Phenotypic plasticity is the environmental modification of genotypic expression
and an important means by which individual plants respond to environmental heterogeneity.
The study of phenotypic plasticity in the genus Adenophora, which is very complicated taxo nomically because of great morphological variation, proves to be helpful in both investigating
the phenotypic variation so as to evaluate potential taxonomic value of their characters and
providing important sources of information on the variation, adaptation and evolution of the
genus. Twenty-three populations representing all the six species in Adenophora potaninii
complex were transplanted into the garden. Of them six populations were selected for study ing their performance in the field and in the garden, in addition to cultivation experiment
under different treatments. The results show that there exists considerable developmental
plasticity in some leaf, floral and capsule characters. In particular, the leaf shape and length
of calyx lobe display significant developmental variation with the maximum being three times
as great as the minimum, which is noteworthy because they were previously considered as
diagnostic. The characters of root, caudex, stem and inflorescence are found to be very
plastic, especially the root diameter, the number of stems, stem height and inflorescence
length with great environmental plasticity. In addition, the populations from different habi tats show distinct amounts of plasticity. On the contrary, the characters of leaf, floral, cap sule and seed are less influenced by environments. It seems that the considerable variation in
the characters of leaf is attributed mainly to genetic differences. Finally, the phenotypic

The introduction of an α-aminoxy acid into peptide chain dramatically improves the stability of the amide bonds immediately before and after it. Serine proteases play an important role in inflammation via PARs. However, little is known of expression levels of PARs on monocytes of allergic patients, and influence of serine proteases and PARs on TNF-α secretion from monocytes. Using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and flowcytometry techniques, we observed that the expression level of PAR-2 in monocytes of patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma was increased by 42.9 and 38.2 %. It was found that trypsin, thrombin, and tryptase induced up to 200, 320, and 310 % increase in TNF-α release from monocytes at 16 h, respectively. PAR-1 agonist peptide, SFLLR-NH2, and PAR-2 agonist peptide tc-LIGRLO-NH2 provoked up to 210 and 240 % increase in release of TNF-α. Since SCH 79797, a PAR-1 antagonist, and PD98059, an inhibitor of ERK inhibited thrombin- and SFLLR-NH2-induced TNF-α release, the action of thrombin is most likely through a PAR-1- and ERK-mediated signaling mechanism. Similarly, because FSLLRN-NH2, an inhibitor of PAR-2 diminished tryptase- and tc-LIGRLO-NH2-induced TNF-α release, the action of tryptase appears PAR-2 dependent. Moreover, in vivo study showed that both recombinant cockroach major allergens Per a 1 and Per a 7 provoked upregulation of PAR-2 and PAR-1 expression on CD14+ cells in OVA-sensitized mouse peritoneum. In conclusion, increased expression of PAR-2 in monocytes of AR and asthma implicates that PAR-2 likely play a role in allergy. PAR-2- and PAR-1-mediated TNF-α release from monocytes suggests that these unique protease receptors are involved in the pathogenesis of inflammation. 相似文献

The East Himalaya-Hengduan Mountains region is the center of diversity of the genus Primula, and P. sikkimensis is one of the most common members of the genus in the region. In this study, the genetic diversity and structure of P. sikkimensis populations in China were assessed using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) and chloroplast microsatellite markers. The
254 individuals analyzed represented 13 populations. High levels of genetic diversity were revealed by ISSR markers. At the
species level, the expected heterozygosity and Shannon’s index were 0.4032 and 0.5576, respectively. AMOVA analysis showed
that 50.3% of the total genetic diversity was partitioned among populations. Three pairs of chloroplast microsatellite primers
tested yielded a total of 12 size variants and 15 chloroplast haplotypes. Strong cpDNA genetic differentiation (G
ST = 0.697) and evidence for phylogeographic structure were detected (N
ST = 0.788, significantly higher than G
ST). Estimated rates of pollen-mediated gene flow are approximately 27% greater than estimated rates of seed-mediated gene flow
in P. sikkimensis. Both seed and pollen dispersal, however, are limited, and gene flow among populations appears to be hindered by the patchiness
of the species’ habitats and their geographic isolation. These features may have played important roles in shaping the genetic

Background and Objectives
Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is an important therapeutic strategy for patients with carotid artery stenosis. However, the potential influence of CAS on cognitive function in patients with carotid artery stenosis and cerebral lacunar infarction has not been determined. This study investigated changes in cognitive function associated with CAS and the factors related to these changes.Methods
This prospective cohort study comprised 579 Chinese patients with cerebral lacunar infarction and carotid artery stenosis for whom CAS was indicated, and a matched control group of 552 healthy individuals. Cognitive function before CAS and at scheduled intervals from 6 months to 3 years was assessed with instruments that included the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scale. Potential factors that might affect cognitive function were analyzed via logistic regression.Results
The MMSE and MoCA scores of the patients before CAS were significantly lower than that of the control subjects. These scores were significantly higher 6 months after CAS and sustained or increased throughout the 3-year follow-up. Also significantly improved after CAS from baseline were scores for an alternating trail test, cube copying, clock-drawing, attention, and delayed recall in an auditory-verbal learning test. Logistic regression analyses showed that age greater than 65 y, little education, diabetes, and hypertension were independent risk factors for deteriorated MoCA scores 3 years after CAS.Conclusion
CAS was associated with significantly improved cognitive function in cerebral lacunar infarction patients with severe stenosis. 相似文献100.

Tibetan medicine Herpetospermum caudigerum Wall. (HCW) has long been employed to treat hepatitis, inflammatory diseases and jaundice according to the records of “The Four Medical Tantras” in China. This study was investigated to explore the protective effects of HCW on hepatic fibrosis and the possible mechanism in a rat model. Hepatic fibrosis was established by intragastric administration of 3 ml/kg carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) twice a week for 6 weeks. CCl4‐treated rats were received HCW (1 and 3 g/kg/d) and silymarin (0.1 g/kg/d) from 3 to 6 weeks. The results showed that HCW could significantly decrease the levels of AST, ALT, HA, LN, PCIII, Col IV, TNF‐α, IL‐1β and IL‐6. Moreover, HCW could effectively inhibit collagen deposition and reduce the pathological damage. Analysis experiments finally exhibited that HCW was able to markedly inhibit hepatic fibrosis by modulating the expressions of NF‐κB p65, IκBα, Samd3 and TGF‐β1 proteins. Therefore, our results suggest that HCW has hepatoprotective activity against CCl4‐induced hepatic fibrosis in rats by regulating the inflammatory responses. 相似文献
