A suite of 74 surface sediment samples, collected from two areas along the Egyptian Mediterranean coast (the Western Harbor of Alexandria and its environs, and the area comprising the Gulf of Kanayis and the Abu Hashafa Bay), have been examined for their benthic foraminiferal faunas. A total of 82 species were identified. Census data were obtained for different species in each sample and the statistically significant fractional abundances values (≥5%) were analyzed using a Q-mode cluster analysis. Samples were segregated into four clusters, each having its peculiar benthic faunal assemblage (biotope), reflecting particular environmental conditions. These clusters are: (1) the Ammonia beccarii forma tepida Biotope, found in samples located in areas with waters of low energy, characterizing semi-closed basin conditions, with muddy or sandy mud bottom sediments (Harbor Proper); (2) the Quinqueloculina spp. Biotope, found in samples collected from depths bathed by turbid inner shelf conditions with some fresh water inflow and sandy bottom sediments (Harbor’s environs); (3) the Peneroplis-Amphistegina Biotope, found in samples collected from depths characterizing marine shelf environments with calcareous algae, and medium to very coarse calcareous sands (the Gulf of Kanayis and the Abu Hashafa Bay); (4) the Triloculina trigonula-Adelosina laevigata Biotope was represented by only one sample (at the far eastern part of the Gulf of Kanayis), collected from a site exhibiting very restricted environmental conditions. The study suggests that nutrients, turbidity, light intensity, type of substrate, and salinity are the main ecological factors controllingthe distribution of benthic foraminifera. 相似文献

The timing of desertification of the Sahara Desert is poorly understood, with recent estimates indicating an onset of hyper-aridity during the Latest Miocene. Field work in Egypt in 2005 has led to the discovery of evidence that indicates that 11–10 Ma the Western Desert was covered in woodland. Fossiliferous cave breccia at Sheikh Abdallah, Western Desert, Egypt, has yielded a Late Miocene (11–10 Ma) microvertebrate fauna, which contains Galagidae, Microchiroptera, Macroscelididae, Soricidae, Erinaceidae, and Rodentia. The locality also yielded the remains of frogs, snakes, lizards, and birds. The fauna indicates a mean annual rainfall in excess of 500 mm and perhaps as much as 1,200 mm. This palaeoclimatic information is important because it reveals that the Sahara Desert, which is today the largest in the world, was either considerably smaller during the Late Miocene than it is today, or that it did not yet exist as a continuous hyper-arid belt right across the continent. A small‐plot tests were conducted on cowpea, Vigna ungiculata (L.) Walp, to determine the effectiveness of 14 selected insecticides representing four insecticide classes (organophosphates, carbamates, pyrethroids, and insect growth regulators, IGRs), and four insecticide/IGR mixtures on cowpea insect pests and its effects on certain beneficial insects. By day 3 after treatement, the insecticides phenthoate, isoxathion, cyanophos, carbaryl, and cypermethrin used at sub‐recommended rates reduced the leafhopper, Empoasca spp., populations by >83% than those in the control. On that day, all insecticide treatments significantly reduced the cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora, numbers below that of the control. The prothiofos, isoxathion, pirimicarb, and fenpropathrin treatments provided continuing control to both leafhoppers and aphids through day 21 after spraying. It seems that most insecticide treatments were not effective in whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, control. The best control of the whitefly immatures was obtained by day 3 after spraying in plots received thiodicarb (76%) and fenpropathrin (60%). All selected insecticides and rates used had very low residual effect against B. tabaci immatures. By day 3 posttreatment, the carbaryl (2.02 kg/ha) caused completely protection for cowpea pods frMw blue pea butterfly, Lampides boeticus, larvae. The IGRs, flufenoxuron and Dowco‐439, applied alone and those applied in mixtures with insecticides, carbaryl/teflubenzuron, chlorpyrifos/XRD‐473, and methomyl/ flufenoxuron, exhibited satisfactory control (>81%) to butterfly larvae on day 7 posttreatment. All treatments did not exhibit a considerable residual activity against L. boeticus larvae through 2–3 weeks followed spray. Most insecticides applied at the higher rates used significantly reduced the numbers of limabean pod borer, Etiella zinckenella, larvae found in cowpea pods collected on day 7 after application. The IGRs, flufenoxuron and Dowco‐439, applied alone, at 0.119 kg/ha, or in mixtures, methomyl/flufenoxuron (0.167 kg/ha) and chlorpyrifos/Dowco‐439 (0.911 kg/ha) caused >73% control of E. zinckenella larvae through day 21 posttreatment. The best control of cowpea weevil, Callosobru‐chus spp., adults (>83%), on day 3 after spraying, was obtained in treatments of cyanophos (1.19 kg/ha), prothiofos (1.43 kg/ha), flufenoxuron (0.119 kg/ha), and chlorpyrifos/Dowco‐439 (0.911 kg/ha). The IGR flufenoxuron applied alone or in mixture, methomyl/flufenoxuron (0.164 kg/ ha) exhibited satisfactory residual activity against Callosobruchus adults through day 21 posttreatment. Percentage seed damage by the larvae of cowpea weevils was significantly lower in most treatments than that of control. Populations of insect predators found in all treated plots were extremely reduced than those found in untreated plots. By day 21 after spraying, the IGRs flufenoxuron, XRD‐473, and Dowco‐439, applied at the low rate of 0.071 kg/ha, seemed to be less effect against insect predators than other insecticides used. 相似文献

