Isoamylases in blood donors

Summary Sera of 1,000 blood donors were tested for various combinations of salivary and pancreatic amylase isoenzymes and the frequency of their occurrence was determined in the series mentioned. Five combinations of isoamylases were found. A combination of 1 salivary and 1 pancreatic amylase was found most frequently (89.5%), the frequency of the other four combinations was relatively low (0.2–5.1%).Hereditary character of amylase isoenzymes was confirmed in a series of 36 families.     

Antibacterially active substances

Synthesis of two hydroxy-derivatives of nalidixic acid as a result of microbial transformation was demonstrated in certain species of the genusAspergillus. Aspergillus alliaceus produced 7-hydroxy-nalidixic acid andAspergillus niger 6-hydroxy-nalidixic acid. It was demonstrated that the antibacterial activity of both hydroxy-derivatives (tested inEscherichia coli) was lower than that of the initial nalidixis acid.

Es werden 28 Arten von lichenisierten Fungi (Flechten) mit kritischen taxonomischen Hinweisen oder Ergänzungen zu den in der Literatur vorhandenen Beschreibungen, oft mit chorologischen Bemerkungen und Angaben über die ökologischen Verhältnisse ihrer Standorte angeführt, von denen die nachgenannten Arten und Namenskombinationen neu sind:Verrucaria scabra Vězda sp. n.,Geisleria xylophila Vězda sp. n.,Toninia steineri Poelt etVězda sp. n.,Pachyascus byssaceus (Vězda) Vězda comb. n. undMicarea gomphillacea (Nyl.) Heterogeneous production of laccase by mycelium of white-rot fungi

Mycelium of white-rot fungi secretes laccase into the medium. It was found by cultivation on malt-agar plates that the mycelium does not produce laccase equally in all its parts. The youngest hyphae at the margins of the colony represent usually the maximum producers, whereas older hyphae produce less or none at all. An exception here isCollybia velutipes which is the weakest producer of laccase of all the fungi studied and where only the older hyphae begin to secrete it. Manometric estimation of laccase showed that maximum specific activity of laccase is achieved at the boundary between the phases of initial and linear growth and i₁₁ some cases during the first half of linear growth. Ageing of the mycelium characterized by certain changes in its metabolism is reflected in changes of enzyme production by fungal hypha of different age.
