Enzymes of the reductive pentose phosphate cycle including ribulose-diphosphate carboxylase, ribulose-5-phosphate kinase, ribose-5-phosphate isomerase, aldolase, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and alkaline fructose-1,6-diphos-phatase were shown to be present in autotrophically grown Rhodospirillum rubrum. Enzyme levels were measured in this organism grown photo- and dark heterotrophically as well. Several, but not all, of these enzymes appeared to be under metabolic control, mediated by exogenous carbon and nitrogen compounds. Light had no effect on the presence or levels of any of these enzymes in this photosynthetic bacterium.
The enzymes of the tricarboxylic acid cycle and enolase were shown to be present in R. rubrum cultured aerobically, autotrophically, or photoheterotrophically, both in cultures evolving hydrogen and under conditions where hydrogen evolution is not observed. Light had no clearly demonstrable effect on the presence or levels of any of these enzymes.

Metal Hydride systems are an important research topic in material science because of their many practical, industrial, and scientific applications. Therefore, the development of reliable and efficient interatomic potentials for metal hydrides systems, to be utilised in molecular simulations, can be of great value in accelerating the research in this field. In this paper, a fully analytical interatomic Embedded Atom Potential (EAM) for the Pd-H system has been developed, that can be easily extended to ternary Palladium-based hydride systems. The new potential has fewer fitting parameters than previously developed EAM Pd-H potentials and can better predict the cohesive energy, lattice constant, bulk modulus, elastic constants, and the stable alloy crystal structures during molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for various hydrogen concentrations. A genetic colour polymorphism is present in bluefin killifish Lucania goodei, where red and yellow anal‐fin morphs coexist in clear springs, but the source of balancing selection is unknown. In a field study, vertical distributions did not differ between the morphs and there was little evidence that light environments differed qualitatively over the 200 cm at which fish were collected. A greenhouse study showed that both morphs preferred to spawn at shallow depths and hence vertical distribution and spawning site choice are unlikely to explain the maintenance of the colour polymorphism. 相似文献

Egg viability in the rainbow darter Etheostoma caeruleum, a fish apparently lacking female mate choice, was found to decline rapidly after ovulation. It was observed that the majority of a female's clutch may fail to hatch if she is prevented from mating for as little as 6 h. These data suggest that exercising female mate preferences may be selectively disfavoured in E. caeruleum due to the high cost of delaying mating. 相似文献

N tau-methylimidazole acetic acid (N tau-MIAA) is the principal urinary metabolite of histamine. The basal urinary excretion rate of N tau-MIAA was determined as 0.117 +/- 0.008 (SE) mg/h, with a renal clearance for N tau-MIAA of 273 +/- 27 ml/min implying active secretion. After subpharmacological infusion of histamine (50 ng.kg-1.min-1 over 2 h) in five volunteers that increased plasma histamine from 0.28 +/- 0.04 to 0.71 +/- 0.15 ng/ml, urinary excretion of N tau-MIAA over 8 h was increased by less than 17% compared with a control saline infusion. Urinary N tau-MIAA excretion in normal controls (273 +/- 14 micrograms/mmol creatinine) was similar to that observed in patients with severe acute asthma (253 +/- 22 micrograms/mmol), antigen-induced bronchoconstriction (269 +/- 21 micrograms/mmol), seasonal allergic rhinitis (304 +/- 31 micrograms/mmol), and clinically stable bronchiectasis (270 +/- 22 micrograms/mmol). In contrast, large increases in metabolite excretion (greater than 7,000 micrograms/mmol creatinine) were observed in a patient with systemic mastocytosis where very high plasma histamine levels were recorded (greater than 500 ng/ml) and marked systemic hemodynamic effects occurred. We conclude that urinary N tau-MIAA will only be increased in pathologies where sustained hyperhistaminemia occurs and that increased local histamine production in the lung or the upper airway does not cause a measurable change in the basal urinary excretion of this metabolite. 相似文献

We have characterized the polarity of the transferrin receptor in the epithelial Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cell line. The receptor is present in approximately 165,000 copies per cell, migrates as a diffuse band upon SDS gel electrophoresis with Mr 90,000, displays a dissociation constant for diferritransferrin at neutral pH of approximately 2 nM, and is active in essentially all of the cells of the population. Transferrin-mediated 55Fe uptake was used to measure the polarity of active transferrin receptors in filter-grown MDCK cells. The ratio of basolateral to apical receptors was approximately 800:1 for the high resistance strain I MDCK cells (typically greater than 2,000 ohm X cm2) and approximately 300:1 for the lower resistance strain II cells (less than 350 ohm X cm2). In combination with morphometric data this shows that a difference in resistance between these two strains is not reflected in a significant difference in cell surface polarity. We used the recycling of transferrin receptor in filter-grown MDCK cells to evaluate the accuracy of the sorting of a basolateral protein during endocytosis. Monitoring the amount of apically released 125I-labeled transferrin after application of 55Fe- and 125I-labeled transferrin to the basolateral surface provided a sensitive assay of the accuracy of sorting during recycling of the receptor from endosomes to the plasma membrane. The accuracy of transferrin receptor sorting (greater than 99.88%) during a single cycle of transit between the endosome and the plasma membrane is sufficient to maintain the high level of polarity of the cell. 相似文献
