxidizing chomolithotrophic microbes seek animal bodies and microbial biofilm formation to obtain supplemental organic carbons in hydrothermal ecosystems. 相似文献

The primary purpose of this study was to test our hypothesis that the behavior of self-selecting the preferred ambient illuminance might be determined by a load error between the core temperature and its set-point. Seven female volunteers were asked to choose the preferred ambient light intensity by adjusting a rheostat from the time when they rose spontaneously in the morning to the time when they felt sleepy and retired. Rectal temperature was measured every 10 min. Their preferred ambient light intensity increased quickly and then gradually after they rose and rose to approximately 2000 lx over 3 hrs. It decreased gradually and then quickly to the time when they retired. We discussed these findings in terms of a load error between the actual core temperature and its set-point. 相似文献

Barnacle cypris larvae show high morphological variation in the organs used in search of and attaching to a substratum. This variation may represent adaptation to the habitat of the species. Here, we studied SEM level morphologies of cypris antennular sensory and attachment organs in a deep‐sea vent endemic species (Neoverruca sp.) and a vent/seep inhabiting species (Ashinkailepas seepiophila). We compare them with three species from other environments. The antennular morphologies of Neoverruca sp. and A. seepiophila were similar, which is consistent with recent molecular studies showing a close relationship of the two species. The setation pattern of the antennules was very conservative among species from various environments. In contrast, striking differences were observed in the structure of the attachment organ (the third antennular segment). Neoverruca sp. and A. seepiophila had no velum or a skirt surrounding the attachment disc on the third segment, while other cirripede cyprids almost always have either of these structures. In addition, both cyprids of A. seepiophila and Neoverruca sp. had the attachment disc angled toward the substratum, whereas it faces distally in cyprids from hard bottom inhabiting barnacles. We suggest that both velum/skirt and the angle of the attachment disc play an important role, when the antennules are contacting the substratum during surface exploration. Differences in attachment organ structures may be highly adaptive, enabling cirripede species to enter new habitats during evolution. J. The physicochemical properties of 4-substituted carbamazepine derivatives were investigated. It was elucidated that the 4-substitution is not effective in reducing the rotations (E/Z) about the N—C1′ axes around the outer carbamoyl moiety. However, the atropisomers were isolated with high stereochemical stability, meaning that the 4-substitution reduced the butterfly motion of the tricyclic ring system efficiently. The Cl/CH3-substituted carbamazepine derivatives showed greater inhibitory effects on hNav1.2 channel currents compared with carbamazepine, although no difference in the activity between enantiomers was observed. 相似文献
