The esterified and unesterified sterol fractions of bee-gathered mixed pollens were examined, and total sterol composition was determined. Two new sterols of pollens, 14α-methyl-9β,19-cyclo-5α-cholest-24-en-3β-ol (24-dehydropollinastanol) and 14α-methyl-5α-ergost-24(28)-en-3β-ol (24-methylenepollinastanol) were isolated and identified. Both sterols were found primarily in the esterified sterol fraction, and 24-methylenepollinastanol accounted for 43% of the sterols of this fraction. 24-Dehydropollinastanol and four other sterols which also contain a 9β,19-cyclopropane ring were found only in the esterified sterol fraction. 24-Methylenecholesterol was the major sterol of the unesterified sterol fraction.  相似文献

Summary Phosphorus in soils from plantation of red pine (Pinus resinosa Ait.) was determined using six extractants: 0.002N H2SO4 (pH 3.0); 0.025N HCl+ +0.03N NH4F; 0.5N NaHCO3 (pH 8.5);N NH4OAc (pH 4.8); anion exchange resin (Dower –2, Cl-form); H2O. Correlations of extractable P with Al- and Al-+Fe-P indicated that these fractions are the dominant forms of inorganic P in most of the soils.Uptake of P by corn and Monterey pine seedlings grown in greenhouse culture was correlated with soil P extracted by the different methods. The most successful of the extractants for predicting P uptake was resin extractable P; the simple correlation coefficients were 0.811 and 0.609 for pine and corn respectively. P uptake by pine correlated significantly with 0.002N H2SO4 P (r=0.679),N NH4OAc P (r=0.443), H2O P (r=0.549) and Al-+Fe-P (r=0.532) while P uptake by corn correlated with 0.002N H2SO4 P (r=0.579), H2O P (r=0.477) and organic P (r=0.460). Per cent P in pine seedling tops correlated significantly with 0.002N H2SO4, resin andN NH4 OAc extractable P. The absolute configurations of isoflavans and isoflavanquinones isolated from Cyclolobium, Dalbergia and Machaerium species were established by comparison of their ORD curves with that of (3S)-5,7,3′,4′-tetra-methoxyisoflavan and (3S)-7,4′-dimethoxyisoflavan-2′,5′-quinone, respectively. The assignments were checked by the ozonolysis of the isoflavan (?)-duartin to (R)-paraconic acid and the oxidation of isoflavans to isoflavanquinones. The PMR spectra of the dihydropyran ring of the isoflavans are discussed in terms of the preferred conformation of this ring.  相似文献

Serum estradiol (E2), testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) were measured in juvenile (pre-pubertal) male rhesus monkeys injected with either 8 mg or 80 mg of testosterone propionate (TP). After one week, the three steroids were elevated and remained essentially unchanged for the duration of the study. There was little difference in serum E2 or DHT when comparing the two groups of steroid-treated monkeys. In contrast, T levels were consistently greater in the animals given the high dosage of TP.  相似文献

The effects of metabolic inactivation of spleen cells on antigen presentation to precursors of alloreactive cytolytic T lymphocytes (Tc) were examined. By serological methods, populations inactivated by ultraviolet irradiation, glutaraldehyde fixation or plasma membrane isolation were found to retain normal levels of H-2K/D and Ia antigens. However, comparison of the antigen doses required to stimulate secondary Tc responses in mixed leukocyte culture showed that the inactivated preparations were approximately 10-fold less immunogenic than X-irradiated spleen cells. Their total inability to stimulate primary cytolytic responses pointed to at least a 100-fold impairment of immunogenicity for unprimed Tc precursors in the case of uv-irradiated and glutaraldehyde-treated stimulator cells, and at least a 10-fold impairment for membrane fragments. Experiments showing that the capacity of cell monolayers to absorb precursor Tc from unprimed spleen populations was reduced following uv-irradiation or glutaraldehyde treatment provided direct evidence that this loss of immunogenicity was due in part to suboptimal antigen presentation to precursor Tc. It is concluded that, in addition to the traditional view that these treatments damage the “LD” signal to helper T lymphocytes, metabolic inactivation also impairs recognition of “CD” determinants by precursor Tc.  相似文献

Characterization of a Salmonellatyphmurium mutant strain (TA98/1,8-DNP6) resistant to the mutagenicity of nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitroarenes) revealed that it was also non-responsive to the mutagenic action of nitroso- and N-hydroxylaminoarenes. The mutant strain was fully sensitive to the mutagenic action of the corresponding hydroxamic acid ester. These results suggest that TA98/1,8-DNP6 is deficient in a specific esterifying enzyme and that esterification of the penultimate mutagenic metabolites of nitro- and aminoarenes (e.g., arylhydroxylamines) to form potent electrophiles is controlled by a specific gene.  相似文献

Natural abundance 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy identified the disaccharide trehalose as the major organic osmolyte synthesized by Escherichia coli grown in continuous culture under nitrogen limitation in the presence of 0.5 M-NaCl. Trehalose accumulation was dependent on both the growth phase of the culture and the osmolality of the growth medium, but independent of the solute used to increase the osmolality as long as the solute was non-penetrant. The penetrant solute glycerol did not induce trehalose synthesis indicating that the loss of cell turgor rather than increasing medium osmolality per se was the mechanism stimulating trehalose synthesis. Under conditions of either carbon or nitrogen limitation osmoadaptation was distinctly biphasic. The initial response consisted of a rapid (within 30 min) accumulation of K+ and a concurrent synthesis of the amino acid glutamate; trehalose synthesis occurred during the second slower phase of osmoadaption. Chloramphenicol severely inhibited trehalose accumulation indicating that the enzyme(s) involved in trehalose synthesis were inducible.  相似文献

A number of group A streptococcal isolates have been compared for their nonimmune reactivity with each human IgG subclass, and rabbit, pig, or horse IgG. The results obtained demonstrate considerable heterogeneity in the expression of type II IgG-binding proteins among and within group A isolates. Extraction and analysis of type II IgG-binding proteins from selected strains demonstrate the existence of five functionally distinct IgG-binding proteins. The type IIo IgG binding protein displayed the greatest range of reactivities, binding to all four human IgG subclasses, and rabbit, pig, and horse IgG. A variant of this protein, designated type II'o, bound all four human subclasses and rabbit IgG, but failed to react with pig or horse IgG. A type IIa protein was recovered from certain group A strains which bound human IgG1, IgG2, IgG4, as well as reacting with rabbit, pig, and horse IgG. A functionally related type IIc activity that displayed all of the reactivities of the type IIa protein but did not bind with human IgG2 was also identified. The final functional form of group A IgG-binding protein, the type IIb protein, bound exclusively to human IgG3. Comparison of these functionally different type II IgG-binding proteins demonstrated no simple structure-function relationship. These studies underscore the heterogeneity of type II Ig-binding proteins expressed by different group A streptococci and document that a single strain can change its pattern of expression of type II IgG-binding protein both quantitatively and qualitatively.  相似文献
