The variation and composition of Mexican wild trout mitochondrial DNA haplotypes throughout northwestern Mexico was determined by means of polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment polymorphism analysis (PCR–RFLP), of one region of mitochondrial DNA between cytochrome b and the D-loop. This analysis was based on 261 specimens taken in 12 basins and four hatcheries from northwestern Mexico. From 23 haplotypes, 15 wild trout haplotypes were identified and classified in four groups: (1) one restricted to Nelson’s trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss nelsoni), (2) four restricted to Río Mayo and RíoYaqui trout (O. mykiss sspp.), (3) six to Mexican golden trout (O. chrysogaster) with two subgroups, and (4) one exclusive to Río Piaxtla trout. Distributions of native haplotypes broadly overlap the distribution of non-native hatchery rainbow trout reflecting the historical management of introductions of exotic rainbow trout and the artificial transference of these trout among basins.  相似文献

The ontogeny of the viscerocranial skeleton of sea bream Sparus aurata larvae was studied from 1 to 90 days post-hatching. In the smallest specimens analysed at 2·7 mm L N no cephalic elements were present and at 3·1 mm L N the following cartilaginous structures were visible: trabecula cranii, auditory capsule, Meckel's cartilage, quadrate, hyosymplectic cartilage, sclerotic, hypohyal, ceratohyal epihyal cartilage, interhyal, hypobranchial 1 and ceratobranchial 1. The only structure ossified at this size is the maxillary and the next ossified structures to appear are the preopercle and opercle at about 3·7 mm L N. The last bones to appear are infraorbital 2 and 6 at 15·1 mm L S. The first cartilaginous elements and structures to ossify in S. aurata appear to be related with functional requirements, so that structures involved directly in feeding and breathing generally appear and ossify before those that are not. The ontogeny of different regional structures revealed that generally the dermal bones ossify before the cartilage replacement bones. Comparison of S. aurata viscerocranial skeleton ontogeny with that of phylogenetically distant fish demonstrates that different ossification strategies exist in higher and lower teleost fish.  相似文献

The geographic origins of African slave settlers and the Portuguese genetic contribution to the population of S?o Tomé (Gulf of Guinea) were assessed through the analysis of beta-globin haplotypes in 44 chromosomes bearing the betaS allele and through the study of the genetic variation in eight autosomal markers (APOA1, AT3, FY, LPL, OCA2, RB1, Sb19.3, and GC) informative for admixture in a sample of 224 individuals. The observed betaS haplotype distribution (36.4% Bantu, 52.3% Benin, 4.5% Cameroon, 4.5% Senegal, and 2.3% atypical) is in accordance with the historical information on the major geographic sources of slave settlers of S?o Tomé, although it captures a more important contribution of Central-West Africa regions than previously anticipated. European admixture, estimated to be 10.7 +/- 0.9%, has created a considerable level of genetic structure, as indicated by the finding of significant linkage disequilibrium between 33% of unlinked marker loci pairs. Recent admixture was found to have an important contribution to these values, since removal of individuals with Portuguese or Cape Verdian parents or grandparents from the sample dropped the miscegenation level to 6.5 +/- 0.8% and reduced significant linkage disequilibrium to 11% of unlinked marker pairs. Taken together, these results indicate that the peopling of S?o Tomé might have provided one of the first examples of the combination of diverse African contributions and European admixture that emerged from the overseas population relocations promoted by the Atlantic slave trade.  相似文献

The structures of the first and the second transmembrane segment of the bovine mitochondrial oxoglutarate carrier (OGC) were studied by circular dichroism (CD) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. Peptides 21-46 and 78-108 of its primary sequence were synthesized and structurally characterized in membrane-mimetic environments. CD data showed that at high concentrations of TFE (>50%) and SDS (>2%) both peptides assume alpha-helical structures, whereas in more hydrophilic environments only peptide 78-108 has a helical structure. (1)H-NMR spectra of the two peptides in TFE/water and SDS were fully assigned, and the secondary structures of the peptides were obtained from nuclear Overhauser effects, (3)J(alphaH-NH) coupling constants and alphaH chemical shifts. The three-dimensional solution structures of the peptides in TFE/water were generated by distance geometry calculations. A well-defined alpha-helix was found in the region K24-V39 of peptide 21-46 and in the region A86-F106 of peptide 78-108. We cannot exclude that in intact OGC the extension of these helices is longer. The helix of peptide 21-46 is essentially hydrophobic, whereas that of peptide 78-108 is predominantly hydrophilic.  相似文献

Neutral and cationic tripyridylporphyrin-D-galactose conjugates were synthesized and their antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was evaluated. At non-cytotoxic concentrations the studied compounds show significant antiviral activity after photoactivation. The influence of photoactivation on drug treated cells was also analyzed, at different times of infection with HSV-1, for a neutral (1b) and a cationic glycoporphyrin (3b) derivative. The results show that the inhibition of the viral yield is more dependent on photoactivation for compound 1b than for compound 3b. These two compounds also differ in the inhibitory effect during the viral replicative cycle: while compound 3b inhibits the viral yield at all the addition times assayed, compound 1b is more efficient in later times of infection.  相似文献

