Of eight corn inbreds tested in the greenhouse and field, three (H60, H95, and H84) supported lower populations of Pratylenchus hexincisus than other inbreds included in this study. No apparent differences existed among inbreds in nematode invasion or development in the roots, or in population structure. An enzyme that uses GTP as a substrate for the formation of formate and a 2.4.5-triamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine derivative has been determined in the riboflavin overproducing yeast Pichia guilliermondii. In rib 1 mutants this enzyme is absent. This implies an involvement of the enzyme in the riboflavin biosynthesis and indicates that GTP is a purine precursor of riboflavin. Some properties of the GTP cyclohydrolase (substrate specificity, pH and temperature optima, activators and inhibitors, molecular weight, stability) were studied using a partly purified enzyme preparation. Cells grown under riboflavin overproducing conditions (iron deficiency) have 20–40-fold increased enzyme activity as compared with non-overproducing cultures (supplemented with iron).Non-Standard Abbreviations RF

The peritrophic membranes, which is several groups of animals are produced by midgut epithelia, have been investigated most thoroughly in insects. The following results concern Crustacea: In the peritrophic membranes chitin containing microfibrils are embedded in the ground substance consisting of proteins and mucopolysaccharides. In addition to a felt-like texture (Streuungstextur), microfibrils are arranged in textures of higher order (orthogonal texture — Gittertexture; hexagonal texture — Wabentexture).

We have analyzed the hemoglobins of five individual trout from the Ohrid Lake (Salmo L. typicus) by electrophoretic methods, by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, and by limited structural analyses. The two major classes of hemoglobin are type I (35% of total) and type IV (65%). Type IV is the major oxygen-transporting hemoglobin; it consists of three types of chain (in about equal quantities) and three types of chain (one major and two minor types). Several structural differences have been observed between these three (IV) chains and between the three (IV) chains, suggesting a complex genetic system governing the synthesis of these proteins. Moreover, a few amino acid substitutions occur at positions involved in contacts between chains, which suggests that differences in oxygen affinity may exist between these various type IV hemoglobins. Type I hemoglobin is less complex because it contains one type of chain and two chains; the latter two differ in numerous positions, suggesting duplications of the (I)-globin gene. The dauer larva is a developmentally arrested, non-feeding dispersal stage normally formed in response to overcrowding and limited food. The daf-1 gene specifies an intermediate step in a hierarchy of genes thought to specify a pathway for neural transduction of environmental cues. Mutations in daf-1 result in constitutive formation of dauer larvae even in abundant food. This gene has been cloned by Tc1-transposon tagging, and it appears to encode a new class of serine/threonine kinase. A daf-1 probe detects a 2.5 kb mRNA of low abundance, and the DNA sequence indicates that the gene encodes a 669 amino acid protein, with a putative transmembrane domain and a C-terminal protein kinase domain most closely related to the cytosolic, raf proto-oncogene family. Hence, the daf-1 product appears to be a cell-surface receptor required for transduction of environmental signals into an appropriate developmental response. 相似文献

Young plants of the two wheat cultivars Katya and Prelom, differing in their reaction to drought in the field, were grown in soil in pots, and their water status was assessed as well as the intensity of gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, and accumulation of compatible solutes and hydrogen peroxide after 7 days of dehydration. It was established that cv. Katya displayed markedly better tolerance to soil drying in comparison with cv. Prelom. This was partly due to the more effective control of water balance, activity of the photosynthetic apparatus, and metabolic activity of leaves under stress. Phosducin-like protein (PhLP) is a widely expressed binding partner of the G protein betagamma subunit complex (Gbetagamma) that has been recently shown to catalyze the formation of the Gbetagamma dimer from its nascent polypeptides. Phosphorylation of PhLP at one or more of three consecutive serines (Ser-18, Ser-19, and Ser-20) is necessary for Gbetagamma dimer formation and is believed to be mediated by the protein kinase CK2. Moreover, several lines of evidence suggest that the cytosolic chaperonin complex (CCT) may work in concert with PhLP in the Gbetagamma-assembly process. The results reported here delineate a mechanism for Gbetagamma assembly in which a stable ternary complex is formed between PhLP, the nascent Gbeta subunit, and CCT that does not include Ggamma. PhLP phosphorylation permits the release of a PhLP x Gbeta intermediate from CCT, allowing Ggamma to associate with Gbeta in this intermediate complex. Subsequent interaction of Gbetagamma with membranes releases PhLP for another round of assembly. 相似文献
