Sudden widespread hemorrhage, including a hemorrhagic pleural effusion, developed in a patient due to an overdose of anticoagulant. The pleural fluid contained megakaryocytes. Necropsy did not reveal myeloid metaplasia or any myeloproliferative disorder. Since megakaryocytes are normally found in pulmonary parenchyma, their presence in the pleural fluid was attributed to the hemorrhagic condition of the lung, which enabled megakaryocyte-containing blood to enter the pleural cavity. 相似文献

This study compared the cardiac and ventilatory behaviour of disturbed and settled (48 h recovery) ovigerous Cancer pagurus with the behaviour of non‐ovigerous crabs. It also examined the effects of starvation and a sand substrate on ovigerous females. Ovigerous crabs had significantly lower heart rates than non‐ovigerous crabs. This implies that they have a reduced metabolic rate, confirmed by an earlier study which described lower rates of oxygen uptake in ovigerous crabs. Scaphognathite beat frequency was unaffected by either the presence of eggs, starvation or a sand substrate, but the amplitude of ventilatory pressure changes was higher in settled ovigerous females, implying greater force. The duration of periods of reversed ventilation was also substantially extended in ovigerous crabs, and disturbance caused a ten‐fold increase in the frequency of these reversals, resulting in ventilation being carried out in a predominantly reversed direction. It is suggested that these respiratory adaptations serve to ventilate the egg mass. Disturbance also led to a greater elevation of heart rate in ovigerous crabs, indicating that they are more prone to handling stress. Fed ovigerous crabs spent a higher percentage of time ventilating unilaterally; this response was lost following starvation. Starved ovigerous crabs had the lowest mean heart rate, highest mean ventilatory pressures and, when disturbed above a sand substrate, they showed the highest frequency of reversals of ventilation, possibly in association with their efforts to bury their abdomen bearing the egg mass. 相似文献

Individuals of the shore crab Carcinus maenas were exposed to artificial cycles, applied in tidal antiphase, of pairs of the three major environmental variables that entrain circatidal rhythmicity in this species: salinity, temperature, and hydrostatic pressure. During entrainment, the observed locomotor activity patterns were dominated by exogenous responses to high pressure, low temperature, or low salinity. In subsequent constant conditions, many of the crabs showed bimodal circatidal rhythms, with peaks phased to the times of expected high-tide characteristics of high pressure, low temperature, or high salinity. Similar bimodal rhythms were induced by exposing freshly captured crabs, with free-running circatidal rhythms, to tidal antiphase cycles of each of the three environmental variables applied individually. The hypothesis that circatidal rhythmicity in this species is controlled by at least two separate circatidal oscillators, with differential sensitivities to specific cyclical environmental variables, is discussed. 相似文献

The tripeptide sequence arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) has been shown to be the key recognition segment in numerous cell adhesion proteins. The solution conformation and dynamics in DMSO-d6 of the cyclic pentapeptides, [formula: see text], a potent fibrinogen receptor antagonist, and [formula: see text], a weak fibrinogen receptor antagonist, have been characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and molecular modeling. 1H-1H distance constraints derived from two-dimensional NOE spectroscopy and torsional angle constraints obtained from 3JNH-H alpha coupling constants, combined with computer-assisted modeling using conformational searching algorithms and energy minimization have allowed several low energy conformations of the peptides to be determined. Low temperature studies in combination with molecular dynamics simulations suggest that each peptide does not exist in a single, well-defined conformation, but as an equilibrating mixture of conformers in fast exchange on the NMR timescale. The experimental results can be fit by considering pairs of low energy conformers. Despite this inherent flexibility, distinct conformational preferences were found which may be related to the biological activity of the peptides. 相似文献
