The structure of the [Fe(bzimpy)2](ClO4)2·xH2O system (x = 0.25) was determined by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. The Fe(II) ion is hexacoordinated by six donor nitrogen atoms. The magnetic properties of the complex were investigated by powder magnetic susceptibility measurements and ESR. The freshly prepared sample does not show any traces of iron(III) impurities but these are formed as a function of time. After 1 year the sample contains 8.2% iron(III) as shown by UV spectroscopy and indicated by geff = 4.3 and 2.0 in its ESR spectrum. This explains the recorded ξ versus T behaviour at low temperature: with increasing temperature the ξ value decreases according to the Curie-Weiss law for a S = 5/2 system having an effective g = 4.3. Above 220 K a continuous increase in the ξ value is observed and a spin crossover applies. The spin transition is not complete at room temperature. A pronounced hysteresis is observed upon heating/cooling the sample between 220 and 414 K on the basis of magnetic data and infrared spectra.  相似文献

Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) usually shows an X-linked recessive mode of inheritance caused by mutations in the vasopressin type 2 receptor gene (AVPR2). In the present study, three NDI families are described in which females show clinical features resembling the phenotype in males. Maximal urine osmolality in three female patients did not exceed 200 mosmol/kg and the absence of extra-renal responses to 1-desamino-8-d-arginine vasopressin was demonstrated in two of them. All affected females and two asymptomatic female family members were shown to be heterozygous for an AVPR2 mutation. Skewed X-inactivation is the most likely explanation for the clinical manifestation of NDI in female carriers of an AVPR2 mutation. It is concluded that, in female NDI patients, the possibility of heterozygosity for an AVPR2 gene mutation has to be considered in addition to homozygosity for mutations in the aquaporin 2 gene.  相似文献

The effect of monocular deprivation (covering one eye on the 11th posnatal day) and rearing in darkness (the animals were born, developed, and killed with total exclusion of light) on development of -adrenergic, serotoninergic, muscarinic cholinergic, glutamatergic, and benzodiazepine receptors in primary visual structures (visual cortex, lateral geniculate body, superior colliculus, and retina) was investigated in rats. For quantitative analysis of neurotransmitter receptors, the technique of ligand binding was used. It was shown that monocular deprivation affects the development of -adrenergic, serotoninergic, and glutaminergic receptors mainly in the lateral geniculate body and retina, whereas rearing in darkness affects mainly the development of serotoninergic receptors in the superior colliculus. The development of receptors of the cholinergic neurotransmitter system is disturbed only temporarily by visual deprivation. Changes found in receptor development after visual deprivation indicate altered activity of different neurotransmitter systems in corresponding visual structures.P. Summary Filamentous bacteria were isolated from bulking activated sludge and identified as Herpetosiphon spec. The Gram-negative filaments are more than 500 m long and they show gliding motility. The bacteria grown in artificial media (J- or EC-medium), in shaken cultures yield about 3 g cells per liter. Optimum growth was observed at 25°C and pH 7.2. The colonies are either uncoloured or bright red depending on the cultivation medium. The isolated bacteria exhibit lytic activity towards cells of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The G+C ratio of the five strains from different bulking sludge samples was found to be between 48.7 moles% and 49.0 moles%.  相似文献

The cell-wall polysaccharides from different parts of maize roots have been analysed. The arabinose, galactose and mannose contents are influenced by cell differentiation, whereas xylose, rhamnose and uronic-acid contents are not. In cap cells, the pectin content is low but rhamnose and fucose are present in larger quantities. The cell-wall polysaccharides from cells of the elongation zone and their respective regenerating protoplasts were also analysed. The walls of the protoplasts contained higher xylose and mannose levels and a much lower level of cellulose than the cells from which they were derived.  相似文献

