From a total woody flora of ca. 1000 species, a suite of 121 species forms an oligarchy dominating the cerrado biome. This mirrors patterns of dominance described in western Amazonian rain forests. Widespread sampling shows that across the biome this suite of species contributes on average 66% of the total species composition, and 75% of the total Importance Value Index in cerrado communities. An analysis of the floristic similarity between six cerrado phytogeographic provinces (southern, central and south-eastern, central-western, far-western, north-eastern, disjunct Amazonian) reveals great heterogeneity within the biome, principally of the less common species. Of the 951 species recorded from 375 floristic surveys across the biome, 494 species (more than half of the total) are found in only one of the provinces, with very few species (37, i.e., 3.9%) found in all six provinces. Each of the provinces contains a significant number of species which are apparently confined to it, ranging from 15 species (1.6% of the total woody cerrado flora) in the far-western province (primarily in the state of Rondônia) to 162 species (17%) in the central-western province. At the local level, floristic similarity can be very high. An analysis of the floristic composition of 13 sites within the Federal District shows a woody flora of 236 species, indicating that 25% of the total woody flora of the cerrado biome is represented in 0.3% of its area, illustrating the great conservation importance of this region. Floristic similarity between sites within the Federal District is high, although much of this similarity is accounted for by oligarch species which account for between 59 and 89% of total species recorded per site. Informed conservation judgements within the cerrado need to take account of regional floristic patterns to ensure maximum protection of biodiversity, as the majority of species are not geographically widespread within the biome. 相似文献

To establish the changes which occur during embryogenesis and early larvae development, eggs, yolk-sac larvae (one day old larvae) and absorbed yolk-sac larvae (three day old larvae) of white sea bream were examined for lipid class and fatty acid composition. The development was characterized by a decrease in all lipid classes with the exception of phosphatidylserine (PS) and fatty free acids (FFA) which increased, and sphingomyelin (SM) which remained unchanged. The changes observed in lipid class content and the decrease in fatty acids in total lipid (TL) reflect the utilization and mobilization of lipids during both embryogenesis and early larvae development. Fluctuations in the relative composition of fatty acids in phosphatidylcholine (PC) during development suggest a selective bulk uptake and catabolism of fatty acids in this lipid class. Unlike PC, catabolism of triacylglycerol (TG) fatty acid appears to be non-selective. During development, the decrease in levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) eicosapentaenoic (20:5n-3, EPA) and docosahexaenoic (22:6n-3, DHA) in total lipid denotes their utilization as energy substrate by Diplodus sargus larvae. 相似文献

The intracellular enzymes xylose reductase (XR, EC 1.1.1.21) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XD, EC 1.1.1.9) from Candida guilliermondii, grown in sugar cane bagasse hydrolysate, were separated by reversed micelles of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) cationic surfactant. An experimental design was employed to optimize the extraction conditions of both enzymes. Under these conditions (temperature = 5 degree C, hexanol: isooctane proportion = 5% (v/v), 22 %, surfactant concentration = 0.15M, pH = 7.0 and electrical conductivity = 14 mScm(-1)) recovery values of about 100 and 80% were achieved for the enzymes XR and XD, respectively. The purity of XR and XD increased 5.6- and 1.8-fold, respectively. The extraction process caused some structural modifications in the enzymes molecules, as evidenced by the alteration of K(M) values determined before and after extraction, either in regard to the substrate (up 35% for XR and down 48% for XD) or cofactor (down 29% for XR and up 11% for XD). However, the average variation of V(max) values for both enzymes was not higher than 7%, indicating that the modified affinity of enzymes for their respective substrates and cofactors, as consequence of structural modifications suffered by them during the extraction, are compensated in some extension. This study demonstrated that liquid-liquid extraction by CTAB reversed micelles is an efficient process to separate the enzymes XR and XD present in the cell extract, and simultaneously increase the enzymatic activity and the purity of both enzymes produced by C. guilliermondii. 相似文献

This article describes the culture of epithelial cells from anterior and posterior midgut regions of adult Dendroctonus valens. Culture conditions were established, and cell adherence was improved by means of a new technique that allowed the cells to grow between two glass coverslips. Cytoplasmic projections occur as anterior midgut cells grow to confluence; these projections were not observed in cells of the posterior midgut. The optimal culture medium for the maintenance of these epithelial cells was Roswell Park Memorial Institute 1640 medium at 25 degrees C. Cells in Grace's medium died in 24 h. Cultures did not require CO(2) atmosphere, but culture development was favored by the microaerophilic environment and the dark conditions in which the cells were grown, between the coverslips. 相似文献

