This study is concerned with the application of a possible form of a strain-energy function suitable for soft biological tissues. Two problems considered here are related to simultaneous extension and inflation of cylindrical arteries, and inflation of the left ventricle under a given internal pressure. The values of the material constants are obtained via comparison of theoretical results with experimental findings. Some details concerning the wall stresses and the elastic stiffness are also given in the paper. For each case, it is seen that experiment and theory are in good agreement.  相似文献

The essential role of 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) in plant tissue culture has been widely known; however, physiological and biochemical mechanisms behind BA requirement have not been fully understood yet. BA may have an important role on callus growth by regulating antioxidant enzyme activities and acting as an effective free radical scavenger. To test this hypothesis, the impact of exogenous BA concentrations on antioxidative system in Vitis vinifera L. cv. ‘Bogazkere’ callus was investigated under in vitro conditions. Relative fresh weight growth (RFWG) of calli, total phenolics (TP) content, endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), proline concentrations, percentage of electrolyte leakage (EL), and some of the antioxidant enzyme activities; such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), and guaiacol peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) were measured. Inhibitory effect of high concentrations of BA on antioxidant enzyme activities and RFWG was found. In the presence of BA at 0.1 mg L−1, SOD, POD, and APX activities decreased, while CAT activity increased in comparison with the controls. Exogenous BA treatments higher than 0.1 mg L−1 resulted in an increase in cellular TP, H2O2, MDA, proline contents, and percentage of EL, while RFWG of calli decreased. Based on the findings, it may be concluded that only 0.1 mg L−1 BA concentration combined with NAA could play a direct role in reducing the level of free radicals and phenolic production associated with proliferation capacity of grape cells under in vitro conditions. Furthermore, cytokinin was effective in the antioxidative enzyme system, lipid peroxidation, and electrolyte leakage.  相似文献

Neuroprosthesis research aims to enable communication between the brain and external assistive devices while restoring lost functionality such as occurs from stroke, spinal cord injury or neurodegenerative diseases. In future closed-loop sensorimotor prostheses, one approach is to use neuromodulation as direct stimulus to the brain to compensate for a lost sensory function and help the brain to integrate relevant information for commanding external devices via, e.g. movement intention. Current neuromodulation techniques rely mainly of electrical stimulation. Here we focus specifically on the question of eliciting a biomimetically relevant sense of touch by direct stimulus of the somatosensory cortex by introducing optogenetic techniques as an alternative to electrical stimulation. We demonstrate that light activated opsins can be introduced to target neurons in the somatosensory cortex of non-human primates and be optically activated to create a reliably detected sensation which the animal learns to interpret as a tactile sensation localized within the hand. The accomplishment highlighted here shows how optical stimulation of a relatively small group of mostly excitatory somatosensory neurons in the nonhuman primate brain is sufficient for eliciting a useful sensation from data acquired by simultaneous electrophysiology and from behavioral metrics. In this first report to date on optically neuromodulated behavior in the somatosensory cortex of nonhuman primates we do not yet dissect the details of the sensation the animals exerience or contrast it to those evoked by electrical stimulation, issues of considerable future interest.  相似文献

(99m)Tc-hexamethyl-propylenamine-oxime ((99m)Tc-HMPAO)-labelled leukocytes have been used in standard diagnostic procedures for the detection of infection and inflammation. Although some investigators have already pointed out that labelling of leukocytes with (99m)Tc-HMPAO has detrimental effects on the cells, still very little is known regarding the effects of ionizing radiation on lymphocyte function. The effects of (99m)Tc-HMPAO-labelling on lymphocyte adhesion, proliferation, mitotic index, migration and apoptosis were evaluated. The lymphoblastoid cell line NC-NC was used as the lymphocyte population. (99m)Tc-HMPAO-labelling decreased cell adhesion, proliferation, mitotic index and motility, whereas it induced apoptosis and cell-cycle arrest. The rate of decrease in cell proliferation was up to 70% (P<0.001) by day 4 after labelling. (99m)Tc-HMPAO-labelling led a 35% decrease (P<0.001) in adhesion ability of the cells on fibronectin at 16h. Using the Boyden chamber motility assay, it was shown that both spontaneous and monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP-1)-induced lymphocyte motility were strongly reduced by (99m)Tc-HMPAO-labelling. The decrease in motility was approximately five-fold (P<0.05). In addition, a 12-fold increase (P<0.05) was observed in apoptosis of the (99m)Tc-HMPAO-treated cells compared with control cells. Besides, it was shown that cell-cycle arrest was induced starting from the 3rd day after treatment with (99m)Tc-HMPAO. Our observations indicate that (99m)Tc-HMPAO-labelling has damaging effects on lymphocyte function including cell adhesion, proliferation, mitotic index, motility and cell cycle under in vitro conditions.  相似文献

The accuracy of risk prediction for coronary artery disease can be improved with the use of novel molecular or genetic biomarkers. In this study, we investigated the difference of five selected microRNAs (miR or miRNA) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and controls, assessed by coronary angiography. The study population consisted of 85 subjects, aged between 18 and 75 years and underwent invasive coronary angiography. Subjects with more than 30% stenosis in at least one coronary artery, patients with a history of prior percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary by-pass surgery were allocated to the patient group; whereas the subjects without at least 30% stenosis consisted the control group. Groups were similar in age, presence of hypertension, and smoking status. However, the proportion of males and subjects taking angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers, beta blockers, nitrates, and statins were higher in the patient group. miR-221 and miR-155 were downregulated (P = .02 and .001, respectively), while miR-21 levels were significantly increased (P = .003) in the patient group compared to controls. Changes in miR-145 and miR-126 did not reach statistical significance (P > .05). miRNA- 21, miR-155, and miR-221 were differentially expressed between the patients and controls. miRNAs are promising biomarkers for CAD diagnosis, however, this requires further research with larger groups.  相似文献

Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) was used to isolate mutants of Lactococcus lactis LAC275, an indicator strain in GFPuv nisin bioassay. It harbors the GFPuv encoding gene under the nisA promoter and the nisin signal transduction nisRK genes whereby nisin concentration can be correlated to GFPuv fluorescence. The sorted L. lactis cells, which showed higher fluorescence intensities at low inducer concentration, were analysed for higher responsiveness to low concentration of nisin. Two strains showed lower detection limits (0.2 pg ml−1) for nisin than the parent strain (10 pg ml−1). This showed that mutants of LAC275 could successfully be isolated using FACS.  相似文献
