Long‐term population studies on large mammals are rare. Here, we have examined the threatened scimitar‐horned oryx, addax and dama gazelle's populations over the last 20 years in Bou Hedma National Park. Using monthly count data of the three studied species collected since 1995, we examined their population trends. Using autocorrelation analyses, we discovered endogenous natural cyclical fluctuations in the numbers of each species, with a periodicity of approximately 3 years. For all three studied species which seem to be opportunistic breeders, births and deaths occurred throughout the year, although with notable seasonality. By means of cross‐correlation, we discovered that during the first 7 years for which data were available, addax numbers were positively correlated with those of dama and inversely correlated with numbers of oryx. This pattern reversed during the following 4‐year period. The number of oryx was negatively correlated with dama during the first 4 years and then became positively correlated during the subsequent 7‐year period. Thus, we draw attention to difference in response to environmental and anthropogenic factors. Incorporating fundamental long‐term population data into developing management approaches, especially for potentially competitive species, is vital for their future long‐term survival and the success of conservation actions.  相似文献

Table olive processing wastewaters constitute a dangerous environmental problem in the Mediterranean countries because of their large volumes, high organic matter and salt concentration. The quantity and the characteristics of wastewaters produced, and thus, their environmental impact, varied depending on the season, varieties, soil and process employed. Several chemicals, biological and combined technologies have proven effective at bringing down organic pollution and toxicity of these effluents. Advanced oxidation processes have recognized as highly efficient treatments for the degradation of organic matter. Nonetheless, complete mineralization is generally expensive without salt removal. Biological processes are the most environmentally compatible and least-expensive treatment methods, but these operations do not always provide satisfactory results. This article surveys the current available technologies and suggests an effective, cheaper alternative for the recycling and the valorization of green table olives wastewaters.  相似文献

Ramadan is considered to be the month of the stomach break. It has been reported that Ramadan has some health benefits. In most Muslims countries, there is a huge modification in the diet during this month. These changes could induce some gastrointestinal (GI) disorders (e.g. diarrhea, cramps, fullness, nausea). The aims of the present overview were to present some challenges that could be observed for athletes during the training sessions or competition and present some practical recommendations to avoid GI disorders during Ramadan. Based on previous studies, we could advance that the prevalence of GI disorders will be more pronounced when athletes travel for international competitions during Ramadan. Besides, GI disorders are more frequent for athletes when there is a huge modification in the training load. Dehydration observed during Ramadan is one of the factors that may induce GI disorders. The latter could be exacerbated by sweat loss during training sessions. Carbohydrate is frequently used by athletes to improve performance and is associated with some GI disorders. Therefore, during Ramadan, coaches and athletes should be advised to maintain the same diet and a good hydration as before the fasting month, and avoid air travel when preparing for competitions.  相似文献

The climate warming reduction needs an approach based on a regulator element which links the ecological and economical goals. The ecosystem services have become less effective because the production of water and CO2 are faster than recycling it in biomass. The produced water with CO2, during the oxidation of organic carbon thanks to the chemical reduction of oxygen, is often neglected and not mentioned by the scientific community. The water volume that results from the burning of fossil fuels increases annually with CO2 emissions and is higher than thousands of billions of tons. This water increase affects water vapour levels and induces the risk of great floods and sea level rising. We suggest an ecolonomical (ecology and economy) integrative concept based on the use of oxygen, as a regulator, which links the burning of fuels that generate water and fossil CO2 to photosynthesis that regenerates oxygen and biomass essential for our life. The ecolonomical quantitative rule claims that the oxygen users such as transportation services, manufacturers and power plants must pay those who produce it such as forest, agriculture and urban vegetation. The application of this rule should induce the restoring of natural ecosystems and agricultural practices thanks to the link between the urban services and the rural services.  相似文献
