When humans age, changes in body composition arise along with lifestyle‐associated disorders influencing fitness and physical decline. Here we provide a comprehensive view of dietary intake, physical activity, gut microbiota (GM), and host metabolome in relation to physical fitness of 207 community‐dwelling subjects aged +65 years. Stratification on anthropometric/body composition/physical performance measurements (ABPm) variables identified two phenotypes (high/low‐fitness) clearly linked to dietary intake, physical activity, GM, and host metabolome patterns. Strikingly, despite a higher energy intake high‐fitness subjects were characterized by leaner bodies and lower fasting proinsulin‐C‐peptide/blood glucose levels in a mechanism likely driven by higher dietary fiber intake, physical activity and increased abundance of Bifidobacteriales and Clostridiales species in GM and associated metabolites (i.e., enterolactone). These factors explained 50.1% of the individual variation in physical fitness. We propose that targeting dietary strategies for modulation of GM and host metabolome interactions may allow establishing therapeutic approaches to delay and possibly revert comorbidities of aging.  相似文献

Bell Pepper (Capsicum annuum) is one of the important vegetable crops with valuable food sources, which is used almost around the world. Crown and root rot disease caused by Phytophthora capsici is one of the most important diseases of bell pepper in Iran. The present study was conducted to evaluate the susceptibility of different varieties of bell pepper to crown and root rot disease under glasshouse condition. Fourteen commonly planted genotypes of bell pepper in Iran were evaluated for their susceptibility to infection with the pathogen. For this purpose, disease severity of the chosen genotypes in different growth stages was evaluated. The results indicated that the bell pepper genotypes respond differently to pathogenicity tests. Based on cluster analyses confirmed by the results of SAS analyses, bell pepper cultivars were categorised in five distinct groups.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of TCP gene clusters among clinical and environmental Vibrio cholerae isolates and to explore the genetic relatedness of isolates using ribotyping technique. A total of 50 V. cholerae strains (30 clinical and 20 environmental) were included in this study. Three clinical isolates were negative for TCP cluster genes while the cluster was absent in all of the environmental strains. Ribotyping of rRNA genes with BglI produced 18 different ribotype patterns, three of which belonged to clinical O1 serotype isolates. The remaining 15 ribotypes belonged to clinical non-O1, non-O139 serogroups (two patterns) and environmental non-O1, non-O139 serogroups (13 patterns). Clinical V. cholerae O1 strains from 2004 through 2006 and several environmental non-O1, non-O139 V. cholerae strains from 2006 showed 67.3 % similarity and fell within one single gene cluster. Ribotyping analysis made it possible to further comprehend the close originality of clinical isolates as very little changes have been occurred within rRNA genes of different genotypes of V. cholerae strains through years. In conclusion, ribotyping analysis of environmental V. cholerae isolates showed a substantial genomic diversity supporting the fact that genetic changes within bacterial genome occurs during years in the environment, while only little changes may arise within the genome of clinical isolates.  相似文献

Microalgae cultivation for biofuels production and other applications has gained considerable interest recently. Despite their simple structures, microalgae can accumulate significant amounts of neutral lipids per dry cell weight compared to other energy crops. Neochloris oleoabundans is a promising microalga known for its high lipid content and biomass growth rate compared to other species cultivated for biofuels synthesis; therefore, it is considered as a suitable candidate for biodiesel synthesis. This review paper covers several key aspects associated with the cultivation and applications of the microalga N. oleoabundans. Biomass composition, factors affecting the growth, and biomass and lipid productivities of this species were addressed. In addition, different growth conditions as well as alternative readily available nutrient media to support the growth of N. oleoabundans were presented in this review.  相似文献

1,3-Diaminopropane has been detected, together with spermidine, in cucumber seeds. Quantitative estimation of the two metabolites in cucumber seeds and germinating seedlings (up to 21 days old) showed that the concentrations of both metabolites increased, then decreased with age. A metabolic sequence linking spermidine, 1,3-diaminopropane and the non-protein amino acid β-pyrazol-1-yl alanine was suggested.  相似文献

MicroRNAs are key factors for many biological functions. These regulatory molecules affect various gene networks and involve the subsequent signaling pathways. Therefore, disrupting the expression of these molecules is associated with multiple anomalies in the cells and body. One of the most important related abnormalities is the incidence of cancer. Thus, targeting microRNAs (miRNAs) is an effective approach for cancer gene therapy. Various factors are used for this purpose, including the antagomir nucleotide structure. There are some obstacles in the delivery of nucleotide therapeutics to the target cells, however, the use of nanoparticles could partly overcome these defeciencies. On the other hand, targeted delivery of antagomirs using aptamers, reduces nonspecific effects on nontarget cells. Considering the above, in this study, we designed and fabricated a nanocarrier composed of gold nanoparticles (GNPs), antagomir-155, and nucleolin specific aptamer for breast cancer study and therapy. Here, GNPs were synthesized using citrate reduction and were modified by polyA sequences, AS1411 aptamer, and antagomir-155. Attachment of molecules were confirmed using gel electrophoresis, atomic force microscopy imaging and electrochemical test. The specific entry of modified nanoparticles was investigated by fluorescence microscopy. The efficacy of modified nanoparticles was evaluated using a quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR) for miR-155 and its target gene. Efficient and specific delivery of AuNP–Apt–anti-miR-155 to target cells was confirmed in comparison with the control cell. The q-PCR analysis showed not only a significant decrease in mir-155 levels but also an elevated TP53INP1 mRNA, direct target of miR-155. The proposed structure inhibits proliferation and stimulates apoptosis by increasing the expression of TP53INP1. Our results suggest that AuNP–Apt–anti-miR-155 could be a promising nano constructor for breast cancer treatment.  相似文献

A major debate in evolutionary biology is whether virulence is maintained as an adaptive trait and/or evolves to non-virulence. In the environment, virulence traits of non-obligatory parasites are subjected to diverse selective pressures and trade-offs. Here, we focus on a population of Vibrio splendidus that displays moderate virulence for oysters. A MARTX (Multifunctional-autoprocessing repeats-in-toxin) and a type-six secretion system (T6SS) were found to be necessary for virulence toward oysters, while a region (wbe) involved in O-antigen synthesis is necessary for resistance to predation against amoebae. Gene inactivation within the wbe region had major consequences on the O-antigen structure, conferring lower immunogenicity, competitive advantage and increased virulence in oyster experimental infections. Therefore, O-antigen structures that favour resistance to environmental predators result in an increased activation of the oyster immune system and a reduced virulence in that host. These trade-offs likely contribute to maintaining O-antigen diversity in the marine environment by favouring genomic plasticity of the wbe region. The results of this study indicate an evolution of V. splendidus towards moderate virulence as a compromise between fitness in the oyster as a host, and resistance to its predators in the environment.  相似文献
