Dietary items of predacious aquatic bugs (Nepoidea: Heteroptera) in Japanese wetlands 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1
Some species of predatory aquatic bugs (Nepoidea, including Belostomatidae and Nepidae) are designated as threatened-vulnerable
species in the Red Data Book of Japan and are regarded as effective predators of freshwater snails and mosquito larvae. To reveal the feeding habits of Nepoidea,
we investigated their dietary items in wetlands and obtained data from the published literature. Lethocerus deyrolli (Vuillefroy) preys mainly upon frogs, and the major diet of the nymphs is tadpoles. Laccotrephes japonensis (Scott) adults prey mainly upon tadpoles. Lethocerus deyrolli nymphs and L. japonensis adults compete against each other as same-guild members because they are sympatric in wetlands. Both nymphs and adults of
Appasus japonicus (Vuillefroy) feed on snails, and L. japonensis nymphs feed on aquatic insects, including mosquito larvae (39.3% of aquatic insects). These species are effective predators

The effects of a single injection (40 mg/kg) of 4′-trifluoromethyl-2,3,4,5-tetrachlorobiphenyl (CF3) on hepatic cytochrome P-450 monooxygenases were assessed in rat and syrian hamster. The CF3 treatment significantly increased the total amount of cytochrome P-450 in both species. In rats, CF3 treatment caused marked increases in ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD), arylhydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH), and testosterone 7α-hydroxylase activities but significantly reduced the activities of benzphetamine N-demethylase (BzND), erythromycin N-demethylase (ErND), testosterone 6β, 16α, and 16β-hydroxylases, and formation of androstenedione. Administration of CF3 to hamsters strongly induced the activities of EROD, AHH, BzND, testosterone 15α, and 16α-hydroxylases, and androstenedione production, whereas ErND, testosterone 6β, and 7α-hydroxylases were decreased. Administration of CF3 to rats induced the CYP1A family proteins and CYP2A1, while CF3 reduced the level of CYP2B1, and, to a lesser extent, of CYP6β2. In hamsters, CF3 treatment significantly induced the CYP1A2, CYP2A1, CYP2A8, and CYP2B1 isozymes, whereas the CYP6β2 level was decreased. The ability of hepatic microsomes to activate aflatoxin B1 and benzo(a)pyrene was elevated by CF3 treatment in hamsters, while activation of aflatoxin B1 was decreased in microsomes from CF3-treated rats. Dietary protein but not amino acids stimulates cholecystokinin (CCK) secretion in rat mucosal cells. However, the dietary protein sensory mechanisms and the intracellular signal pathway in the enteroendocrine cells have not yet been clarified. The relationship between dietary protein binding to cell membrane and intracellular calcium responses were examined in the CCK-producing enteroendocrine cell line STC-1. The binding of solubilized STC-1 cell membrane to proteins was analyzed using a surface plasmon resonance sensor. Intracellular calcium concentrations of STC-1 cell suspensions loaded with Fura-2 AM were measured using a spectrafluorophotometer system with continuous stirring. Intracellular calcium concentrations in STC-1 cells were increased by exposure to alpha-casein or casein sodium, but not to bovine serum albumin. Solubilized STC-1 membranes bound to alpha-casein and casein sodium but did not bind to bovine serum albumin. alpha-Casein demonstrated higher membrane binding and intracellular calcium stimulating activities than casein sodium. Thus, protein binding to the STC-1 cell membrane and intracellular calcium responses were correlated. Intracellular calcium responses to alpha-casein were suppressed by an L-type calcium channel blocker. These results suggest that casein, a dietary protein, binds to a putative receptor on the CCK-producing enteroendocrine cell membrane and elicits the subsequent intracellular calcium response via an L-type calcium channel. 相似文献

The effects of difructose anhydride III (DFAIII) on stimulating calcium absorption was investigated in humans. We studied changes in the time-course of characteristics urinary calcium excretion in 12 healthy men given 0.3, 1.0 or 3.0 g of DFAIII and 300 mg of calcium as calcium carbonate. In addition, urinary excretion and urine concentrations of creatinine and deoxypyridinoline were determined. Urine calcium excretion every 2 hours after the intake were higher over than that of the control subjects. The total amount of urinary calcium excretion for 10 hours was significantly greates in the subjects given 1.0 g or 3.0 g of DFAIII than that of the control subjects. However, there were no differences in the urine concentrations of creatinine and deoxypyridinoline between the subjects given DFAIII and the control subjects. These findings suggests that low dose of DFAIII had a stimulating effect on calcium absorption in humans. 相似文献

Methyltransfer reactions are some of the most important reactions in biological systems. Glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT) catalyzes the S-adenosyl-l-methionine- (SAM-) dependent methylation of glycine to form sarcosine. Unlike most SAM-dependent methyltransferases, GNMT has a relatively high value and is weakly inhibited by the product S-adenosyl-l-homocysteine (SAH). The major role of GNMT is believed to be the regulation of the cellular SAM/SAH ratio, which is thought to play a key role in SAM-dependent methyltransfer reactions. Crystal structures of GNMT complexed with SAM and acetate (a potent competitive inhibitor of Gly) and the R175K mutated enzyme complexed with SAM were determined at 2.8 and 3.0 A resolutions, respectively. With these crystal structures and the previously determined structures of substrate-free enzyme, a catalytic mechanism has been proposed. Structural changes occur in the transitions from the substrate-free to the binary complex and from the binary to the ternary complex. In the ternary complex stage, an alpha-helix in the N-terminus undergoes a major conformational change. As a result, the bound SAM is firmly connected to protein and a "Gly pocket" is created near the bound SAM. The second substrate Gly binds to Arg175 and is brought into the Gly pocket. Five hydrogen bonds connect the Gly in the proximity of the bound SAM and orient the lone pair orbital on the amino nitrogen (N) of Gly toward the donor methyl group (C(E)) of SAM. Thermal motion of the enzyme leads to a collision of the N and C(E) so that a S(N)2 methyltransfer reaction occurs. The proposed mechanism is supported by mutagenesis studies. 相似文献

