Objectives
We have examined dynamic changes of histone H3 lysine 9 following trimethylation (H3K9me3), the mRNA expression levels of SUV39H1 and SUV39H2 in bovine oocytes and the role in the development of in vitro fertilization (IVF) pre-implantation embryos.Results
There were strong H3K9me3 signals in germinal vesicle (GV) oocytes but no signals in MII oocytes. H3K9me3 signals were maintained during IVF pre-implantation embryo development. SUV39H1 and SUV39H2 showed significantly higher mRNA expression levels in GV oocytes than MII oocytes (P < 0.01). SUV39H1 showed high mRNA expression level in two-cell embryos, however, SUV39H2 showed high mRNA expression level in four-cell embryos. In other development stage, SUV39H1 and SUV39H2 showed low expression levels.Conclusion
Bovine IVF pre-implantation embryos maintain strong H3K9me3 signals and SUV39H1 and SUV39H2 are highly expressed at the early development stage of pre-implantation embryos.882.

Objectives
To express and characterize a putative α-glucosidase, Pagl, from Pseudoalteromonas sp. K8 obtained via genome mining approach.Results
Pagl was expressed and purified to homogeneity, with a molecular mass of 60 kDa. It was optimally active at pH 8.5 and 30 °C, and showed cold-adapted activity. Pagl exhibited specific activity towards substrates with α-1,4-linkage, with the highest specific activity of 19.4 U/mg for maltose, followed by pNPαG and maltodextrins, suggesting that Pagl belongs to the type II α-glucosidase. Interestingly, the activity of Pagl is significantly enhanced (2.7 times) in the presence of 200 mM glucose.Conclusion
The unique catalytic properties of Pagl make it an attractive candidate for several industrial applications.883.

A novel bacterium, strain SZ28, identified as Acinetobacter sp., showed anaerobic denitrification ability using Mn(II) as the electron donor. Nitrate-nitrogen concentration decreased from nearly 16.52–mg L?1 to 4.4–mg L?1, without accumulation of nitrite as an intermediate, with a maximum of 0.063–mg NO3?-N L?1 h?1, reaching a peak of 0.085–mg NO3?-N L?1 h?1 in sodium acetate. The nitrate removal rate reached 0.067–mg NO3?-N L?1 h?1, 0.059–mg NO3?-N L?1 h?1, and 0.078 mg NO3?-N L?1 h?1 using Mn(II), S(II), and Fe(II) as electron donors, respectively. Most environmental perturbations have a direct or indirect deleterious impact on photosynthesis, and, in consequence, the overall energy status of the cell. Despite our increased understanding of convergent energy and stress signals, the connections between photosynthesis, energy and stress signals through putative common nodes are still unclear. Here we identified an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized adenine nucleotide transporter1 (ER-ANT1), whose deficiency causes seedling lethality in air but viable under high CO2, exhibiting the typical photorespiratory phenotype. Metabolic analysis suggested that depletion of ER-ANT1 resulted in circadian rhythm disorders in sucrose synthesis and induced sucrose signaling pathways, indicating that the ER is involved in the regulation of vital energy metabolism in plants. In addition, the defect of ER-ANT1 triggers ER stress and activates the unfolded protein response in plant cells, suggesting ER stress and photorespiration are closely linked. These findings provide an important evidence for a key role of ER-localized ER-ANT1 in convergent energy and stress signals in rice.