The nucleotide sequences of four cDNA clones, each representing the carboxyterminal portion of a bovine epidermal cytokeratin of the "basic" (type II) subfamily, were determined, i.e., components Ia (Mr 68,000), Ib (Mr 68,000), III (Mr 60,000), and IV (Mr 59,000). The comparison of the sequences with each other and with the human type-II cytokeratin of Mr 56,000 reported by Hanukoglu and Fuchs [24] allows the following conclusions: The four major epidermal keratins of the basic (type II) subfamily, which are co-expressed in keratinocytes of the bovine muzzle, exhibit a high homology (greater than 90%) in the alpha-helical portion, but differ considerably in their nonhelical carboxy-terminal regions. The nonhelical carboxyterminal regions of all four cytokeratins are exceptionally rich in glycine and serine. Within the extrahelical tail, three different domains can be distinguished. The consensus sequence TYR(X)LLEGE which demarcates the end of the alpha-helical rod in all intermediate filaments is followed by a relatively short (22-27 amino acids) intercept rich in hydroxy amino acids and valine (carboxyterminal tail domain C1). This is followed by a long region that is variable in size and sequence, rich in glycine di-, tri-, and tetrapeptides, and contains diverse repeated sequences (domain C2). This is followed by another short (20 residues) hydroxy-amino-acid-rich intercept (domain C3) that ends with a conspicuously basic sequence of approximately four to six carboxyterminal amino acids. The first half of domain C1 is also homologous in all four keratins, suggesting that this region also assumes a common conformation and/or serves a special common function.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Summary Differentiation of spermatids to mature spermatozoa in the bryozoan Tubulipora liliacea was studied by transmission electron microscopy. The spermatozoon of Tubulipora is of a filiform, modified type, and has evolved from the primitive type as an adaptation to a specialized biology of fertilization. The head of the spermatozoon consists of a small, conical acrosome capping an elongated, cylindrical, anteriorly tapering nucleus. A basal invagination in the nucleus contains the proximal portion of the axoneme and a dense attachment matrix. The flagellar axoneme has the typical 9+2 structure. Four elongated rodshaped mitochondria with typical cristae surround the axoneme in the cylindrical middle piece. Granular electron-dense material is accumulated in the form of four columns alternating with four long cylindrical mitochondria. The mitochondrial middle piece is separated externally from the tail region by an involution of the plasma membrane. The tail region contains a cytoplasmic sheath with accessory fibers surrounding the axoneme. Nine outer, coarse fibers extend posteriorly paralleling the nine doublets of the axoneme. The coarse fibers develop from electron-dense plate-like structures associated with the doublets of the axoneme. A characteristic feature in spermiogenesis is that spermatozoa develop in tetrads. There seem to be significant differences in spermatozoan ultrastructure between the three bryozoan classes Stenolaemata, Gymnolaemata, and Phylactolaemata. Zusammenfassung Bei Haustauben, die in einem horizontalen Windkanal mit 48 km/h stationär flogen, wurden mit Hilfe von Zeitlupenanalysen Schlagphasen nachgewiesen, die dem vonWeis-Fogh (1973) geforderten clap-and-fling Mechanismus entsprechen. Am Ende des Aufschlags schlagen die beiden Flügel mit der morphologischen Oberseite ± vollständig zusammen (clap). Vor dem Abschlag öffnen sie sich wie die Seiten eines Buches von vorn nach hinten (fling); erst am Ende dieser Phase entfernen sie sich voneinander. Weitere feinkinematische Ergebnisse werden mitgeteilt. Diese instationären Schlagphasen werden insbesondere dann eingesetzt, wenn hohe Luftkräfte benötigt werden. Die Kinematik der Flügelbewegung ist demnach so beschaffen, daß durch frühzeitige Zirkulationsinduzierung bereits ganz zu Beginn des Abschlags hohe Auftriebskräfte erzeugt werden könnten. Es wird diskutiert, daß der clap-and-fling Mechanismus auch für rasche Beschleunigungen bei hohem Schubbedarf eingesetzt werden könnte.
Evidence for a clap-and-fling mechanism in pigeons flying in a windtunnel
Summary Slow motion pictures of pigeons flying horizontally at a speed of 48 km/h in a windtunnel have shown flight patterns which seemed to be similar to the clap-and-fling mechanism discribed byWeis-Fogh (1973) for small insects. At the end of upstroke, both upper surfaces of the wings come together ± completely (clap). Before downstroke, the wings are opened like the pages of a book (fling). This instationary wingbeat pattern is used especially when high aerodynamic forces are needed. The clap-and-fling mechanism enables the bird to establish an early circulation so that, at the very beginning of downstroke, high lift forces can be produced. The question whether the clap-and-fling mechanism is also used for quick accelerations when greater thrust is required is also discussed.

The effect of placebo and ACTH-1-17 (Synchrodyn®, Hoechst) upon urinary free cortisol was examined at 5 different circadian stages on 10 men with Steinbrocker Stage II–III rheumatoid arthritis. A mean cosinor analysis of urinary cortisol data from the subjects prior to treatment with either ACTH or placebo revealed a statistically highly-significant rhythm. A circadian variation in a response of urinary free cortisol to a placebo was also seen. Moreover, the response of the midline-estimating statistic of rhythm (rhythm-adjusted circadian average) of urinary free cortisol to ACTH-1-17 by patients with rheumatoid arthritis is circadian rhythmic. This reactivity rhythm is out of phase with the spontaneous rhythm in urinary cortisol acrophases—in the tests limited thus far to midsummer. The further assessment of the circadian component in the context of broader interactions by rhythms with other frequencies in various conditions in health and disease is warranted by the demonstration of rhythms here presented for men with rheumatoid arthritis.  相似文献
