A mathematical model is suggested of the biological system of angular stabilization in space relative to the local vertical using measures whose parameters are near to the parameters of the semicircular canals and otolithic organ of the man. The structural correlates of the cell responses in subnuclei of the hypothalamic paraventricular nuclei (PVN) in fasting and carbohydrate loaded adult male rats were studied using light microscopic morphometric methods. The data obtained revealed difference in responsiveness of the subnuclei studied to alternative shifts in the carbohydrate homeostasis: histophysiological features in five of ten cell-divisions, distinguished in the rat RVN, demonstrated their dependence on impaired carbohydrate homeostasis.  相似文献

The rate at which human genomes mutate is a central biological parameter that has many implications for our ability to understand demographic and evolutionary phenomena. We present a method for inferring mutation and gene-conversion rates by using the number of sequence differences observed in identical-by-descent (IBD) segments together with a reconstructed model of recent population-size history. This approach is robust to, and can quantify, the presence of substantial genotyping error, as validated in coalescent simulations. We applied the method to 498 trio-phased sequenced Dutch individuals and inferred a point mutation rate of 1.66 × 10−8 per base per generation and a rate of 1.26 × 10−9 for <20 bp indels. By quantifying how estimates varied as a function of allele frequency, we inferred the probability that a site is involved in non-crossover gene conversion as 5.99 × 10−6. We found that recombination does not have observable mutagenic effects after gene conversion is accounted for and that local gene-conversion rates reflect recombination rates. We detected a strong enrichment of recent deleterious variation among mismatching variants found within IBD regions and observed summary statistics of local sharing of IBD segments to closely match previously proposed metrics of background selection; however, we found no significant effects of selection on our mutation-rate estimates. We detected no evidence of strong variation of mutation rates in a number of genomic annotations obtained from several recent studies. Our analysis suggests that a mutation-rate estimate higher than that reported by recent pedigree-based studies should be adopted in the context of DNA-based demographic reconstruction.  相似文献

Manipulation of the nutrient concentration is an inexpensive and efficient method for increasing lipid and TAG accumulation in algal cells. However, high volumetric production requires finding a proper balance between the decrease of biomass production and the increase in the total lipid content. We isolated a strain of green microalga Bracteacoccus bullatus and increased its lipid content from 17 to 59% of biomass dry weight by manipulating of nitrogen and phosphorus content in the medium. The 10-fold reduction of the nitrogen and phosphorus concentration in the medium was the most efficient method of the lipid induction compared to nutrient deplete and high nutrient conditions. The oleic (48–64% mass of total fatty acids) and linoleic (14–24% mass of total fatty acids) acids dominated in the fatty acid profile, thus making this strain a suitable candidate for biodiesel production.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of various metabolic blockers on the Na-K-pump activity and ATP content of frog erythrocytes. To eliminate K-C1 cotransport, the frog erythrocytes were incubated in nitrate media at 20 °C. Incubation of the red cells in a glucose-free medium for 2 h had no effect on cell ATP content and K+ influx measured as 86Rb uptake for 60 min. The Na+-K+-pump activity was also unchanged in the frog erythrocytes incubated in a glucose-free medium containing 10 mM 2-deoxy-D-glucose or adenosine. Unexpectedly, the treatment of red cells with 1–2 mM glycolytic blocker iodoacetate produced a 2-fold increase in the ouabain-sensitive K+ influx. The cell ATP content declined by 9.4% after 2 h of cell incubation with iodoacetate. Incubation of the red cells for 90 min in the presence of 2 mM cyanide, 0.01 mM antimycin A or 5 mM azide resulted in a significant reduction in K+ influx by about 50%, 45% and 32%, respectively. The cell ATP content diminished over 60 min and 120 min of cell incubation with 2 mM cyanide by 15.6% and 31.7% of control levels, respectively. In time-course experiments, a 50% reduction in the K+ influx was observed when the frog erythrocytes were incubated for only 30 min in the presence of 2 mM cyanide. In contrast, 0.01–0.10 mM rotenone, a site I inhibitor, and 0.01 mM carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone, an uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation were without effect on K+ influx into frog erythrocytes. These results indicate that about one-half of the Na+ -K+-pump activity in frog erythrocytes is tightly functionally coupled to cytochromes via a separate “membrane-associated” ATP pool. The infection of tobacco, nightshade, rice plants, and their tissue cultures with the cyanobacteria-bacteria symbiotic associations (CBSA) isolated from natural syncyanoses (the ferns Azolla pinnata and Azolla sp. and the cycad Encephalartos ferox) was studied. The inoculation of the intact plants or their cuttings with CBSA led to the colonization of the plant roots, stems, and leaves by cyanobacteria and their bacterial symbionts (referred to as satellite bacteria, SB). The sites of the long-term contact of plant organs with cyanobacteria were characterized by the formation of copious slime. On the roots of infected plants, one could observe the callus growth of cortical parenchyma cells and the formation of pseudonodules, in which SB cells gradually accumulated. In mixed cultures of plant callus tissues and the CBSA isolated from the ferns A. pinnata and Azolla sp., the callus tissue specifically influenced the growth of the CBSA components, causing (depending on the plant species and strain) either their balanced growth, or their cyclic growth, or the predominant growth of one of the CBSA components (either cyanobacteria or satellite bacteria). This phenomenon is proposed to be used for the dissociation of stable multicomponent natural symbiotic complexes and the selection of their particular components.  相似文献

Thermal reaction norms for development (the lower temperature threshold, temperature sensitivity, and sum of degree-days) can show phenotypic plasticity in response to a combination of ecological factors. The goal of this study was to evaluate the degree of plasticity of the thermal reaction norms for development under different photoperiodic conditions in the green shield bug Palomena prasina. Experiments were conducted in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, two photoperiodic regimens (12 and 22 h of light per day) and five constant temperatures (20, 22, 24, 26, and 28°C) were used; a lower temperature of 16°C was added in 2016. There were no differences in the egg developmental time between the two photoperiodic conditions and across the two experiments. Under the short-day photoperiodic regimen, nymphal development was faster at all the temperatures and was characterized by greater thermal sensitivity and a higher temperature threshold than under the long-day photoperiod. Besides, the relationship between the developmental rate and temperature deviated from linearity at 26 and 28°C under short-day conditions. The adaptive nature of the observed nymphal response to photoperiodic conditions was confirmed by our phenological observations and an outdoor cage experiment. The adult body mass slightly increased with rising temperature under short-day conditions but did not depend on the temperature under long-day ones. Females were larger than males, and both sexes had a greater body mass under long-day conditions than under short-day ones. In 2015, the eggs for experiments were collected before mid-July, almost a month later than in 2016. Nymphs that hatched from the later eggs (in 2015) had significantly higher relative growth rates than the early-season nymphs (in 2016) at 20, 22, and 24°C under both photoperiods. This discrepancy between years was probably related to the maternal effect, namely, the difference in the female physiological age.