Hereditary non-syndromic sensorineural hearing loss (NSSHL) is a genetically highly heterogeneous group of disorders. Autosomal dominant forms account for up to 20% of cases. To date, 39 loci have been identified by linkage analysis of affected families that segregate NSSHL forms in the autosomal dominant mode (DFNA). Investigation of a large Spanish pedigree with autosomal dominant inheritance of bilateral and progressive NSSHL of postlingual onset excluded linkage to known DFNA loci and, in a subsequent genome-wide scan, the disorder locus was mapped to 3q28-29. A maximum two-point LOD score of 4.36 at theta=0 was obtained for marker D3S1601. Haplotype analysis placed the novel locus, DFNA44, within a 3-cM genetic interval defined by markers D3S1314 and D3S2418. Heteroduplex analysis and DNA sequencing of coding regions and exon/intron boundaries of two genes (CLDN16 and FGF12) in this interval did not reveal disease-causing mutations. 相似文献

Neural oscillation is one of the most extensively investigated topics of artificial neural networks. Scientific approaches
to the functionalities of both natural and artificial intelligences are strongly related to mechanisms underlying oscillatory
activities. This paper concerns itself with the assumption of the existence of central pattern generators (CPGs), which are the plausible neural architectures with oscillatory capabilities, and presents a discrete and generalized
approach to the functionality of locomotor CPGs of legged animals. Based on scheduling by multiple edge reversal (SMER), a primitive and deterministic distributed algorithm, it is shown how oscillatory building block (OBB) modules can be created and, hence, how OBB-based networks can be formulated as asymmetric Hopfield-like neural networks
for the generation of complex coordinated rhythmic patterns observed among pairs of biological motor neurons working during
different gait patterns. It is also shown that the resulting Hopfield-like network possesses the property of reproducing the
whole spectrum of different gaits intrinsic to the target locomotor CPGs. Although the new approach is not restricted to the
understanding of the neurolocomotor system of any particular animal, hexapodal and quadrupedal gait patterns are chosen as
illustrations given the wide interest expressed by the ongoing research in the area.

Research on bee communication has focused on the ability of the highly social bees, stingless bees (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini) and honeybees (Apidae, Apini), to communicate food location to nest-mates. Honeybees can communicate food location through the famous waggle dance. Stingless bees are closely related to honeybees and communicate food location through a variety of different mechanisms, many of which are poorly understood. We show that a stingless bee, Trigona hyalinata, uses a pulsed mass-recruitment system that is highly focused in time and space. Foragers produced an ephemeral, polarized, odour trail consisting of mandibular gland secretions. Surprisingly, the odour trail extended only a short distance away from the food source, instead of providing a complete trail between the nest and the food source (as has been described for other stingless bees). This abbreviated trail may represent an intermediate strategy between full-trail marking, found in some stingless bees, and odour marking of the food alone, found in stingless bees and honeybees. 相似文献

Cell killing by avian leukosis virus subgroup B (ALV-B) in cultures has been extensively studied, but the molecular basis of this process has not been established. Here we show that superinfection, which has been linked to cell killing by ALV-B, plays no crucial role in cell death induction. Instead, we show that signaling by the ALV-B receptor, TVB(S3), a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family, is essential for ALV-B-mediated cell death. TVB(S3) activated caspase-dependent apoptosis during ALV-B infection. Strikingly, apoptosis induction occurred predominantly in uninfected cells, while ALV-B-infected cells were protected against cell death. This bystander killing phenomenon was reproduced in a virus-free system by cocultivating ALV-B Env-expressing cells with TVB(S3)-expressing cells. Taken together, our results indicated that ALV-B-mediated apoptosis is triggered by ALV-B Env-TVB(S3) interactions. 相似文献

The impact of commonly used organophosphate (chlorpyrifos, methamidophos), carbamate (carbaryl), and pyrethroid (cypermethrin) insecticides on insect natural enemies was compared with that of a nucleopolyhedrovirus (Baculoviridae) of Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera Noctuidae) in maize grown in southern Mexico. Analyses of the SELECTV and Koppert Side Effects (IOBC) databases on the impact of synthetic insecticides on arthropod natural enemies were used to predict approximately 75-90% natural enemy mortality after application, whereas the bioinsecticide was predicted to have no effect. Three field trails were performed in mid- and late-whorl stage maize planted during the growing season in Chiapas State, Mexico. Synthetic insecticides were applied at product label recommended rates using a manual knapsack sprayer fitted with a cone nozzle. The biological pesticide was applied at a rate of 3 x 10(12) occlusion bodies (OBs)/ha using identical equipment. Pesticide impacts on arthropods on maize plants were quantified at intervals between 1 and 22 d postapplication. The biological insecticide based on S. frugiperda nucleopolyhedrovirus had no adverse effect on insect natural enemies or other nontarget insect populations. Applications of the carbamate, pyrethroid, and organophosphate insecticides all resulted in reduced abundance of insect natural enemies, but for a relatively short period (8-15 d). Pesticide applications made to late-whorl stage maize resulted in lesser reductions in natural enemy populations than applications made at the mid-whorl stage, probably because of a greater abundance of physical refuges and reduced spray penetration of late-whorl maize. 相似文献
