The effects on housefly (Musca domestica) of six norditerpene lactones (nagilactones B, D, E, podolide, hallactone B and 14-epi-ponalactone A) in a defined diet were tested. Nagilactone D was the most active, with an LD50 of 0.7 ppm. Nagilactones C and D were also toxic to light-brown apple moth (Epiphyas postvittana) and codling moth (Laspeyresia pomonella).The relationship between lactone structure and toxicity to housefly is discussed.
Zusammenfassung Viele aus Podocarpus-Arten isolierte Norditerpenlactone sind für Stubenfliegen toxisch. Es wird über die Resultate der Fütterung von sechs Lactonen an die Stubenfliege in einem definierten Nährboden berichtet und die LD50 von zwölf Verbindungen werden verglichen. Der aktivste Stoff ist Nagilacton mit einer LD50 von 0,7 ppm. Nagilacton C und D sind auch toxisch für Epiphyas postvittana und für den Apfelwickler. Die wirksamsten Verbindungen haben eine kurze nichtpolare Seitenkette und eine elektronenreiche, funktionelle Gruppe bei C-8, ferner sind sie Epoxyalkohole in Ring-A. Diese in der Natur vorkommenden Lactone spielen wahrscheinlich eine Schutzrolle in der Pflanze.

[NEt4]3[Fe6M2S8(SEt)9] (M = Mo or W) compounds are isomorphous and contain molybdenum and tungsten atoms in an essentially identical environment. These complexes undergo an irreversible one-electron oxidation at −0.46 V (Mo) and −0.51 V (W) and two one-electron reductions at −1.56 and −1.76 V (Mo) and −1.52 and −1.84 V (W), in DMSO solution versus (0.1 M). The only distinction between the behavior of these molybdenum and tungsten complexes identified thus far is that, for the former the reductions are reversible whereas for the latter they are irreversible. This difference may be relevant to the low activity found for nitrogenases reconstituted with tungsten in place of molybdenum.  相似文献

1. Electron-transport particles derived from Escherichia coli grown aerobically contain three b-type cytochromes with mid-point oxidation-reduction potentials at pH7 of +260mV, +80mV and -50mV, with n=1 for each. The variation of these values with pH was determined. 2. E. coli develops a different set of b-type cytochromes when grown anaerobically on glycerol with fumarate or nitrate as terminal electron acceptor. Electron-transport particles of fumarate-grown cells contain b-type cytochromes with mid-point potentials at pH7 of +140mV and +250mV (n=1). These two cytochromes are also present in cells grown with nitrate as terminal acceptor, where an additional cytochrome b with a mid-point potential of +10mV (n=1) is developed. 3. The wavelengths of the alpha-absorption-band maxima of the b-type cytochromes at 77K were: (a) for aerobically grown cells, cytochrome b (E(m7) +260mV), 556nm and 563nm, cytochrome b (E(m7) +80mV), 556nm and cytochrome b (E(m7)-50mV), 558nm; (b) for anaerobically grown cells, cytochrome b (E(m7) +250mV), 558nm, cytochrome b (E(m7) +40mV), 555nm and cytochrome b (E(m7) +10mV), 556nm. 4. Cytochrome d was found to have a mid-point potential at pH7 of +280mV (n=1). 5. Cytochrome a(1) was resolved as two components of equal magnitude with mid-point potentials of +260mV and +160mV (n=1). 6. Redox titrations performed in the presence of CO showed that one of the b-type cytochromes in the aerobically grown cultures was reduced, even at the upper limits of our range of electrode potentials (above +400mV). Cytochrome d was also not oxidizable in the presence of CO. Neither of the cytochromes a(1) was affected by the presence of CO.  相似文献

Summary Strain-2 guinea-pigs bearing the transplantable L2C leukemia were treated with cytoxan 24 h prior to receiving an injection of either allogeneic or syngeneic spleen cells from donors preimmunized to the leukemia. Treatment with the drug alone produced a remission period which lasted for 4–5 weeks before eventual relapse and death. An IP transfer of spleen or peritoneal exudate (PE) cells from syngeneic strain-2 guinea-pigs hyperimmunized to the leukemia greatly extended the survival times of drug-treated animals beyond that observed in animals receiving normal strain-2 cells. Long-term survivors were refractory to a subsequent challenge with a lethal inoculum of L2C cells. A reduced tumor load was essential for an immunotherapeutic effect of adoptively transferred cells. The use of sensitized lymphocytes alone failed to control the established disease. Hyperimmune spleen cells from strain-13 and Hartley guinea-pigs also demonstrated a slight capacity to inhibit the proliferation of leukemia cells when injected into diseased animals previously treated with the drug. Due to inadequate drug suppression, however, the injection of allogeneic cells from either immune strain-13 or Hartley guinea-pigs did not prolong the latent period for the appearance of the leukemia to the same extent as either immune strain-2 spleen or PE cells. A marked delay in the onset of disease was noted when immune spleen cells from either syngeneic or allogeneic sources were mixed in vitro with L2C leukemia cells at a ratio of 200:1 before injection back into normal strain-2 animals. However, an exposure of L2C blast cells in vitro with heat-inactivated serum obtained from L2C-immune strain-2 animals significantly enhanced the onset of disease.  相似文献

A cinematographic method of biomechanical motion analysis is presented which permits the determination of body segment forces and joint moments of force, and thereby dominant muscle action. An analysis of the horizontal leap of Cercopithecus is used as an example of the utility of this approach in the area of functional morphology. Kinematic and kinetic data are presented and discussed in terms of the biomechanical requirements of this form of locomotion. The importance of a consideration of inertial as well as gravitational forces in an analysis of positional behavior involving body motion is stressed.  相似文献

Winged seeds, or samaras, are believed to promote the long‐distance dispersal and invasive potential of wind‐dispersed trees, but the full dispersive potential of these seeds has not been well characterised. Previous research on the ecology of winged seeds has largely focussed on the initial abscission and primary dispersal of the samara, despite it being known that the primary wind dispersal of samaras is often over short distances, with only rare escapes to longer distance dispersal. Secondary dispersal, or the movement of the seeds from the initial dispersal area to the site of germination, has been largely ignored despite offering a likely important mechanism for the dispersal of samaras to microhabitats suitable for establishment. Herein, we synthesise what is known on the predation and secondary dispersal of winged seeds by multiple dispersive vectors, highlighting gaps in knowledge and offering suggestions for future research. Both hydrochory and zoochory offer the chance for samaroid seeds to disperse over longer distances than anemochory alone, but the effects of the wing structure on these dispersal mechanisms have not been well characterised. Furthermore, although some studies have investigated secondary dispersal in samaroid species, such studies are scarce and only rarely track seeds from source to seedling. Future research must be directed to studying the secondary dispersal of samaras by various vectors, in order to elucidate fully the invasive and colonisation potential of samaroid trees.  相似文献
