Einfluß von Epicoccum nigrum,Alternaria alternata,Mucor racemosus und Ulocladium chartarum auf die Protozoenpopulation im Pansen des Rindes (in vitro)

The influence of moulded hay (Alternaria alternata, Epicoccum nigrum, Mucor racemosus, Ulocladium chartarum) and the efficiency of Vitamin B1 substitution to cope these effects on rumen protozoa was investigated using the longterm rumen simulation technique (RUSITEC) for about 25 days. Moulded hay affected medium-sized protozoa to a different extent (Alternaria alternata: ?16 %, Epicoccum nigrum: ?27 %, Mucor racemosus: ?9 %, Ulocladium chartarum: +2 %). The vitamin B1 substitution had positive effects during the feeding of Mucor racemosus and Ulocladium chartarum.     

Molecular basis for ATP/2,3-bisphosphoglycerate control switch-over (poikilotherm/homeotherm) an intermediate amino-acid sequence in the hemoglobin of the great Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis, Perissodactyla)

The complete primary structure of the two hemoglobin components of the Great Indian Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) is presented. The ratio for the two components B(alpha 2 beta I2): A(alpha 2 beta II2) is 6:4. Polypeptide subunits were separated by chromatography on CM-cellulose in a buffer containing 8M urea. The sequence was studied by degradation of the tryptic and hydrolytic cleavage products in a liquid phase sequencer. At position beta NA2 component B has Asp, whereas component A has Glu, an ATP-binding site in fish and reptilian hemoglobins. The other phosphate binding sites i.e. beta NA1 Val, beta EF6 Lys and beta H21 His are identical with 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate-(DPG)binding sites in mammalian hemoglobins, whereby rhinoceros hemoglobin resembles both ATP-sensitive poikilotherm hemoglobin and DPG-sensitive mammalian hemoglobin. The two components (beta I/beta II) additionally differ by exchange of Glu----Gly at position beta A3 and Gln----Lys at position beta GH3. The significance of these changes is discussed. Oxygenation properties of the two hemoglobins components and their dependence on ATP and DPG are given. The structure and function of Rhinoceros hemoglobin may give an insight into the evolution of the organic phosphate binding in vertebrate hemoglobins.     

Moniliformin,deoxynivalenol, 3Acetyldeoxynivalenol and zearalenone — Mycotoxins associated with corn cob fusariosis in Poland

An isolated rat liver was perfused with deoxynivalenol (DON) at a dose of 3 mg in a recirculating perfusion system. To identify glucuronide conjugates equal amounts of bile samples, perfusate and liver homogenates were incubated with and without (control) a β-glucuronidase preparation and analyzed by thin layer chromatography and capillary gas liquid chromatography — chemical ionization mass spectrometry. A total of 40.4% of the administered dose of DON was found to be conjugated with glucuronic acid (perfusate 20.4%, bile 19.2%, liver 0.8%), while only 1.3% of the parent DON (perfusate 1.1%, bile 0.2%) was detected. The cleavage of DON-glucuronide was demonstrated by incubating DON-glucuronide containing bile samples with intestine contents under anaerobic conditions.     

Autonomous DNA binding domains of lambda integrase recognize two different sequence families

The 40 kd lambda Integrase protein is shown to contain two autonomous DNA binding domains with different sequence specificities. Competition experiments in which the binding activity of Int is assayed through nuclease protection demonstrate the functional independence of the two DNA recognition specificities. Proteolytic cleavage of Int and footprinting analysis of the resulting two major peptides allow the physical separation and identification of two DNA binding domains: an amino-terminal peptide that interacts with "arm-type" sites and a carboxy-terminal peptide that binds to "core-type" sequences. In addition, the data suggest that the two domains can bind DNA simultaneously, consistent with a model in which Integrase would link two disparate DNA sequences.     

Fat production byTrichoderma reesei

Summary Snake flask experiments were carried out as a preliminary study of fat formation byTrichoderma reesei (formallyviride) QM 9123 using a glucose based medium. The maximum quantity of fat production was 16% of the dry weight. The pH of the medium, as much as its composition, appeared to influence the quantity of fat that was produced. The fatty acids formed by the hydrolysis of the fats were found to be mainly unsaturated, with the 182 (linoleic) acid predominating.     

Morphology and Taxonomy of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Apristurus longicephahis</Emphasis> (Lamniformes,Seyliorhinidae)

Data on the individual variation and changes with growth in proportions and morphology are presented for the poorly known Apristurus longicephalus, and compared with those of other species. A. longicephalus is concluded to be a distinct species without synonyms, characterized by its long snout, widely separate nostrils, long caudal fin, short abdomen, very sparse teeth, and low number of monospondylous vertebrae. It is a species of small size, maturing at about 42 cm in total length.
