A series of new benzenesulfonamides, most of which are chiral, incorporating 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole and amino acid moieties have been synthesized. Some of these compounds were screened for antimalarial activity and also evaluated for their ability to inhibit hem polymerization. The electrophoretic analysis indicated that one compound was effective in inhibiting the degradation of hemoglobin. The synthesized compounds were tested in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei. These derivatives have the potential for the development of novel antimalarial lead compounds.  相似文献

Aim

We used an eco-phylogenetic approach to investigate the diversity and assembly patterns of tropical dry forests (TDFs) in Central India. We aimed at informing conservation and restoration practices in these anthropogenically disturbed forests by identifying potential habitats of conservation significance and elements of regional biodiversity most vulnerable to human impact and climate change.

Location

Tropical dry forests of Madhya Pradesh, Central India.

Methods

We analysed the species richness, stem density, basal area and phylogenetic structure (standardized effect size of MNTD, MPD, PD and community evolutionary distinctiveness cED) of 117 tree species assemblages distributed across a ~230 to ~940 m elevational gradient. We examined how these community measures and taxonomic (Sørensen) and phylogenetic (UniFrac) beta diversity varied with elevation, precipitation, temperature and climatic stress.

Results

Species richness, phylogenetic diversity, stem density and basal area were positively correlated with elevation, with high-elevation plots exhibiting cooler temperatures, higher precipitation and lower stress. High-elevation assemblages also trended towards greater phylogenetic dispersion, which diminished at lower elevations and in drier, more stressful plots. Phylogenetic turnover was observed across the elevation gradient, and species evolutionary distinctiveness increased at lower elevations and under harsher abiotic conditions.

Main Conclusions

Harsher abiotic conditions at low elevations may act as a selective filter on plant lineages, leading to phylogenetically clustered low-diversity assemblages. These assemblages contained more evolutionarily distinct species that may contribute disproportionately to biodiversity. Conversely, milder abiotic conditions at high elevations may serve as refuges for drought-sensitive species, resulting in more diverse assemblages. Conservation practices that prioritize both high- and low-elevation habitats could promote the persistence of evolutionarily distinct species and areas of high biodiversity within the Central Indian landscape. Establishing connectivity between these habitats may provide a range of climatic conditions for species to retreat to or persist within as climates change.  相似文献

With an aim to develop mapping population on fibre fineness trait, grouping of 16 selected jute accessions, eight each from Corchorus olitorius and Corchorus capsularis which showed promising agronomic characteristics, was carried out using fibre fineness data and DNA fingerprinting using SSR and RAPID primers. Based on fibre fineness trait two subgroups depicting the fine and coarse fibre yielding accessions were obtained in each species. A total of 26 RAPID primers and 22 pairs of SSR primers yielded 277 and 41 scorable bands, respectively. High level of polymorphism was detected between fine and coarse fibre yielding jute accessions. Dendrogram showed that all the accessions formed two main clusters between C. olitorius and C. capsularis and each main cluster subdivided in two clusters containing fine and coarse fibre jute accessions. RAPID and SSR marker data-sets showed high levels of positive correlation (Mantel test, r = 0.97). Grouping of jute accessions based on morphological and molecular data was highly correlated. This study will be useful in future jute breeding programs.  相似文献

Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is a major insult to postcapillary venules. We hypothesized that IR increases postcapillary venular hydraulic conductivity and that IR-mediated changes in hydraulic conductivity result from temporally and mechanistically separate processes. A microcannulation technique was used to determine hydraulic conductivity (Lp) in rat mesenteric postcapillary venules serially throughout ischemia (45 min) and reperfusion (5 h) induced by superior mesenteric artery occlusion and release. Mesenteric IR resulted in a biphasic increase in Lp. White blood cell (WBC) adhesion slowly increased with maximal adhesion corresponding to the second peak (P < 0.005). After IR, tissue was harvested for RT-PCR analysis of ICAM-1, E-selectin, and P-selectin mRNA. Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) mRNA in the gut showed the most significant upregulation. Quantitative real-time PCR revealed that ICAM-1 mRNA was upregulated 60-fold in the gut. An ICAM-1 antibody was therefore used to determine the effect of WBC adhesion on Lp during IR. ICAM-1 inhibition attenuated Lp during the first peak and completely blocked the second peak (P < 0.005). When rats were fed a tungsten diet to inhibit xanthine oxidase and then underwent IR, Lp was dramatically attenuated during the first peak and mildly decreased the second peak (P < 0.005). Inhibition of xanthine oxidase by oxypurinol decreased Lp during IR by over 60% (P < 0.002). Tempol, a superoxide dismutase mimetic, decreased Lp during IR by over 30% (P < 0.01). We conclude that IR induces a biphasic increase in postcapillary hydraulic conductivity. Reactive oxygen species impact both the first transient peak and the sustained second peak. However, the second peak is also dependent on WBC-endothelial cell adhesion. These serial measurements of postcapillary hydraulic conductivity may lead the way for optimal timing of pharmaceutical therapies in IR injury.  相似文献

