To investigate ventilatory response to mild hypoxia during non-rapid-eye-movement sleep, we administered approximately 16% O2 (which corresponds to concentrations found in commercial high altitude air craft) to 12 normal subjects by using a Venturi mask, which did not alter the breathing pattern during this study. Under mild hypoxia, inspiratory minute ventilation during sleep showed an initial rapid increase (P less than 0.001) but then declined significantly (P less than 0.001) and stabilized. Stable levels differed among individuals and, compared with those measured before hypoxia, were significantly lower in some subjects, higher in one, and essentially unchanged in the others. The initial rapid increase in minute ventilation after mild hypoxia during sleep correlated with the respective values of hypoxic ventilatory response during the awake state (P less than 0.01), but the final lowered levels did not. We conclude that the ventilatory response after mild hypoxia during sleep is biphasic and hypoxic depression exerts considerable influence on ventilation under mild hypoxia during sleep. So we should take hypoxic depression into consideration to evaluate the response to hypoxia during sleep. 相似文献

Isolated microspores of Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris ssp. pekinensis) were incubated in modified NN medium containing 10% sucrose in darkness at 33°C for one day followed by culture at 25°C. After 14 days of culture, microspores developed into embryos ranging from globular to cotyledonary stage. In the acquision of counting by children, there are three interesting phenomena (Fuson et al. 1982): (1) the number word sequence produced by children can be divided into three distinct portions, called the conventional, stable nonconventional, and unstable portions; (2) irregular number words such as fifteen are omitted more often than regular ones such as fourteen, sixteen, and seventeen; and (3) initially the number word sequence is in a recitation form, rather than in the form of an associative chain of separable serial elements. Our paper at first analyzes these phenomena from the viewpoint of associative memory by assuming the number word sequences are made up of many associative relationships between the number words. This assumption is not contradictory to the third phenomenon described above, because the associative relationships are not confined only to those between the serial number words. On the basis of these anaylses, an associative network model, HAPS proposed by one of the authors (Hirai 1983), is extended so that it can mimic some aspects of the learning of sequence which involves the above three phenomena. The learning and production of sequence by the network are simulated on a digital computer, and the results show that the three phenomena can be observed in the performance of the network. 相似文献

Mycoplasma shows a variety of effects on immune system, including the activation of macrophage, the increase in T cell cytotoxicity, and the enhancement of the proliferation and maturation of B cells, etc. As it is well known that many cytokines regulate the immune system, it is interesting to examine whether or not human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) produce interleukin (IL) in response to mycoplasmas. In the present study, human PMBC were incubated with 7 species of mycoplasmas for 48 hours, and IL-1 beta, IL-2 and IL-6 activities in the supernatants were determined by ELISA. All the species of mycoplasmas were able to induce IL-1 beta and IL-6, although IL-2 was induced only by M. pneumoniae. These results suggest that the influence of mycoplasma infection on immune system may be partly due to the interleukins induced by mycoplasmas. 相似文献

Prior to rhombomere development, structures called prorhombomeres appear in the mammalian hindbrain. This study clarifies the developmental relationship between prorhombomeres and their descendent rhombomeres and hindbrain crest cells in mouse embryos by focal dye injections at various levels of prorhombomere A (proRhA), proRhB, and proRhC, as well as at their boundaries. ProRhA gives rise to two rhombomeres, rhombomeres 1 and 2 (r1 and r2), as well as to crest cells that migrate into the first pharyngeal arch, including the trigeminal ganglion. ProRhB develops into r3 and r4 and produces crest cells populating the second arch and acousticofacial ganglion. The anterior portion of proRhC gives rise to r5 and r6 and to crest cells migrating into the third pharyngeal arch and the IXth ganglion; its posterior portion develops into r7 and releases crest cells into the fourth pharyngeal arch region as well as the Xth ganglion. These results suggest that the boundaries between prorhombomeres serve as lineage restrictions for both hind-brain neuroepithelial cells and for segmental origins of crest cell populations in mouse embryos. The Hox code of the mouse head can be schematized in a much simpler way based on this prorhombomeric organization of the hind-brain, suggesting that prorhombomeres primarily underlie mammalian hind-brain segmentation. 相似文献

From a human fetal-brain cDNA library we isolated two novel genes encoding peptides containing six EGF-like repeats. Both showed significant homologies with nel, a gene strongly expressed in neural tissues of chicken. The cDNAs, designated NELL1 (nel-like, type 1) and NELL2 (nel-like, type 2), contained open reading frames encoding 810 and 816 amino acids, respectively. NELL2 is strongly expressed in brain of adult and fetus but only weakly in fetal kidney. NELL1 and NELL2 were mapped by FISH to chromosomal bands 11p15.1–p15.2 and 12q13.11–q13.12, respectively. 相似文献

We have used the promoter, 1st exon and 1st intron of the maize polyubiquitin gene (Ubi-1) for rice transformation experiments and revealed the characteristic expression of Ubi-1 gene: (1) Ubi-1 gene is not regulated systemically but rather individual cells respond independently to the heat or physical stress; (2) Ubi-1 gene changes its tissue-specific expression in response to stress treatment; (3) the expression of Ubi-1 gene is dependent on cell cycle. 相似文献