The surface activity and interaction with lipid monolayers and bilayers of the antitumour ether lipid 1-O-octadecyl-2-O-methyl-rac-glycero-3-phosphocholine (edelfosine) have been studied. Edelfosine is a surface-active soluble amphiphile, with critical micellar concentrations at 3.5 μM and 19 μM in water. When the air-water interface is occupied by a phospholipid, edelfosine becomes inserted in the phospholipid monolayer, increasing surface pressure. This increase is dose-dependent, and reaches a plateau at ca. 2 μM edelfosine bulk concentration. The ether lipid can become inserted in phospholipid monolayers with initial surface pressures of up to 33 mN/m, which ensures its capacity to become inserted into cell membranes. Upon interaction with phospholipid vesicles, edelfosine exhibits a weak detergent activity, causing release of vesicle contents to a low extent (< 5%), and a small proportion of lipid solubilization. The weak detergent properties of edelfosine can be related to its very low critical micellar concentrations. Its high affinity for lipid monolayers combined with low lytic properties support the use of edelfosine as a clinical drug. The surface-active properties of edelfosine are similar to those of other “single-chain” lipids, e.g. lysophosphatidylcholine, palmitoylcarnitine, or N-acetylsphingosine.  相似文献

Type localities and/or central populations of coastal and inland killifishes along the peninsula of Baja California were sampled to survey the biometric and allozymic relationships among them. The standard stepwise discriminatory function analysis of biometric characters classified organisms into three well distinctive groups (p < 0.001). The number of scales in the lateral series successfully split the species, while the caudal length/standard length ratio did so between subspecies. Two diagnostic loci (PROT–2* and AAT–2*) segregated private alleles in each taxon. Fundulus lima showed lower genetic variability levels than F. parvipinnis spp., in both polymorphism (18.8% in F. lima vs. 25.0% in F. parvipinnisspp.) and expected heterozygosity (0.060 in F. lima vs 0.099 in F. p. brevis and 0.089 in F. p. parvipinnis). The reduced genetic variability in the threatened species F. lima may be related to its evolutionary history. Nei's genetic distance between F. lima and F. p. parvipinnis was 0.247, while 0.075 between F. parvipinnis spp.  相似文献

The pectoral fin girdle was the first element of the fins to develop in Sparus aurata. By 3·1mm L N (notochord length) the cleithrum was ossified and the cartilaginous caracoid-scapula was present. The fin was fully developed at 11·6 mm L S (standard length) and by 16·0 mm L S most elements of the fin were ossified. The pelvic fins were the last pair to develop and rudiments of these were first detected at 7·9 mm L S. The pelvic fin and girdle were completely formed and ossified at 16·0 mm L S. The development of dorsal and anal fins began at c. 6·5–7·0 mm L S with the formation of 10 cartilaginous dorsal proximal radials and eight cartilaginous ventral proximal radials. The three cartilaginous predorsals (supraneurals) appeared at 7·7 mm L S and the ossification of dorsal and anal proximal and distal radials began, respectively, at 10·5 mm L S and 11·3 mm L S. Ossified structures in the fins were also classified according to their origin, as being either dermal or endochondral. Finally the chronology of appearance of fin structures in S. aurata was compared with that reported for other Sparidae, Engraulidae and Haemulidae.  相似文献

Silvicultural thinning usually improves the water status of remaining trees in water‐limited forests. We evaluated the usefulness of a dual stable isotope approach (δ13C, δ18O) for comparing the physiological performance of remaining trees between forest stands subjected to two different thinning intensities (moderate versus heavy) in a 60‐year‐old Pinus halepensis Mill. plantation in semiarid southeastern Spain. We measured bulk leaf δ13C and δ18O, foliar elemental concentrations, stem water content, stem water δ18O (δ18Ostem water), tree ring widths and leaf gas exchange rates to assess the influence of forest stand density on tree performance. Remaining trees in low‐density stands (heavily thinned) showed lower leaf δ18O, and higher stomatal conductance (gs), photosynthetic rate and radial growth than those in moderate‐density stands (moderately thinned). By contrast, leaf δ13C, intrinsic water‐use efficiency, foliar elemental concentrations and δ18Ostem water were unaffected by stand density. Lower foliar δ18O in heavily thinned stands reflected higher gs of remaining trees due to decreased inter‐tree competition for water, whereas higher photosynthetic rate was largely attributable to reduced stomatal limitation to CO2 uptake. The dual isotope approach provided insight into the early (12 months) effects of stand density manipulation on the physiological performance of remaining trees.  相似文献
