(Compositae: Anthemideae: Anthemidinae) is described and illustrated, a full synonymy provided and its present taxonomic position discussed, especially the choice of this as the current name, and not Archanthemis marschalliana (Willd.) Lo Presti & Oberpr. The type collections of the accepted name and one synonym are compared as both honour the same person, Marschall von Bieberstein. Cultivation requirements are also outlined, with some commentary on the pests that are sometimes an issue. Doronicum caucasicum M. Bieb. (Compositae: Senecioneae) is described and illustrated for the second time in the history of Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Critical examination and reading of the works in which the protologues were published has led to the conclusion that D. caucasicum was published earlier than D. orientale Hoffm., but it is highly likely that the two names were based on the same Adams collection that Adams had annotated as Doronicum orientale. The possibility of Doronicum L. being the sole genus in the recently proposed tribe Doroniceae Panero is discussed. The lack of any present infrageneric classification is commented upon, but this is probably due to insufficient characters in the multivariate analyses used, and where the limits are drawn in molecular analyses. Cultivation and propagation guidelines for the species are provided and currently availability of cultivars is outlined, as are likely pests and diseases. 相似文献
Recent data suggest that exogenous retinoic acid (RA), the biologically active derivative of vitamin A, can induce alveolar regeneration in a rat model of experimental emphysema. Here, we describe a mouse model of disrupted alveolar development using dexamethasone administered postnatally. We show that the effects of dexamethasone are concentration dependent, dose dependent, long lasting and result in a severe loss of alveolar surface area. When RA is administered to these animals as adults, lung architecture and the surface area per unit of body weight are completely restored to normal. This remarkable effect may be because RA is required during normal alveolar development and administering RA re-awakens gene cascades used during development. We provide evidence that RA is required during alveologenesis in the mouse by showing that the levels of the retinoid binding proteins, the RA receptors and two RA synthesizing enzymes peak postnatally. Furthermore, an inhibitor of RA synthesis, disulphiram, disrupts alveologenesis. We also show that RA is required throughout life for the maintenance of lung alveoli because when rats are deprived of dietary retinol they lose alveoli and show the features of emphysema. Alveolar regeneration with RA may therefore be an important novel therapeutic approach to the treatment of respiratory diseases characterized by a reduced gas-exchanging surface area such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia and emphysema for which there are currently no treatments. 相似文献
To study the differential expression of microRNA (miRNA) profiles between intraocular medulloepithelioma (ME) and normal control tissue (CT).
Material and Methods
Total RNA was extracted from formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) intraocular ME (n=7) and from age matched ciliary body controls (n=8). The clinical history and phenotype was recorded. MiRNA profiles were determined using the Affymetrix GeneChip miRNA Arrays analyzed using expression console 1.3 software. Validation of significantly dysregulated miRNA was confimed by quantitaive real-time PCR. The web-based DNA Intelligent Analysis (DIANA)-miRPath v2.0 was used to perform enrichment analysis of differentially expressed (DE) miRNA gene targets in Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway.
Results
The pathologic evaluation revealed one benign (benign non-teratoid, n=1) and six malignant tumors (malignant teratoid, n=2; malignant non-teratoid, n = 4). A total of 88 miRNAs were upregulated and 43 miRNAs were downregulated significantly (P<0.05) in the tumor specimens. Many of these significantly dysregulated miRNAs were known to play various roles in carcinogenesis and tumor behavior. RT-PCR validated three significantly upregulated miRNAs and three significantly downregulated miRNAs namely miR-217, miR-216a, miR-216b, miR-146a, miR-509-3p and miR-211. Many DE miRNAs that were significant in ME tumors showed dysregulation in retinoblastoma, glioblastoma, and precursor, normal and reactive human cartilage. Enriched pathway analysis suggested a significant association of upregulated miRNAs with 15 pathways involved in prion disease and several types of cancer. The pathways involving significantly downregulated miRNAs included the toll-like receptor (TLR) (p<4.36E-16) and Nuclear Factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathways (p<9.00E-06).
Conclusions
We report significantly dysregulated miRNAs in intraocular ME tumors, which exhibited abnormal profiles in other cancers as well such as retinoblastoma and glioblastoma. Pathway analysis of all dysregulated miRNAs shared commonalities with other cancer pathways. 相似文献
Microsomal membranes were prepared from etiolated pea (Pisum sativum L.) epicotyls and used to form nascent [Uronic acid-14C]pectin. The enzyme products were characterized by selective enzymic degradation, gel permeation chromatography and analysis of cellulose binding properties. The product obtained had a molecular weight of around 40 kDa, which was significantly lower than that of nascent [Gal-14C]pectin prepared from the same tissues. It is composed mainly of polygalacturonan and perhaps also rhamnogalacturonan (RG-I). Evidence was obtained for the presence of a protein attached to the nascent [Uronic acid-14C]pectin, but it was unaffected by endoglucanase and did not bind to cellulose. Hence, no xyloglucan appeared to be attached to the nascent [Uronic acid-14C]pectin. A model is proposed in which xyloglucan is attached to nascent pectin after formation of homogalacturonan, but before the pectin leaves the Golgi apparatus. 相似文献
Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L) is one of the wide cultivated plants with a narrow genetic base, hence the interest in prospecting, rescuing, and characterizing germplasm of this species is continuously carried out. In this work, eleven microsatellite markers were used to assess the genetic diversity and population structure of 68 Algerian peanut accessions originated from four geographic regions in the north and south of Algeria. A total of 83 alleles were amplified with a mean number of 7.545 alleles per locus and polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.625 to 0.874. The observed and expected heterozygosity varied from 0.31 to 1.00 and from 0.61 to 0.84 with a mean of 0.704 and 0.732, respectively. Genetic structure analysis showed a strong population at K?=?2, separating accessions according to their subspecies affiliation (hypogeae ssp. and fastigiata ssp.). It was also able to quantify the genetic correlations between genotypes using principal component analysis (PCA) and the method of groups of unweighted pairings with arithmetic means (UPGMA). Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed high genetic variation within individuals (90.7%) and low genetic differentiation between subspecies (10.3%) and among populations (8.9%) from different geographical origin. Genetic diversity analysis in this study provides useful information for the exploration and utilization of these peanut cultivars.
