The aim of this study, was to determine the prevalence of some respiratory symptoms and possible diseases among taxi drivers
and manual workers. This prospective study was performed on 165 Pakistani male drivers, (mean age: 34.5±7.8 years) and 165
Pakistani male manual workers not exposed to dust or fumes, without occupational exposure to driving employed in the Water
and Electricity Department and recruited as controls (mean age: 34.6±7.6 years and mean height and weight 169.8±6.0 cm and
71.9±10.9 kg). The data on chronic respiratory symptoms showed that taxi drivers had higher prevalence of symptoms than manual
workers, being significantly greater for asthma (RR=1.72; 95% CI=1.00–2.88,P=0.037); allergic rhinitis (RR=2.41; 95% CI=1.46–3.94,P=0.0006); dyspnea (RR=2.13; 95% CI=1.22–3.71,P=0.009); and nasal catarrh (RR=2.19; 95% CI=1.22–3.91,P=0.0106). Thirty percent of taxi drivers and 27% of manual workers were smokers, there was no significant differences in the
prevalence of chronic respiratory symptoms between smokers and non-smokers. Lung function parameters in the taxi drivers were
significantly lower than in manual workers group (P<0.0001) except PEF parameter. When comparing the measured mean values of lung function parameters in the drivers among smokers
and nonsmokers, there was no significant differences between smokers and nonsmokers. Also, a comparison of ventilatory capacity
of paired predicted values with measured normal values showed statistically significant differences between predicted and
measured values for taxi drivers and manual workers for FVC, FEV1, FEF25–75 and PEF parameters except for FEV1/FVC test in manual workers. In conclusion, the results of the present study provide evidence regarding effects of such as
carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and gases exposures on taxi drivers and long-term driving, which may be

Length–weight (TL vs WWT) and chelae length–width (ChL vs ChW) relationships were described for juveniles, males and females, and for form I and form II males of Procambarus acutus acutus. The length–weight relationships for juveniles, form I, form II males, and females could be described as: WWT = 5 × 10−3 TL3.09, WWT = 6 × 10−3 TL3.61, WWT = 6 × 10−9 TL3.26, and WWT = 6 × 10−4 TL3.5, respectively. In all forms, growth was allometric (P < 0.05). The ancova test indicated that slopes and intercepts of the length–weight regressions were significantly different between sex and sexual stages. The regressions for chelae length–width relationships for form I and form II males, and females were: ChW = −0.81 + 0.27CL, ChW = −0.33 + 0.25CL, and ChW = −0.82 + 0.32CL, respectively. Although the slope and intercepts of regressions for ChL and ChW were similar for those of form I and form II males, the slopes and intercepts of regressions of females were significantly different from form I and form II males. No statistical difference was observed in mean ChL between form II males and females (P > 0.05), but a significant difference was detected in mean ChL between form I and form II males (P < 0.05) and form I and females (P < 0.05). Form I males had longer ChL than form II males and females. The same trend was observed in mean ChW for form I and form II males, but a significant difference was detected between form II males and females (P < 0.05). Cisplatin (CP) treatment causes the damage in male reproductive system. Carvacrol (CARV) is an antioxidant that is naturally found in some plants. We aimed to investigate the effect of CARV on CP‐induced reproductive toxicity in male rats. Eighteen adult male Sprague–Dawley rats were used. The control group (n = 6) was treated orally with physiological saline (PS) daily for 14 days and a single intraperitoneal (IP) PS injection on day 10. The CP group (n = 6) was administered with daily oral PS for 14 days and a single IP injection of 10 mg/kg CP on day 10. The CARV + CP group (n = 6) was treated with daily 75 mg/kg oral CARV for 14 days and a single IP injection of 10 mg/kg CP on day 10. CP treatment caused the damage on some spermatological parameters (motility, live sperm rate, and abnormal sperm rate), increased the oxidative stress, and induced testicular degeneration and apoptosis. However, CARV treatment mitigates CP‐induced reproductive toxicity. 相似文献

The Mariae species complex, consisting of Aedes mariae, Aedes phoeniciae, and Aedes zammitii, has a limited distribution worldwide. All three species are found in rocky habitats on the coastal areas of Mediterranean countries. Aedes phoeniciae and Ae. zammitii are two members of the Mariae complex that exist in Turkey. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution pattern and genetic structure of Ae. zammitii along the Mediterranean and Aegean regions. For this purpose, larval and adult samples of Ae. zammitii were collected from 19 different rocky habitats along the coastal regions of Antalya, Mu?la, Ayd?n, ?zmir, Bal?kesir, and Çanakkale provinces. DNA isolation was performed primarily from collected samples, and mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase 4 (ND4) gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction. Based on ND4 sequence analyses, 21 haplotypes were detected along the distribution range of the species. Analyses of molecular variance (AMOVA) and spatial analyses of molecular variance (SAMOVA) indicated six groups, and most of the variation was among groups, demonstrating the population structuring at group level. The current COVID-19 outbreak has had a profound influence on public health and daily life. Despite all restrictions and vaccination programs, COVID-19 still can lead to fatality due to a lack of COVID-19-specific treatments. A number of studies have demonstrated the feasibility to develop therapeutics by targeting underlying components of the viral proteome. Here we reviewed recently developed and validated small molecule inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2’s nonstructural proteins. We described the validation level of identified compounds specific for SARS-CoV-2 in the presence of in vitro and in vivo supporting data. The mechanisms of pharmacological activity, as well as approaches for developing improved SARS-CoV-2 NSP inhibitors have been emphasized. 相似文献

