Complexes of vanadium(IV), vanadyl, are reported to be formed with the trihydroxamic acid deferoxamine (H3DF+). One complex exhibits a reddish-violet color, with a major absorbance peak at 386 nm and a smaller peak at 520 nm. This complex is potentially useful for the microdetermination of vanadyl. The apparent molar absorptivity is 3.91 mM-1 cm-1, and the complex obeys Beer's law in the concentration range of 0.6-63 ppm. Electron spin resonance studies indicate the formation of two vanadyl complexes that are 1:1 in vanadyl and deferoxamine, but have two or three bound hydroxamate groups. ESR and spectrophotometric evidence indicate that the red, low pH form, involves an octahedral vanadium (4+) ion coordinated by three hydroxamate ligands. One of these hydroxamates is displaced by an oxygen at pH greater than 2.8 according to the following equilibria: VO2+ + H3DF+ in equilibrium with VIV(DF)2+ + H3O+, VIV(DF)2+ + H2O in equilibrium with VO(HDF)+ + H+, where pk2 = 2.8. 相似文献

To determine the magnitude of functional compensation after pneumonectomy and whether compensation is related to maturity of the animal at the time of resection, we performed left pneumonectomy in either adult or 10-wk-old beagles. Studies were performed in adults 7-9 mo after surgery and in puppies 18-23 mo after surgery when the dogs reached full maturity. Results were compared with those in age- and sex-matched unoperated controls. Measurements included pressure-volume relationships, pulmonary hemodynamics, rebreathing studies of lung volume, diffusing capacity and its components, lung tissue volume, and pulmonary blood flow. Computerized-tomographic scans were performed in the puppy groups to determine changes in thoracic shape and size. Morphometric analysis of the lungs was performed under light microscopy. There was partial compensation for loss of one lung by functional improvement in the remaining lung. Compensation was greater in those pneumonectomized as puppies than as adults. Volume of the remaining lung was larger than predicted for a given transpulmonary pressure in both groups. Diffusing capacity, pulmonary capillary blood volume, and lung tissue volume were larger than expected for the normal right lung. After pneumonectomy, compliance of the rib cage was greater in puppies than in adults. Weight of the costal diaphragm was reduced in pneumonectomized puppies. Pulmonary hypertension at rest did not develop, and pulmonary vascular reactivity to hypoxia was unchanged after pneumonectomy in both groups. Several carbohydrases and glycosidases from the alimentary cancal and/or salivary glands of feeding larvae of mayetiola destructor have been identified. Pectinase activity was identified in the midgut and may be present in the salivary glands. No endocellulase activity was found in larvae; however, hemicellulase activity was detected in extract of larvae. Amylase activity was present in midguts from feeding larvae and at a low level in extract of salivary glands. Amylases detected in the midgut showed mobilities during polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis similar to the two major amylases in tissues of the insect's host plant. The possibility exists that Hessian fly larvae utilize amylases obtained from their host plant in the digestion of starch. The major glycosidases detected in the midgut lumen of larve were: α-D-glucosidase and α-D-and β-D-galactosidase. The role of these enzymes in the feeding process of Hessian fly larvae is discussed as well as their potential role in feeding damage to wheat. 相似文献

The alignment of cholesteryl esters in multilayer phosphatidylcholine membranes was investigated using two spin-labelled cholesteryl esters: 10 : 3 ester () and 1 : 14 ester (). The nitroxide label of is aligned in the membrane with a very large angle of tilt (47° ± 1.5°) with respect to the normal to the membrane surface; does not show such a tilt. gives spectra corresponding to immobilized label while gives nearly isotropic spectra. Dinitrogen (N2) fixing bacteria (diazotrophs) are an important source of new nitrogen in oligotrophic environments and represent stable members of the microbiome in tropical corals, while information on corals from temperate oligotrophic regions is lacking. Therefore, this study provides new insights into the diversity and activity of diazotrophs associated with the temperate coral Oculina patagonica from the Mediterranean Sea by combining metabarcoding sequencing of amplicons of both the 16S rRNA and nifH genes and 15N2 stable isotope tracer analysis to assess diazotroph-derived nitrogen (DDN) assimilation by the coral. Results show that the diazotrophic community of O. patagonica is dominated by autotrophic bacteria (i.e. Cyanobacteria and Chlorobia). The majority of DDN was assimilated into the tissue and skeletal matrix, and DDN assimilation significantly increased in bleached corals. Thus, diazotrophs may constitute an additional nitrogen source for the coral host, when nutrient exchange with Symbiodinium is disrupted (e.g. bleaching) and external food supply is limited (e.g. oligotrophic summer season). Furthermore, we hypothesize that DDN can facilitate the fast proliferation of endolithic algae, which provide an alternative carbon source for bleached O. patagonica. Overall, O. patagonica could serve as a good model for investigating the importance of diazotrophs in coral recovery from bleaching. 相似文献
