The antimicrobial activities of the three diterpene dialdehydes, miogadial, galanal A and galanal B, isolated from flower buds of the myoga (Zingiber mioga Roscoe) plant were investigated with some strains of bacteria, yeasts and molds. Among the three compounds, miogadial exhibited relatively greater antimicrobial activity than the others against Gram-positive bacteria and yeasts. Galanals A and B also behaved as antimicrobial agents against Gram-positive bacteria and yeasts. The content of miogadial in the flower buds was much higher than that in the leaves, whereas galanals A and B were contained at high levels in the leaves and rhizomes. 相似文献

Roles of gravitational loading, sarcomere length, and/or tension development on the electromyogram (EMG) of soleus and afferent neurogram recorded at the L5 segmental level of spinal cord were investigated during parabolic flight of a jet airplane or hindlimb suspension in conscious rats. Both EMG and neurogram levels were increased when the gravity levels were elevated from 1-G to 2-G during the parabolic flight. They were decreased when the hindlimbs were unloaded by exposure to actual microgravity or by suspension. These phenomena were related to passive shortening of muscle fibers and/or sarcomeres. Unloading-related decrease in sarcomere length was greater at the central rather than the proximal and distal regions of fibers. These activities and tension development were not detected when the mean sarcomere length was less than 2.03 micrometers. It is suggested that load-dependent regulation of neuromuscular system is related to the tension development which is influenced by sarcomere length. 相似文献

We investigated the neuroprotective effects of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its influence on the functional recovery of the retina following light-induced retinal damage by electroretinogram (ERG). Rats were exposed to constant fluorescent light for 2, 5, 7, or 14 days, then returned to a cyclic light environment for 14 days. The result indicated that BDNF had few effects on the a-wave amplitude, but there was a statistically significant difference in the b-wave amplitudes between BDNF-treated and control eyes from day 0-14 of the recovery period following 2 days of light exposure (p < 0.05). Our findings suggest that BDNF not only protects the retinal neuronal function but also enhances the recovery from retinal light damage. 相似文献

Accumulation of a 31-kDa glycoprotein in association with the expression of embryogenic potential by spinach callus in culture 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Calli grown from segments of spinach ( Spinacia oleracea L.) root in the presence of gibberellic acid (GA3 ) plus auxin, differentiated to yield somatic embryos after transfer to a medium without growth regulators, while calli formed in the absence of GA3 failed to generate any embryos. We extracted proteins from the two types of callus and analysed them by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Compared with the proteins from calli formed on medium that contained only naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) as a growth regulator, the proteins from calli grown in the presence of GA3 included appreciably higher levels of a 31-kDa basic protein (pI = 8.8). The protein resembled type I ribosome-inactivating proteins (EC 3.2.2.22) in terms of molecular mass, isoelectric point, sequence of amino-terminal amino acids and extent of glycosylation. The 31-kDa protein was barely detectable in extracts of various tissues from seedlings. Thus, it is possible that an increase in the relative level of this protein might be associated with the expression of embryogenic potential expressed by spinach callus. 相似文献

The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-Akt pathway suppresses Bax translocation to mitochondria 总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12
Bax, a proapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family, localizes largely in the cytoplasm but redistributes to mitochondria in response to apoptotic stimuli, where it induces cytochrome c release. In this study, we show that the phosphatidylinositol 3-OH kinase (PI3K)-Akt pathway plays an important role in the regulation of Bax subcellular localization. We found that LY294002, a PI3K inhibitor, blocked the effects of serum to prevent Bax translocation to mitochondria and that expression of an active form of PI3K suppressed staurosporine-induced Bax translocation, suggesting that PI3K activity is essential for retaining Bax in the cytoplasm. In contrast, both U0126, a MEK inhibitor, and active MEK had little effect on Bax localization. In respect to downstream effectors of PI3K, we found that expression of active Akt, but not serum and glucocorticoid-induced protein kinase (SGK), suppressed staurosporine-induced translocation of Bax, whereas dominant negative Akt moderately promoted Bax translocation. Expression of Akt did not alter the levels of Bax, Bcl-2, Bcl-X(L), or phosphorylated JNK under the conditions used, suggesting that there were alternative mechanisms for Akt in the suppression of Bax translocation. Collectively, these results suggest that the PI3K-Akt pathway inhibits Bax translocation from cytoplasm to mitochondria and have revealed a novel mechanism by which the PI3K-Akt pathway promotes survival. 相似文献

The complete nucleotide sequence of the large linear plasmid pSLA2-L in Streptomyces rochei strain 7434AN4 has been determined. pSLA2-L was found to be 210 614 bp long with a GC content of 72.8% and carries 143 open reading frames. It is especially noteworthy that three-quarters of the pSLA2-L DNA is occupied by secondary metabolism-related genes, namely two type I polyketide synthase (PKS) gene clusters for lankacidin and lankamycin, a mithramycin synthase-like type II PKS gene cluster, a carotenoid biosynthetic gene cluster and many regulatory genes. In particular, the lankacidin PKS is unique, because it may be a mixture of modular- and iterative-type PKSs and carries a fusion protein of non-ribosomal peptide synthetase and PKS. It is also interesting that all the homologues of the afsA, arpA, adpA and strR genes in the A-factor regulatory cascade in Streptomyces griseus were found on pSLA2-L, and disruption of the afsA homologue caused non-production of both lankacidin and lankamycin. These results, together with the finding of three possible replication origins at 50-63 kb from the right end, suggest that the present form of pSLA2-L might have been generated by a series of insertions of the biosynthetic gene clusters into the left side of the original plasmid. 相似文献

Sugar-pendant [60] fullerene derivatives have been prepared from carbohydrate-linked azides 1a-e. Both monosugar (4a-e) and bissugar derivatives (5a-e) produce singlet oxygen ((1)O(2)) under laser irradiation (355 nm) proved by the direct observation of (1)O(2) emission at 1270 nm.
