Objective
HbA1c is associated with cardiovascular risk in persons without diabetes and cardiovascular risk accumulates over the life course. Therefore, insight in factors determining HbA1c from childhood onwards is important. We investigated (lifestyle) determinants of HbA1c at age 12 years and the effects of growth on change in HbA1c and the tracking of HbA1c between the age of 8 and 12 years.Study Design and Methods
Anthropometric measurements were taken and HbA1c levels were assessed in 955 children without diabetes aged around 12 years participating in the PIAMA birth cohort study. In 363 of these children HbA1c was also measured at age 8 years. Data on parents and children were collected prospectively by questionnaires.Results
We found no significant association between known risk factors for diabetes and HbA1c at age 12 years. Mean(SD) change in HbA1c between ages 8 and 12 years was 0.6(0.7) mmol/mol per year (or 0.1(0.1) %/yr). Anthropometric measures at age 8 and their change between age 8 and 12 years were not associated with the change in HbA1c. 68.9% of the children remained in the same quintile or had an HbA1c one quintile higher or lower at age 8 years compared to age 12 years.Conclusion
The lack of association between known risk factors for diabetes and HbA1c suggest that HbA1c in children without diabetes is relatively unaffected by factors associated with glycaemia. HbA1c at age 8 years is by far the most important predictor of HbA1c at age 12. Therefore, the ranking of HbA1c levels appear to be fairly stable over time. 相似文献102.

The dendritic cells (DC) of mouse lymph nodes (LN) were isolated, analyzed for surface markers, and compared with those of spleen. Low to moderate staining of LN DC for CD4 and low staining for CD8 was shown to be attributable to pickup of these markers from T cells. Excluding this artifact, five LN DC subsets could be delineated. They included the three populations found in spleen (CD4(+)8(-)DEC-205(-), CD4(-)8(-)DEC-205(-), CD4(-)8(+)DEC-205(+)), although the CD4-expressing DC were of low incidence. LN DC included two additional populations, characterized by relatively low expression of CD8 but moderate or high expression of DEC-205. Both appeared among the DC migrating out of skin into LN, but only one was restricted to skin-draining LN and was identified as the mature form of epidermal Langerhans cells (LC). The putative LC-derived DC displayed the following properties: large size; high levels of class II MHC, which persisted to some extent even in CIITA null mice; expression of very high levels of DEC-205 and of CD40; expression of many myeloid surface markers; and no expression of CD4 and only low to moderate expression of CD8. The onychopod cladoceran Cercopagis that recently invaded the Baltic Sea is reported from new zones of the northern Baltic proper. Because of successful survival and an expanding distribution range, the addition of Cercopagis to the Baltic fauna is considered to be permanent. What has previously been cited as Cercopagis pengoi encompasses the morphology of several other species, subspecies and forms. Either a number of morphologically similar species is present, or there is a number of spurious species in Cercopagis. The last hypothesis is favoured. The spatial distribution pattern of Cercopagis, as well as that of total zooplankton, was correlated with depth. Deep (>100 m) and shallow (<10 m) stations had significantly lower abundance than stations of intermediate depth (<100 m). An overview of the distribution of C. pengoi group in fresh and brackish waters suggests a high tolerance to environmental factors, but with differences among taxa. Due to this ecological flexibility, the colonization of the Baltic is not unexpected. Increasing salinity may restrict dispersal of cercopagids to the southern areas of the Baltic and to the North Sea, but inland lakes (e.g. in Sweden) present an ecological profile suitable for colonization. 相似文献

Reversed sexual dimorphism (RSD) may be related to different roles in breeding investment and/or foraging, but little information
is available on foraging ecology. We studied the foraging behaviour and parental investment by male and female masked boobies,
a species with RSD, by combining studies of foraging ecology using miniaturised activity and GPS data loggers of nest attendance,
with an experimental study where flight costs were increased. Males attended the chick more often than females, but females
provided more food to the chick than males. Males and females foraged during similar periods of the day, had similar prey
types and sizes, diving depths, durations of foraging trips, foraging zones and ranges. Females spent a smaller proportion
of the foraging trip sitting on the water and had higher diving rate than males, suggesting higher foraging effort by females.
In females, trip duration correlated with mass at departure, suggesting a flexible investment through control by body mass.
The experimental study showed that handicapped females and female partners of handicapped males lost mass compared to control
birds, whereas there was no difference for males. These results indicate that the larger female is the main provisioner of
the chick in the pair, and regulates breeding effort in relation to its own body mass, whereas males have a fixed investment.
The different breeding investment between the sexes is associated with contrasting foraging strategies, but no clear niche
differentiation was observed. The larger size of the females may be advantageous for provisioning the chick with large quantities
of energy and for flexible breeding effort, while the smaller male invests in territory defence and nest guarding, a crucial
task when breeding at high densities. In masked boobies, division of labour appears to be maximal during chick rearing—the
most energy-demanding period—and may be related to evolution of RSD. 相似文献

Oxydative cyclization of lapachol was attempted by feeding this compound into the culture broth of Beauveria sulfurescens and two ionophore-producing strains of Streptomyces albus and Streptomyces griseus. As a result, three compounds were obtained, lomatiol, lomatic acid and lomatiol acetate, only with B. sulfurescens and S. albus.