We studied the interpecific competition between 2 species of predatory aquatic bugs, Diplonychus japonicus and D. major by conducting a field experiment. We set up 3 types of experimental plots in the paddy fields where D. major predominated. The two plots contained single species of either D. japonicus or D. major, respectively, and one plot had both species in equal number. We compared the development and the reproductive performance between plots in each species. In D. japonicus, the number of eggs and early instar nymphs were significantly smaller in the plots containing both species than in the monospecific plots. However, the numbers of late instar nymphs and newly emerged adults were not significantly different between plots. The proportions of starved nymphs in both plots were larger than those in the D. japonicus's natural habitats. The final densities of adults in both plots were lower than those in the natural habitats. These results suggest that lower density of D. japonicus in these paddy fields is due to the lack of available food for nymphs rather than the effects of interspecific competition with D. major. In D. major, significant differences were not found in the number of eggs, each instar nymphs and adults. These results suggest that the effects of interspecific competition did not affect the reproductive performance of D. major. 相似文献

Three flavanols, which inhibit root growth in the rice seedling test, have been purified. One was (+)-afzelechin (1) and the other two, named Pia and PIb, were new biflavanols shown by the structures 2 and 3 on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. PIa inhibited the root growth of the peach seedlings. In addition, PIa was found in the soil in the area where the peach trees were growing. The flavanols, therefore, are suggested to be one of the chemical factors causing soil sickness often encountered in peach cultivation. 相似文献

The effects of intraspecific crowding on the different life history parameters of the three tropical and subtropical green leafhoppers, Nephotettix virescensStål ,N. nigropictusDistant and N. malayanusIshihara etKawase , and one temperate species, N. cincticepsUhler , were studied under 25±1°C using the susceptible Japonica rice variety “Nipponbare”. Crowding during the immature stages of the four species prolonged the nymphal developmental period and resulted to smaller adults with reduced fecundity and shorter life span. Similarly, crowding during the adult stage also shortened the life span of both sexes of adults and decreased the fecundity of females of the four species. The effect of crowding during the adult stage was more adverse than the effect of crowding during the immature stages. Effects of odorants on voltage-gated ionic channels were investigated in isolated newt olfactory receptor cells by using the whole cell version of the patch–clamp technique. Under voltage clamp, membrane depolarization to voltages between −90 mV and +40 mV from a holding potential (Vh) of −100 mV generated time-
and voltage-dependent current responses; a rapidly (< 15 ms) decaying initial inward current and a late outward
current. When odorants (1 mM amyl acetate, 1 mM acetophenone, and 1 mM limonene) were applied to the recorded cell, the voltage-gated currents were significantly reduced. The dose-suppression relations of amyl acetate
for individual current components (Na+ current: INa, T-type Ca2+ current: ICa,T, L-type Ca2+ current: ICa,L, delayed
rectifier K+ current: IKv and Ca2+-activated K+ current: IK(Ca)) could be fitted by the Hill equation. Half-blocking
concentrations for each current were 0.11 mM (INa), 0.15 mM (ICa,T), 0.14 mM (ICa,L), 1.7 mM (IKv), and 0.17 mM
(IK(Ca)), and Hill coefficient was 1.4 (INa), 1.0 (ICa,T), 1.1 (ICa,L), 1.0 (IKv), and 1.1 (IK(Ca)), suggesting that the inward current is affected more strongly than the outward current. The activation curve of INa was not changed significantly by amyl acetate, while the inactivation curve was shifted to negative voltages; half-activation voltages were
−53 mV at control, −66 mV at 0.01 mM, and −84 mV at 0.1 mM. These phenomena are similar to the suppressive
effects of local anesthetics (lidocaine and benzocaine) on INa in various preparations, suggesting that both types of
suppression are caused by the same mechanism. The nonselective blockage of ionic channels observed here is

Vibrio vulnificus is a ubiquitous toxigenic bacterium found in a coastal environment but little is known about its occurrence and seasonality among seaweeds, which are widely consumed as seafood in Japan. Therefore, we have observed the bacterium's abundance in seawater and seaweed samples from three areas of the Kii Channel, Japan, during June 2003 to May 2004. A total of 192 samples were collected: 24 from each source in summer, autumn, winter and spring. The samples were selectively cultivated following the most probable number (MPN) technique. Vibrio vulnificus population ranged from 0 to 10(3) MPN 100 mL(-1) seawater or 10 g seaweeds; higher counts were observed during summer. The optimum temperature, salinity and pH for the bacterium were 20-24 degrees C, 24-28 p.p.t. and 7.95-8.15, respectively. However, seaweeds always contained higher V. vulnificus than seawater. Among 280 V. vulnificus strains, detected by species-specific colony hybridization and PCR, 78, 74, 11 and 16 were from seaweeds and 46, 42, 2 and 11 were from seawater during summer, autumn, winter and spring, respectively. Ribotyping of 160 selected strains revealed a higher genotypic diversity (18 patterns) among strains from seaweeds than from seawater (10 patterns). Seaweeds can thus act as a potential habitat for V. vulnificus and are more unsafe for consumption during summer. 相似文献
