Procedure for spiral computed tomography in the diagnosis of tooth impaction

The paper presents a procedure for spiral computed tomography that may be used if there are some difficulties in the diagnosis of impaction of different teeth. Examples art used to show the capacities of specified diagnosis in solving the problems and difficulties in surgical or orthodontic treatment.     

The role of visual afferentation in the development of early defense behavior of pied flycatcher nestlings

The development of defense behavior in normal and visually deprived pied flycatcher nestlings was studied in the wild. It was demonstrated that the young deprived of the visual afferentation did not develop the freezing posture. In the majority of cases, specific alarm call suppressed begging in visually deprived nestlings less effectively than in the control ones. Visually deprived nestlings could not discriminate between the alarm call and other rhythmically organized acoustic signals even though the latter effectively suppressed begging.     

The synthesis of imidodiphosphoric acid derivatives as potential substrates in the pyrophosphorolysis reaction

The preparation conditions for dichlorophosphinylphosphorimidic trichloride were optimized. It was used in the synthesis of esters of imidodiphosphoric acid. The interaction of the trichloride with amines resulted in the corresponding amidodiphosphates rather than in the expected amides of imidodiphosphoric acid.     

Clinical and X-ray assessment of different modes for correcting orbital bottom defects in posttraumatic deformities of the middle one-third of the facial skeleton

The paper describes the evolution and consequences of different modes of eliminating orbital bottom defects and deformities that develop in posttraumatic deformities due to bone fractures of the facial mid-skeleton. Spiral computed tomography of this portion of the facial skeleton has demonstrated that the optimum results of restoration of the orbital bottom and those of elimination of eyeball displacement give the use of osteoplasty with a split parietal bone graft.     

Ultrastructure of the proteoglycan component of the extracellular matrix in the intact mammary gland and in benign and malignant mammary gland tumors

Proteoglycans (PG) were revealed by electron microscopy using cation dyes, Alcian blue and safranin O. In intact mammary gland of dogs, each histogenetic type of cells had its specific features in the ultrastructure of pericellular matrix proteoglycan component. A thin-stitched net, consisting of small PG granules and thin filaments has been observed in the pericellular space of secretory epithelium. A well-proportioned PG net is absent near fibroblasts and macrophages. Net-like PG structure is found in the endothelium, pericytes and adventitial cells of blood capillaries. Visual changes in PG-containing extracellular matrix are observed in the epithelium of mammary gland tumors.     

Effects of adaptation to exposure to short-term stress on indices of resistance of energy metabolism and contractile function of the myocardium to acute hypoxic hypoxia and reoxygenation

Effect of preliminary adaptation to immobilization stress with progressive duration from 15 min. to 1 h (every second day, 8 sessions) on the resistance of indices of myocardial energy metabolism and contractile function to acute hypoxic hypoxia and subsequent reoxygenation was studied. It was shown, that adaptation to short-term stress exposure by some way provided the retention of activities of important enzymes like creatine-phosphokinase and phosphorylase under the harmful action of acute hypoxia and subsequent reoxygenation. At the same time, the ATP restoration and the CP super-restoration were observed during reoxygenation. This effect, in its turn, was accompanied by a more pronounced super-restoration of the heart contractile function than in control.     

The effect of chondroitin sulfate preparations on wound healing and the strength of the surgical scar

An experimental investigation of the ability of the chondroitinsulphate preparation produced from cattle tracheas, of rumalon and chonsuride to stimulate the regeneration of cutaneous coverings in case of their injury was carried out. A strength of the surgical cicatrix and its elongation at rupture in two weeks' injections of chondroitinsulphate increased in comparison with control. A stimulating effect of chondroitinsulphate to regeneration of flesh wound in case of local single action didn't differ essentially from the effect of chonsuride. In case of application of the preparations, an area of wound for the rats received chondroitinsulphate was already on the eighth day twice as less in comparison with the animals treated with chonsuride. Thus, a stimulating effect of chondroitinsulphate preparation to the regeneration of damaged cutaneous coverings by both parenteral and local administration was shown.
