The Nordic Hamstring Exercise (NHE) has been introduced as a training tool to improve the efficiency of eccentric hamstring muscle contraction. The aim of this study was to perform a biomechanical analysis of the NHE. Eighteen participants (20.4 ± 1.9 years) performed two sets of five repetitions each of the NHE and maximal eccentric voluntary contraction (MEVC) of the knee flexors on an isokinetic dynamometer whilst knee angular displacement and electrical activity (EMG) of biceps femoris were measured. EMG was on average higher during the NHE (134.3% of the MEVC). During the forward fall of the NHE, the angle at which a sharp increase in downward velocity occurred varied between 47.9 and 80.5 deg, while the peak knee angular velocity (pVelocity) varied between 47.7 and 132.8 deg s?1. A significant negative correlation was found between pVelocity and peak EMG (r = ?0.62, p < 0.01) and EMG at 45 deg (r = ?0.75, p < 0.01) expressed as a percentage of peak MEVC EMG. Some of the variables analyzed exhibited good to excellent levels of intra- and inter-session reliability. This type of analysis could be used to indirectly monitor the level of eccentric strength of the hamstring muscles while performing the NHE and potentially any training- or injury-related changes.  相似文献

Abstract

A strong K+-dependent, fusicoccin-sensitive increase in acidic extrusion paralleled by a corresponding increase in net K+ uptake and hyperpolarization of transmembrane electrical potential was observed in the root segments of wheat seedlings cultured in diluite CaSO4+0.27 mM Methyl-acethydroxamoilacetate. Abstract

Phytobenthos from Eastern Mediterranean Sea. — The A. states the results of an exploration, by diving techniques, in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, along 13 stations located in the midle-western and southern region of the Aegean Sea. Besides to the values of various ecology elements (saltness, brightness, nutrition salts), informations about reologic regime in the Aegean Sea are reported. It has been collected 175 floral entities, with the following per cent composition: Chlorophyceae 14,5%, Phoeophyceae 17,0%, Rhodophyceae 68,3%. Eastern Mediterranean Sea underwater flora presents in the explored stations a R/P index equal to 4, which characterizes it as a subtropical one.  相似文献

The passage of ions across biological membranes is regulated by passive and active mechanisms. Passive ion diffusion into organs depends on the ion-pairing properties of salts present in the serum. Potassium ions could affect brain activity by crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and its accumulation in the extracellular cerebral space could precipitate seizures. In the present study, we analyze passive diffusion of a series of potassium salts in the in vitro isolated guinea pig brain preparation. Different potassium counter-anions confer ion-pairing and lipophilicity properties that modulate membrane diffusion of the salt. Extracellular recordings in different cortical areas demonstrated the presence of epileptiform activities that strongly relate to anion identity, following the qualitative order of the Hofmeister series. Indeed, highly lipophilic salts that easily cross the BBB enhanced extracellular potassium concentration measured by ion-selective electrodes and were the most effective pro-epileptic species. This study constitutes a novel contribution for the understanding of the potential epileptogenicity of potassium salts and, more generally, of the role of counter-anions in the passive passage of salts through biological membranes.  相似文献

We used a molecular phylogenetic approach to investigate species delimitations and diversification in the mussel drills of the Ocinebrina edwardsii complex by means of a combination of nuclear (internal transcribed spacer 2, ITS2) and mitochondrial [cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and 16S] sequences. Our sample included 243 specimens ascribed to seven currently accepted species from 51 sites. Five of the samples were from either the type locality of a nominal species or a close nearby locality (O. edwardsii from Corsica, O. carmelae and O. piantonii from the Kerkennah Islands, O. hispidula from the Gulf of Gabès and O. leukos from the Canary Islands), one from the inferred original locality (O. ingloria from Venice Lagoon), and specimens assigned in the recent literature to O. nicolai. We used a combination of distance‐ and tree‐based species delimitation methods to identify Molecular Operational Taxonomic Units (MOTUs) to compare with the a priori species identifications. The consensus tree obtained by BEAST on the COI alignment allows the recognition of several distinct clades supported by the three species delimitation methods employed. The eight‐MOTUs scenario, shared by the Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery (ABGD) and Generalized Mixed Yule‐Coalescent (GMYC) methods, comprises the following major clades: clade A contains the south Tunisian species Ocinebrina piantonii Cecalupo, Buzzurro & Mariani from which the sympatric taxon O. carmelae Cecalupo, Buzzurro & Mariani (new synonym) cannot be separated; clades B and C bring together all populations from the Aegean Sea and some from the Ionian Sea, respectively; clade D groups, on the one hand, the south Tunisian samples morphologically assigned to O. hispidula Pallary and, on the other, Atlantic and Alboran Sea samples (including the Canarian taxon O. leukos Houart); clade E includes a sample from the type locality of O. edwardsii and several samples from the Tyrrhenian Sea; clades F and G correspond to a few samples from the Venice Lagoon and the Tyrrhenian Sea, respectively; clade H groups the bulk of samples from the Adriatic Sea, including samples from the Venice Lagoon morphologically identified as Ocinebrina ingloria (Crosse), and some from the Ionian Sea. No final conclusions could be reached to reconcile the currently recognized morphological taxa with the clades suggested by the COI data. The geographical structure proposed by the mitochondrial markers is similar to that found in other marine invertebrates and partially corresponds to the species defined by shell characters. We propose here a framework for the revision of the Ocinebrina edwardsii species complex, suggesting a geographical pattern for the diversification of this group in the studied area. © 2013 The Linnean Society of London  相似文献

The 2-oxoglutarate carrier (OGC) belongs to the mitochondrial carrier protein family whose members are responsible for the exchange of metabolites, cofactors and nucleotides between the cytoplasm and mitochondrial matrix. Initially, OGC was characterized by determining substrate specificity, kinetic parameters of transport, inhibitors and molecular probes that form covalent bonds with specific residues. It was shown that OGC specifically transports oxoglutarate and certain carboxylic acids. The substrate specificity combination of OGC is unique, although many of its substrates are also transported by other mitochondrial carriers. The abundant recombinant expression of bovine OGC in Escherichia coli and its ability to functionally reconstitute into proteoliposomes made it possible to deduce the individual contribution of each and every residue of OGC to the transport activity by a complete set of cys-scanning mutants. These studies give experimental support for a substrate binding site constituted by three major contact points on the even-numbered α-helices and identifies other residues as important for transport function through their crucial positions in the structure for conserved interactions and the conformational changes of the carrier during the transport cycle. The results of these investigations have led to utilize OGC as a model protein for understanding the transport mechanism of mitochondrial carriers.  相似文献
