We performed high-resolution temperature measurements under ice cover in Lake Müggelsee, Germany, during the winter of 2005–2006. Intense seiche-like temperature oscillations developing after the ice-on have been encountered in a thin water layer above the sediments. The oscillations were initiated immediately after lake freezing by the release of the potential energy of the thermocline slope and existed for several weeks without appreciable external forcing. The oscillations were associated with a basin-scale internal waves existing in the lower stratified part of the water column. The weakness of the density stratification under ice ensured the long wave periods, exceeding the period of geostrophic inertial oscillations at the lake’s latitude. As a result, two frequency peaks were present in the oscillations corresponding to two rotational waves, one of Kelvin-wave type and another of Poincaré type wave. The rotational character provided long dissipation times of the waves and allowed the oscillations to persist in lake several weeks. Temperature measurements in the upper several centimeters of the sediment demonstrated that oscillations of the near-bottom temperature produced vertical density instability and pore-water convection in the upper sediments.  相似文献

Mathematical theory of selection is developed within the frameworks of general models of inhomogeneous populations with continuous time. Methods that allow us to study the distribution dynamics under natural selection and to construct explicit solutions of the models are developed. All statistical characteristics of interest, such as the mean values of the fitness or any trait can be computed effectively, and the results depend in a crucial way on the initial distribution. The developed theory provides an effective method for solving selection systems; it reduces the initial complex model to a special system of ordinary differential equations (the escort system). Applications of the method to the Price equations are given; the solutions of some particular inhomogeneous Malthusian, Ricker and logistic-like models used but not solved in the literature are derived in explicit form.  相似文献

The H(+) proton-translocating inorganic pyrophosphatase (H(+)-PPase) family is composed of two phylogenetically distinct types of enzymes: K(+)-dependent and K(+)-independent. However, to date, the sequence criteria governing this dichotomy have remained unknown. In this study, we describe the heterologous expression and functional characterization of H(+)-PPase from the thermophilic bacterium Carboxydothermus hydrogenoformans. Both PP(i)-hydrolyzing and PP(i)-energized H(+) translocation activities of the recombinant enzyme in Escherichia coli inner membrane vesicles are strictly K(+)-dependent. Here we deduce the K(+) requirement of all available H(+)-PPase sequences based on the K(+) dependence of C. hydrogenoformans H(+)-PPase in conjunction with phylogenetic analyses. Our data reveal that K(+)-independent H(+)-PPases possess conserved Lys and Thr that are absent in K(+)-dependent H(+)-PPases. We further demonstrate that a A460K substitution in C. hydrogenoformans H(+)-PPase is sufficient to confer K(+) independence to both PP(i) hydrolysis and PP(i)-energized H(+) translocation. In contrast, a A463T mutation does not affect the K(+) dependence of H(+)-PPase.  相似文献

A new psychrophilic, anaerobic, acetogenic bacterium from the tundra wetland soil of Polar Ural is described. The organism fermented H2/CO2, formate, methanol, and several sugars to acetate as the sole end-product. The temperature range for growth was 1-30 degrees C with an optimum at 20 degrees C. The bacterium showed no growth at 32 degrees C. Cells were gram-positive, oval-shaped, flagellated rods 0.7-1.l x 1.1-4.0 microm in size when grown at 1-20 degrees C. At 25-30 degrees C, the cell size increased up to 2-3 x 10-15 microm due to a defect in cell division. The DNA G+C content of the organism was 39.2 mol%. Based upon 16S rDNA analysis and DNA-DNA reassociation studies, the organism was classified in the genus Acetobacterium as a new species, for which the name Acetobacterium tundrae sp. nov. is proposed. A20 is a TNF-inducible primary response gene and its product, a zinc finger protein, has antiapoptotic function in several cancer cells. We studied A20 gene expression in the Vitamin D- and TNF-sensitive LNCaP cell line and in the Vitamin D- and TNF-resistant PC-3 cell line. The results of the quantitative real-time RT-PCR analyses demonstrated that the basal level of A20 mRNA production in PC-3 cells was considerably higher than in LNCaP cells that is associated with the resistance of PC-3 cells. TNF induced A20 gene expression in both cell lines, but with different effect. A20 mRNA expression was down-regulated by 10nM calcitriol within 3-9h after treatment and up-regulated by androgen reaching maximal values by 6h after stimulation in LNCaP cells. We conclude that A20 may be involved in the regulation of cell proliferation by TNF, Vitamin D, and androgen in prostate cancer.  相似文献

A new genus and species of fossil Glaphyridae, Cretohypna cristata gen. et sp. n., is described and illustrated from the Mesozoic Yixian Formation. This new genus is characterized by the large body; large and strong mandibles; short labrum; elytra without longitudinal carina; and male meso- and possible metatibia apically modified. A list of described fossil glaphyrids of the world is provided. This significant finding broadens the known diversity of Glaphyridae in the Mesozoic China.  相似文献

We studied carotenoid composition and chlorophyll fluorescence in two-year-old needles from Siberian spruce (Picea obovata (L.) Karst.), Siberian fir (Abies sibirica L.), and common juniper (Juniperus communis L.). The highest values of maximum PSII photochemical activity (F v/F m) equaling 0.82–0.85 were observed in July–September. The decrease in F v/F m in December–March was more pronounced in juniper (down to 0.15) than in spruce and fir (0.45–0.50). In May, we observed a nearly complete recovery in maximum PSII photochemical activity in fir and spruce (0.72–0.77), while in juniper, the F v/F m value was notably lower (0.65–0.67). The amount of thermal dissipation of energy absorbed by PSII LHC did not exceed 30% in summer and equaled 60–90% in winter and early spring. The carotenoid pool consisted mainly of xanthophylls, among which lutein (70%), neoxanthin (7–10%), and a violaxanthin cycle (VXC) component — violaxanthin (3–15%) were constantly present. The accumulation of two other VXC pigments—zeaxanthin and antheraxanthin, was noted in December–March. In July, these xanthophylls were not identified. We discovered a direct connection between VXC pigment de-epoxidation level and light energy thermal dissipation in boreal conifer leaves. Such association reflects the non-species-specific character of the mechanism for quenching zeaxanthin-dependent nonphotochemical chlorophyll fluorescence in PSII LHC in winter and spring.  相似文献

A series of novel RGD mimetics containing phthalimidine fragment was designed and synthesized. Their antiaggregative activity determined by Born’s method was shown to be due to inhibition of fibrinogen binding to αIIbβ3. Molecular docking of RGD mimetics to αIIbβ3 receptor showed the key interactions in this complex, and also some correlations have been observed between values of biological activity and docking scores. The single crystal X-ray data were obtained for five mimetics.  相似文献

Locusta migratoria nymphs were fed Paranosema locustae spores and/or surface-treated with Metarhizium acridum 3 (assay 1), 6 (assay 2) or 9 days (assay 3) post microsporidia application (p.m.a.). These three dates corresponded to the key phases of P. locustae development: (a) mass proliferation, (b) transition to sporogenesis and (c) onset of spore maturation, respectively. As a result, locust mortality due to mixed treatment increased slower, equally and faster, as compared to mortality expected from the combination of two pathogens in assays 1-3, respectively. However, a statistically significant difference in survival times was observed only in assay 3, indicating that only at the phase of spore maturation microsporidia drastically increase locust susceptibility to fungal infection. Analysis of perished nymphs showed that fungal treatment 3 days p.m.a. impeded development of microsporidia. Fungal sporulation on locust cadavers was not affected by co-occurring microsporidiosis.  相似文献