Skp1-Cdc53/Cul1-F-box (SCF) complexes constitute a class of E3 ubiquitin ligases. Recently, a multiprotein complex containing pVHL, elongin C and Cul2 (VEC) was shown to structurally and functionally resemble SCF complexes. Cdc53 and the Cullins can become covalently linked to the ubiquitin-like molecule Rub1/NEDD8. Inhibition of neddylation inhibits SCF function in vitro and in yeast and plants. Here we show that ongoing neddylation is likewise required for VEC function in vitro and for the degradation of SCF and VEC targets in mammalian cells. Thus, neddylation regulates the activity of two specific subclasses of mammalian ubiquitin ligases.  相似文献

A biocontrol Streptomyces isolate (C) was tested for its plant growth promoting qualities under saline conditions. Exposure to elevated osmotic strengths up to 300 mM NaCl increased dry weight and cfu/ml significantly. The isolate C produced indolyl-3-acetic acid (IAA) into the medium in the amount of 2.4 μg/ml. The amount of auxin increased after adding salt and reached to 4.7 μg/ml in 300 mM NaCl. Biosynthesis of siderophore was detectable and increased in presence of NaCl. Streptomyces isolate C showed good solubilization of tricalcium phosphate in culture medium with 92 mg/l. Solubilization decreased in presence of NaCl. Soil treatment with isolate C increased the growth and development of wheat plant in normal and saline conditions. In this treatment there were significant increases in germination rate, percentage and uniformity, shoot length and dry weight compared to the control. Applying the bacterial inocula increased the concentration of N, P, Fe and Mn in wheat shoots grown in normal and saline soil, but had non-significant effect on other micro and macronutrients concentrations. Results of this study show that Streptomyces isolate C has potential to be utilized as biofertilizer in saline soils.  相似文献

Different modes of exercise are reported to be beneficial in subjects with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Similar benefits have also been ascribed to the dietary supplement gum acacia (GA). Using several physiological, biochemical, immunological, and histopathological measurements, we assessed the effect of swimming exercise (SE) on adenine –induced CKD, and tested whether SE would influence the salutary action of GA in rats with CKD. Eight groups of rats were used, the first four of which were fed normal chow for 5 weeks, feed mixed with adenine (0.25% w/w) to induce CKD, GA in the drinking water (15% w/v), or were given adenine plus GA, as above. Another four groups were similarly treated, but were subjected to SE during the experimental period, while the first four groups remained sedentary. The pre-SE program lasted for four days (before the start of the experimental treatments), during which the rats were made to swim for 5 to 10 min, and then gradually extended to 20 min per day. Thereafter, the rats in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th groups started to receive their respective treatments, and were subjected to SE three days a week for 45 min each. Adenine induced the typical signs of CKD as confirmed by histopathology, and the other measurements, and GA significantly ameliorated all these signs. SE did not affect the salutary action of GA on renal histology, but it partially improved some of the above biochemical and physiological analytes, suggesting that addition of this mode of exercise to GA supplementation may improve further the benefits of GA supplementation.  相似文献

Salinity and high boron (B) concentrations are important co-limitations to crop production on naturally occurring alkaline soils in low rainfall regions of the world. Although the interactive effects of salinity and B toxicity on Brassica juncea growth have been reported in slightly acidic soils, very little is known about the interactive effects in alkaline soils. In the current study, a moderately tolerant (Vaibhav) and sensitive (Xinyou5) variety, were grown hydroponically for four weeks to assess mild salinity (50 mM NaCl) with or without high B (1 mM B) at moderate alkalinity (pH 8.5/5 mM NaHCO3). The growth of the two varieties was more affected under the combined treatment than either salinity or high B alone. Although growth rate reduction was similar among the varieties, Vaibhav maintained a lower sodium (Na) and B and a higher potassium (K) concentration in the leaves than Xinyou5. In response to salinity, Vaibhav demonstrated essential tolerance mechanisms of partial exclusion and presumably compartmentalization of Na, leading to greater biomass than Xinyou5. Despite being able to better exclude B, Xinyou5 suffered a greater growth penalty, indicating higher B sensitivity than Vaibhav. In conclusion, screening for individual stresses is not necessarily the best strategy because plant responses to a single stress either salinity or high B may not always be the same as observed when both stresses are present together. Therefore, Brassica germplasm screening is essential for stresses in combination but not separately.  相似文献
