We used chloroplast DNA restriction site analysis to test hypotheses of relationships of Solarium subgenus Potatoe (including potatoes and pepinos), two other Solanum, Cyphomandra (the tree tomatoes), and Lycopersicon (the tomatoes). Capsicum and Datura were used as outgroups. The results support two main clades among the taxa we studied: 1) Solanum subgenus Potatoe and Lycopersicon; and 2) other Solanum and Cyphomandra. Within the first clade, the following groups were supported: a) sect. Basarthrum and sect. Anarrhichomenum; b) sect. Etuberosum; c) sect. Petota; d) sect. Juglandifolium, including subsect. Lycopersicoides; and e) the genus Lycopersicon. These results, in combination with an analysis of morphological data, advocate the controversial, but previously suggested, treatment of Lycopersicon as congeneric with Solanum in subgenus Potatoe. Thus, the cultivated tomato will be recognized as Solanum lycopersicum L. Solanum chmielewskii and Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme are proposed as new combinations; Solanum neorickii is proposed as a new name for Lycopersicon parviflorum. Our data also suggest that Cyphomandra should be included within Solanum.  相似文献

Ferredoxin-NADP reductase (FNR) and ferredoxin form a complex when the former is membrane-bound as they do when both components are in solution, with the same dissociation constant. The rate constant of NADP photoreduction, first order with respect to the complex, is more than 20-times higher when FNR is membrane-bound than when the enzyme is in solution. The Arrhenius activation energy is identical in both conditions. These observations are interpreted in terms of ‘entropic catalysis’ of NADP reduction by the thylakoid-bound FNR.  相似文献

Summary Bands of electron-dense material beneath the cell membrane of smooth muscle cells of the guinea-pig taenia coli provide attachment to thin myofilaments and to intermediate (10 nm) filaments; about 50% of the cell membrane is occupied by dense bands in muscle cells transversely sectioned at the level of their nucleus, and between 50 and 100% in smaller cell profiles nearer the cell's ends. In addition to the known cell-to-cell junctions (intermediate contacts), more complex apparatuses anchor muscle cells together, either end-to-end or end-to-side or side-to-side. They consist of elaborate folds, invaginations and protrusions accompanied by large amounts of basal lamina material. In the end-to-end anchoring apparatuses numerous finger-like and laminar processes from the two cells interdigitate. Other muscle cells have a star-shaped profile in the last few microns of their length, or show longitudinal invaginations occupied by a thickened basal lamina and occasionally by collagen fibrils. The septa of connective tissue extend only for a few hundred microns along the length of the taenia. In taeniae fixed in condition of mild stretch the muscle cells form an angle of about 5° with the septa. In muscles fixed during isotonic contraction the angle increases to about 20–22°, and in longitudinal sections the muscle cells appear arranged in a herring-bone pattern. The collagen concentration in the taenia coli is 4–6 times greater that in skeletal and cardiac muscles. These various structures are discussed in terms of their possible role in the mechanism of force transmission.I thank Mr. S.J. Sarsfield and Miss E.M. Three amino acid-containing fractions present in human plasma are shown to bind both leu and met-enkephalin: serum albumin and two species of a much lower molecular weight, in all likelihood polypeptides. The amount of enkephalin associated with serum albumin seems comparatively smaller than that associated with the two low molecular weight systems. These systems jointly are apparently capable of binding a significant part of the circulating enkephalins. The possibility is suggested that the interactions described may play a role in maintaining the integrity of circulating enkephalins.  相似文献

This paper concerns an enzymological investigation into a putative canine analogue of the human autosomal recessive disease primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (alanine:glyoxylate/serine:pyruvate aminotransferase deficiency). The liver and kidney activities of alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase and serine:pyruvate aminotransferase in two Tibetan Spaniel pups with familial oxalate nephropathy were markedly reduced when compared with a variety of controls. There were no obvious deficiencies in a number of other enzymes including D-glycerate dehydrogenase/glyoxylate reductase which have been shown previously to be deficient in primary hyperoxaluria type 2. Immunoblotting of liver and kidney homogenates from oxalotic dogs also demonstrated a severe deficiency of immunoreactive alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase. The developmental expression of alanine:glyoxylate/serine:pyruvate aminotransferase was studied in the livers and kidneys of control dogs. In the liver, enzyme activity and immunoreactive protein were virtually undetectable at 1 day old, but then increased to reach a plateau between 4 and 12 weeks. During this period the activity was similar to that found in normal human liver. The enzyme activities and the levels of immunoreactive protein in the kidneys were more erratic, but they appeared to increase up to 8 weeks and then decrease, so that by 36 weeks the levels were similar to those found at 1 day. The data presented in this paper suggest that these oxalotic dogs have a genetic condition that is analogous, at least enzymologically, to the human disease primary hyperoxaluria type 1.  相似文献

With the world-wide increase of patients with renal failure, the development of functional renal replacement therapies have gained significant interest and novel technologies are rapidly evolving. Currently used renal replacement therapies insufficiently remove accumulating waste products, resulting in the uremic syndrome. A more preferred treatment option is kidney transplantation, but the shortage of donor organs and the increasing number of patients waiting for a transplant warrant the development of novel technologies. The bioartificial kidney (BAK) is such promising biotechnological approach to replace essential renal functions together with the active secretion of waste products. The development of the BAK requires a multidisciplinary approach and evolves at the intersection of regenerative medicine and renal replacement therapy. Here we provide a concise review embracing a compact historical overview of bioartificial kidney development and highlighting the current state-of-the-art, including implementation of living-membranes and the relevance of extracellular matrices. We focus further on the choice of relevant renal epithelial cell lines versus the use of stem cells and co-cultures that need to be implemented in a suitable device. Moreover, the future of the BAK in regenerative nephrology is discussed.  相似文献