Neotricula aperta is the only known intermediate host of Schistosoma mekongi which infects humans in Cambodia and the southern tip of Lao PDR. DNA-sequence data (partial rrnL, i.e., mitochondrial 16S large ribosomal-RNA gene) were obtained for 359 N. aperta snails sampled at 31 localities in Cambodia, Lao PDR and Thailand. A nested clade analysis was performed to detect and evaluate any geographical patterns in the observed variation and to identify genetic subpopulations or clades. Coalescent simulations were used to compare different historical biogeographical hypotheses for N. aperta and S. mekongi. A coalescent based method was also used to provide maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) for effective populations sizes and historical growth and migration rates. Dates were also estimated for phylogenetic events on the gene tree reconstructed for the sampled haplotypes (e.g. the time to most recent common ancestor). N. aperta was found to be divided into two monophyletic clades, a spring-dwelling form of northern Lao PDR and a more widespread larger-river dwelling form of southern Lao PDR and Cambodia; this divergence was dated at 9.3 Ma. The populations with the largest estimated population sizes were found in the Mekong River of Lao PDR and Cambodia; these, together with those of the rivers of eastern Cambodia, appeared to have been the fastest growing populations. Dominant levels of gene-flow (migration) were apparent in a South to North direction, particularly out of seeder populations in the Cambodian Mekong River. The radiation of N. aperta into sub-clades across Cambodia and Lao PDR is dated at around 5 Ma. The findings suggest that historical events, rather than ecology, might best explain the absence of S. mekongi from most of Lao PDR. The public health implications of these findings are discussed, as are pointers for future studies and surveillance. 相似文献

We examined the biologic activity of the rationally designed JAK3 inhibitor, JANEX-1, in several cellular and animal models of inflammation. Notably, JANEX-1 exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activity in each of these preclinical models, including mouse models of peritonitis, colitis, cellulitis, and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Therefore, JANEX-1 may prove useful as a broad-spectrum anti-inflammatory agent. The present study may provide the basis for new and effective treatment as well as prevention programs for inflammatory disorders. 相似文献

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of a 20 l lab scale anaerobic hybrid reactor (AHR) combining sludge blanket in the lower part and filter in the upper part under varying organic loading rates (OLRs) in order to study biodegradation of olive mill effluent (OME). For this purpose, some parameters, such as total phenols, effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solids (SS), volatile fatty acids (VFAs), and pH in the influent and effluent, and removal efficiencies for those parameters (except pH) were continuously monitored throughout the experimental period of 477 days. Eleven different organic loadings between 0.45 and 32 kg COD m−3 day−1 were imposed by either varying influent COD or hydraulic retention time (HRT). The results demonstrated that the AHR reactor could tolerate high influent COD concentrations. Removal efficiencies for the studied pollution parameters were found to be as follows: COD, 50–94%; total phenol, 39–80%; color, 0–54%; and suspended solids, 19–87%. The levels of VFAs in the effluent, which was principally acetate, butyrate, iso-butyrate, and propionate, varied between 10 and 2005 mg l−1 depending upon OLRs. A COD removal efficiency of 90% could be achieved as long as OLR is kept at a level of less than 10 kg COD m−3 day−1. However, a secondary treatment unit for polishing purposes is necessary to comply with receiving media discharge standards. 相似文献

Human ESC-derived mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-conditioned medium (CM) was previously shown to mediate cardioprotection during myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury through large complexes of 50–100 nm. Here we show that these MSCs secreted 50- to 100-nm particles. These particles could be visualized by electron microscopy and were shown to be phospholipid vesicles consisting of cholesterol, sphingomyelin, and phosphatidylcholine. They contained coimmunoprecipitating exosome-associated proteins, e.g., CD81, CD9, and Alix. These particles were purified as a homogeneous population of particles with a hydrodynamic radius of 55–65 nm by size-exclusion fractionation on a HPLC. Together these observations indicated that these particles are exosomes. These purified exosomes reduced infarct size in a mouse model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. Therefore, MSC mediated its cardioprotective paracrine effect by secreting exosomes. This novel role of exosomes highlights a new perspective into intercellular mediation of tissue injury and repair, and engenders novel approaches to the development of biologics for tissue repair. 相似文献
