Summary The microproblematicumPycnoporidium ? eomesozoicum Flügel, 1972, from Upper Triassic reefs of the Alpine-Mediterranean region, Turkey Oman and Iran (originally interpreted as possible alga) represents the type species of a new strophomenid brachiopod genus (Gosaukammerella n.g.). The genus is characterized by a very small, millimeter-sized plano-convex shell, whose ventral valve is attached to the substratum (mainly sponges) by symmetrically arranged outgrowths developing from a pseudopunctate, lamellose foliated shell wall and composed of densely spaced subparallel ‘tubes’ comparable with productide spines secreted by papillose extensions of the mantle.Gosaukammerella seems to be the only reliable candidate for the existence of post-Paleozoic strophomenid (productid ?) brachiopods. Gosaukammerella eomesozoica is restricted to possibly cryptic, shaded reef environments inhabited predominantly by sponges serving as substrates for micromorphic brachiopods.  相似文献

Seven GATC sites that are nonmethylated in logarithmic growth phase cells using glycerol as a carbon source were isolated from the Escherichia coli chromosome. Three of these GATC sites are located upstream of the operons gut, mtl, and ppiA, whereas DNA sequences adjacent to three other nonmethylated GATC sites are not homologous to previously identified genes. The seventh nonmethylated GATC site is located downstream of uspA. The protection of this site from DNA methylation requires leucine-responsive regulatory protein and is leucine responsive. The carbon source and the growth phase influenced the protection of the GATC site 5' of the ppiA gene. The other five sites were protected under all the environmental conditions examined.  相似文献

After sublethal doses of ionizing radiation, rat Peyer's patch lymphocytes regenerated significantly more slowly than lymphocytes from spleen, thymus, and peripheral lymph nodes. Long Evans rats were exposed to 150 rad (40 rad/min) of whole-body irradiation from a 60Co, gamma-emitting source. On Days 1-20 postirradiation, single cell suspensions of lymphocytes from thymus, spleen, peripheral lymph nodes, and Peyer's patches were stained with mouse monoclonal antibody reagents specific for rat lymphocyte subpopulations (Ia+ cells, non-helper T-cell subsets, and helper T-cell subsets). Cells were then counterstained with Texas Red-conjugated, goat anti-mouse IgG and, at the same time, were also stained with fluorescein diacetate to determine viable lymphocytes. The stained lymphocytes were analyzed using a dual-laser, fluorescent-activated cell sorter (Becton-Dickinson FACS-II) from which the percentage of each lymphocyte subpopulation was determined. From our studies, we found that all subpopulations of lymphocytes were affected similarly by irradiation. In addition, we observed that viable lymphocyte subpopulation in thymus, spleen, and peripheral lymph nodes from irradiated animals returned to normal (nonirradiated control animals) levels 5-12 days postirradiation, while viable lymphocyte subpopulations in Peyer's patches from irradiated animals remained suppressed up to 20 days postirradiation. These results suggest that either the lymphocytes or, more likely, the microenvironment of Peyer's patches is more greatly damaged by ionizing radiation than that observed in other lymphoid tissue.  相似文献

Hyperalphalipoproteinemia, characterized by increased plasma concentrations of apoA-I and of HDL lipid and protein, was observed in rats treated with triiodothyronine (T(3)) for 7 days. The increase in the plasma HDL apoproteins was general for apoC, apoE plus A-IV, and apoA-I, as determined by isoelectric focusing. Hypotriglyceridemia, characterized by decreased concentrations of VLDL and apoB, was also observed in the hyperthyroid state. Although in the mildly hypothyroid animals (propylthiouracil-treated), hepatic metabolism of free fatty acid is shifted toward esterification to triglyceride and VLDL formation, as we reported previously, plasma HDL and apoA-I concentrations were not different from control plasma values, while the d 1.006-1.063 g/ml (IDL + LDL) lipoprotein fraction tended to be increased. In general, the proportion of apoE in the (IDL + LDL) fraction of the hypothyroid rat was greater than in controls and hyperthyroid animals, while the proportion of apoE tended to be lower in VLDL from both hypo- and hyperthyroid rats than in VLDL from controls. An enhanced release of apoA-I by perfused livers isolated from rats treated with T(3) was also observed; this enhanced output of apoA-I may explain, in part, the hyperalphalipoproteinemia observed in these rats. The depressed net output of apoA-I in vitro by perfused livers from rats treated with propylthiouracil (PTU) was not expressed in a statistically significant diminished plasma concentration of HDL or apoA-I in the intact animals. Treatment with T(3) also resulted in modification of the content of essential fatty acids in various lipid classes. Linoleic acid residues were significantly reduced and arachidonic acid content was increased in plasma phospholipids and esterified cholesterol in T(3)-treated rats. However, the relative fatty acid composition of unesterified fatty acids and triglyceride fatty acids was not altered by T(3) treatment. PTU treatment had no effect on fatty acid distribution in any of the plasma lipids. Secretion of biliary lipids was increased in perfused livers from T(3)-treated rats, while treatment with PTU did not affect release of lipids in the bile. With the use of monospecific rabbit anti-G protein and mouse monoclonal anti-H-2Kk, we have analyzed the spatial relationship of the serologically defined H-2Kk antigens and the major surface glycoprotein (G protein) of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) to those antigens recognized by B10.A (k, d) anti-VSV cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). The ability of monoclonal anti-H-2Kk or rabbit anti-G protein to inhibit specifically the cytolytic activity of B10.A anti-VSV CTLs indicates that the G protein and the H-2Kk molecules are in close proximity to the viral and H-2Kk antigens recognized by the anti-VSV (CTLs. Summary Intercellular junctions in the uterine epithelium of the ovoviviparous urodele Salamandra salamandra were studied in pregnant and non-pregnant females by freeze-fracture technique. Junctional complexes consist of zonulae occludentes (tight junctions) and numerous maculae adhaerentes (desmosomes); z. adhaerentes and nexuses (gap junctions) could not be identified. Tight junctions are of the flexible type exhibiting loosely interconnected fibrils. The fibrillary network appears stretched more often in pregnant females possibly due to the mechanical stress of pregnancy. The structure and occurrence of the junctions identified, especially that of the tight junctions, is discussed with regard to the functions of the uterus during pregnancy.Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe der Gefrierbruchtechnik wurden im Uterus-epithel trächtiger und nichtträchtiger Feuersalamanderweibchen (Salamandra salamandra) Zonulae occludentes und Maculae adhaerentes, jedoch keine Z. adhaerentes sowie Nexus identifiziert. Die Z. occludentes sind flexibel. Ihr fibrilläres Netzwerk ist bei trächtigen Weibchen öfter gestreckt; das ist möglicherweise auf die stärkere Ausdehnung des Uterusgewebes während der Trächtigkeit zurückzuführen. Das Vorkommen der verschiedenen Kontakt-strukturen, namentlich das der Z. occludentes, wird im Hinblick auf die Funktionen des Uterus während der Trächtigkeit diskutiert.We are indebted to Mrs. K.