1,4-Dihydropyridines were thoroughly investigated as carriers for specific drug delivery to the brain and were found very efficient. The main problem which arises in their application in pharmaceutical preparations, is the short shelf-life time due to hydration and/or oxidation. To overcome these problems, a new carrier system is suggested. Many of 1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate derivatives are used as calcium channel blockers which are known to have long shelf-life time, and at the same time, they are safe, with no reported neurotoxicity. Since efficiency of brain specific delivery depends on the rate of oxidation of the dihydropyridine carrier, (the faster the rate, the higher the efficiency), these 3,5-dicarbonyl compounds have almost of no brain-specific delivery properties. N-alkoxycarbonylmethyl derivatives of 1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate, a new carrier system is suggested and expected to be stable enough for formulation and storage. The drug moiety will be connected to the 3,5-dicarbonyl groups in the form of esters or amides. The suggested drug-carrier once delivered and distributed in the body, will be subjected to several sequential enzymatic hydrolytic and oxidative processes. The D-carrier is designed so that, the rate of hydrolysis of the ester group at the nitrogen atom should be faster than that of the hydrolysis and release of the drug moiety. The stability and efficiency of brain specific delivery of model drugs were investigated. The in vitro and in vivo studies proved the efficiency of brain specific delivery of the carrier and at the same time its shelf life stability. The results suggest that the designed carrier is promising to be used in application of pharmaceutical formulation. 相似文献

Fluorimetric determination of febuxostat in dosage forms and in real human plasma via Förster resonance energy transfer 下载免费PDF全文
A rapid, simple, selective and precise fluorimetric method was developed and validated for determination of a selective xanthine oxidase inhibitor; febuxostat (FBX) in pharmaceutical formulations and in human plasma. The proposed method is based on quenching effect of FBX on the fluorescence intensity of terbium (Tb3+) through fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from Tb3+ to FBX. The formed complex was measured at λex. 320 nm/λem. 490 nm against a reagent blank. Fluorescence intensity of Tb3+ was diminished when FBX was added. A linear relationship between the fluorescence quenching value of the formed complex and the concentration of FBX was investigated. The reaction conditions and the fluorescence spectral properties of the complex have been studied. The linearity range of the developed method was 1.0–16.0 μg/ml. The suggested method was applied successfully for the estimation of FBX in bulk powder, dosage forms and spiked plasma samples with excellent recoveries (96.79–98.89%). In addition, the developed method has been successfully applied for determination of FBX in real plasma samples collected from healthy volunteers with good recoveries (82.06–85.65%). All obtained results of the developed method were statistically analyzed and validated according to ICH (International Conference on Harmonization) guidelines. 相似文献

Schwann cells, on receiving the correct signal, will encircle an axon and wrap it with a myelin sheath. To begin examining some of the mechanisms underlying the process of myelination in vitro, we isolated Schwann cells from the sciatic nerves of neonatal rats and generated large cell populations with cholera toxin. The immunological and biochemical properties of these secondary Schwann cells were characterized after five to seven passages in the absence of axonal contact. These cells continued to express antigens found in both myelinating (P0 and 2',3'-cyclic nucleotide phosphohydrolase) and nonmyelinating cells in vivo (A5E3 and glial fibrillary acidic protein) in addition to the markers common to both types of cells (Ran-1, 217c, S-100, and laminin). Biochemical analyses showed that these cells synthesize the very-long-chain fatty acids (22-26 carbon atoms) found in myelin membranes. Moreover, the enzymes required for the synthesis of myelin glycolipids (including sphingosine acyltransferase, UDP-galactose:ceramide galactosyltransferase, and cerebroside sulfotransferase) were still active, and metabolic labeling studies showed that galactocerebroside and sulfatide were synthesized even though the galactocerebroside pool was insufficient to be detected by immunostaining. Secondary Schwann cells also synthesized four species of myelin basic protein and the major structural glycoprotein in myelin, P0. The pathway necessary for glycosylation of P0 protein remained active, and an analysis of the oligosaccharide chain revealed that approximately 70% was processed to a complex form. In summary, we found that secondary Schwann cells still express most of the immunological markers of differentiated cells and continue to synthesize low levels of myelin components. American foulbrood (AFB) and European foulbrood (EFB) are the two major bacterial diseases affecting honeybees, leading to a decrease in viability of the hive, decreasing honey production, and resulting in significant economic losses to beekeepers. Due to the inefficiency and/or low efficacy of some antibiotics, researches with nanotechnology represent, possibly, new therapeutic strategies. Nanostructure drugs have presented some advantagesover the conventional medicines, such as slow, gradual and controlled release, increased bioavailability, and reduced side-effects. In this study, different infected larvae were collected from two apiaries; the combs that had symptoms of American and European foulbrood were isolated. In vitro antimicrobial activity of camphor tree silver nano-particles against foulbrood diseases were characterized using UV–Vis spectrophotometry and scanning electron microscope (SEM) that proves the formation of silver nanoparticles with size range 160–660 nm. The antimicrobial activity of the silver nanoparticles was tested using agar diffusion assay and proved their ability to effectively cease the pathogenic bacterial growth in both AFB and EFB. DGGE-PCR technique has been applied for the identification of un-common bacterial infections honeybees depending on 16S rRNA amplification from their total extracted DNA and has been identified as Serratia marcescens (TES), deposited in GenBank with a new accession number (MT240613). The results were confirmed strain has been detected by DGGE-PCR analysis causing uniquely infected brood that was attacked by the American Foulbrood It could be concluded that greenly synthesized silver nanoparticles is projected to be used as effective treatment for honeybee bacterial diseases. These material need more investigations under field conditions and study the possibility of its residues in honeybee products such as honey, and beeswax. 相似文献
